The Spellcasting Sorcerer 05-05-04, 11:19 AM	Although I love the D&D 3.5 rules, lately, I'd found that I'd been getting so tired of the existing campaign settings: Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, etc. So I sold off all of the world-specific books I have. I was about to sell all of my generic D&D products as well (I tried my hand at crafting my own campaign settings, but nothing ever took and besides that, all of the people I played with moved off to college/job/opprtunities), until I heard about the new Eberron campaign setting coming out. I thought, "Finally! A brand-new world that doesn't have its origins in the past editions of D&D, and that doesn't have a whole backstory in out-of-print novels! I can watch this world grow and change starting right from the beginning of its entrance into the D&D rules." All of the previews on the Wizards website and the Dragon mags has only whetted my appetite even more. Keith Baker/Hellcow, I salute you.

It's also one of the things that drew me to Dark Sun. I really don't have anything agains the Realms or DragonLance, I just don't want to be hassled over whether I'm doing someting by the cannon fiction or not.

I just don't want to get flak from a player when I put a village on a different side of a river than Tracy Hickman did. Sure, most players don't do stuff like that, but sooner or later you get the rabid fan. If I'm going to read that many books, I'll do it for fun, not as a history assignment for a D&D game.

Wait a minute, since I too will be buying the Eberron Campaign Setting and I already have Dragonlance running that means double research time(Reading novels.) for me. :mymy: ~~~
Brastan 05-05-04, 07:27 PM	Ya but if us DM's start our stuff now (or when the book comes out) the players will look to us for Eberron stuff not the novels. They'll trust us and stick to our campaigns. Plus if the novel writes can keep clear of the main setting areas it every one will benefit. In DL you can't go anywhere in without bumping into novels. My brother is one of those rabid fans and he should be the one DMing that setting for my group. I never had a setting that I could really claim as mine(not as my work, but as my setting to run). All of my other settings died very quite deaths. Plus I never liked any of them.
LordofIllusions 05-05-04, 07:34 PM	LoL! In any campaign you can choose to go along with canon or ignore it. Dragonlance has novels and Eberron will have novels as well. If your players dictate to you how to run your campaign then I would suggest getting rid of those players because they are going to cause problems in DL, FR, Eberron, or whatever campaign you run because they are know it alls and have no respect for you as a DM. Each DM has his own style and if a player does not like that style he can get up from that DM's table. ~~~
Brastan 05-05-04, 07:50 PM	Ah. Its not that. It's just that my friend get confused easily if things are not were there expecting them. No, I've had some players I had to uh... Kick out. Still it would be nice if they were like the Birthright novels. They didn't really get into the setting to much. But save DnD for my group Eberron will (oh man I loosing it again :uh-huh:). Where's that Crazy forum :D.

Pallis 07-04-04, 02:12 PM	I started out with the old Mystara setting and the series of Gazeteers. Anyone remember the Grand Duchy of Karameikos? Threshold?..aah, happy days. And they've just got better with the addition of Eberron. I'm having a great time in this place, setting things up for the start of a campaign in Khorvaire this Autumn. Out of the campaign worlds, I'll run one in