| stone_dog05-05-04, 05:41 PM | Damn you. Just when I have to go to work. Oh you will pay! I mean... LOOK at this thing! (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111158.html) Grumbles! |
| Singing Urgosh05-05-04, 06:28 PM | Hot Damn!! This is some of the best concept art I have ever seen for anything! I am hoping that soem of this art makes it into the Ebberon CS or future supplimentals as...oh.. the menace of those shadow elves is almost palpable. Takasi- great work, you should recieve a medal or something. Infact, you can recieve the "Medal of Magnanimous Praise ". Place it in your sig until you find another worthy recipiant. So Hellcow, can we expect any info on these Shadow Elves or do we have to wait another month and a bit? :( Stay sane |
| Brastan05-05-04, 06:55 PM | Most of this looks like it should be in the Source book not concept sketches for a game. Man they look good. I particularly like the town. Not the best picture of the lot but I can't draw towns so this will help me set up some adventures. :) |
| JohnnyONeal05-05-04, 07:14 PM | Wow! Great find, Takasi! That's some gorgeous art. I'm really interested to see how closely this concept art matches the "look" of Eberron that will be established in the Campaign Setting book. For example, the Thrane nights seem to be blue-and-yellow themed (and, interestingly enough, eagle themed). Is this just for the RTS, or does it reflect actual state colors of Thrane? Anyway, great images. They've got me wondering more and more about the role the drow play. It's also neat to see (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111172.html) just how big the warforged titan is. More comments when I have more time! |
| Takasi05-05-04, 07:22 PM | Funny, did anyone else notice that originally there were 4 pages and now only 3? ALL of the in game footage has disappeared. Looked pretty neat. There were giant armored turtles led by lizardfolk, and in another huge wasps came out of a giant dome ascending on some type of goblinoid race I think. Maybe they were supposed to wait for E3 before they showed those... |
| deganawida05-05-04, 07:28 PM | Well, that answers my question on how "standard" weapons and armor look in Eberron. Much appreciated, Takasi! |
| stone_dog05-05-04, 08:16 PM | HEY! Shemov! Look over here! (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111152.html) Thrane horses! |
| Doppleganger05-05-04, 08:28 PM | Wowza! Nice. Takasi, what other things do you remember seeing in the removed footage pics? :D |
| Takasi05-05-04, 08:32 PM | Can't remember much else. A few scenes with lizardfolk battling a beholder. Oo, there was another with goblinoids marching in the SNOW! I wish I would have saved the pics; I never would have guessed that they'd disappear like that... |
| Witchdoctor05-05-04, 09:33 PM | It is amazing how some cool concept art can get you hooked. If what comes to mind from looking at these shots is remotely how Eberron is presented in the CS, I will be so sold on this setting. I cannot wait 'til June. |

Anyway, great images. They've got me wondering more and more about the role the drow play. I think those are couatl, not eagles. I'm guessing a lot of the character models were adapted significantly for the video game. This stuff looks more like a Warcraft knock-off than anything we've seen so far of Eberron. |
| TwinBahamut05-06-04, 12:24 AM | A lot of that looked really cool. I am now much more interested in both some aspects of the Eberron setting, and new RTS game. Some favorites of mine and some comments: The pic of the guy flying inside the energy coatl was awesome, and is definetly connected to the Silver Flame. After all, wasn't the Flame created as a weapon by the Coatl? If this is a Eberron PrC or something, I need to see the stats. That Beholder is the best beholder ever. Period. Am I sensing a Drow Lich Queen? The armor on the Thrane Knights is really impressive. Some stuff in there looks very psionic in nature. Overall, I like this a lot. Too bad I couldn't see any screenshots. :( |
| Raster05-06-04, 01:02 AM | For some reason, I get the idea that all the characters in black and purple with purple gems on or around them are from another plane....but I could be wrong... |
| Andre La Roche05-06-04, 01:05 AM | Some of the Thranian stuff looks more phoenix-based than couatl influenced given the obvious avian heads. |
| stone_dog05-06-04, 02:48 AM | Originally posted by Raster For some reason, I get the idea that all the characters in black and purple with purple gems on or around them are from another plane....but I could be wrong... Possibly, but they are also labeled Drow in some places. And if those are drow then Lolth is looking less and less scary by the moment. This one (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111145.html)though is definatly from Xoriat in some way... a freak even among illithids. |
| Hellcow05-06-04, 02:57 AM | Originally posted by Singing Urgosh So Hellcow, can we expect any info on these Shadow Elves or do we have to wait another month and a bit? :( That's entirely in Liquid's hands, and you may have to wait far longer than a month, since the game doesn't come out until 2005. The shadow elves have an interesting place in the history of Eberron, but there are solid reasons why they don't belong in the CSB. I certainly hope that they (and other aspects of the RTS) will get translated for use in D20, whether in the appropriate sourcebook or as an online enhancement; there's a lot of great ideas in the RTS storyline. I'll also note that while the Silver Flame plays a significant role on the human side and you do have Knights of Thrane, it's not as simple as saying "The human forces are all from Thrane." I'm going to wait to say more until I see what is released at E3... |

Cheers |

| JohnnyONeal05-07-04, 09:43 AM | The shadow elves have an interesting place in the history of Eberron, but there are solid reasons why they don't belong in the CSB.We know that dark elves are going to be a part of Eberron, though not one that you'll spend a lot of time on in the Campaign Setting book. Given that stats for the drow will be what they've always been, and their stats don't include shadow powers, what's the relationship between the drow and shadow elves? Are they separate races, or are shadow elves simply dark elves with a new "template" attached? It isn't in the galleries, but the ingame footage is still visible if you manually edit the number at the end of the html page.I didn't find any videos, but I found a bunch of screenshots. In addition to the image PS linked to, I found another beholder shot (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111185.html), a town shot (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111148.html), lizardmen in the snow (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111184.html), lizardmen in a temple (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111175.html), triumphant turtles (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111173.html), turtles vs. elves (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111170.html), scary insect things (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/680/680934/img_2111151.html), and knights crossing a bridge (http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/511/511293/dungeons-dragons-untitled-rts-200405040400093.jpg). I never encountered a big version of this shot (http://media.ign.com/thumb/820/820457/dungeons-dragons-untitled-rts-200405040359265_thumb.jpg). Hey Keith, can you tell us what those turtle things are, and/or where they're from? Are those lizardmen they're hanging out with? I didn't realize lizardment were a big part of Eberron. |
| JohnnyONeal05-11-04, 05:08 PM | Bummer! The article (Tiller Timber (an architect or forester)) is still up, but all the pictures have been stripped from it, and the media is nowhere to be found. Did anyone download some of that fine concept art while it lasted? PS: Oh Hellcow, don't have even the most cryptic of answers to some of the questions posed in this thread? :) |
| Mad Miso05-11-04, 08:43 PM | There are few things as frustrating in life as hearing people rave about an experience that you have missed, forever, never to be seen again. *goes to the corner to pout* |
| Hellcow05-12-04, 05:22 PM | Originally posted by JohnnyONeal Oh Hellcow, don't have even the most cryptic of answers to some of the questions posed in this thread? :) Hey, I'm traveling *and* have a busted modem. Give a cow a break... However, to be brief: The reason some of those pictures said "drow" was because at the very begining, Liquid was thinking about using the drow. However, there are certain aspects of the Eberron drow that didn't fit the story, , so we talked about it and found that the shadow elves were a better match. The relationship between the shadow elves and the drow is basically the same as that between the drow and the Valenar. All elven cultures come from Xen'drik, and have split and developed in different directions from that starting point. The CSB does not include any direct information on the shadow elves, but it may be something you see in the future (especially if people enjoy the RTS). Just out of curiosity, did Dragon 320 say anything about the dragonmark possessed by the elf houses? |
| Stormtalon05-12-04, 07:32 PM | Originally posted by Hellcow Just out of curiosity, did Dragon 320 say anything about the dragonmark possessed by the elf houses? Only houses given any detail were Cannith, Tharashk, Jorasco & Lyrandar -- none of those were what I'd call a "Elf House." The other houses were mentioned only by name. We now return to our previously scheduled RTS thread.... Stormtalon |
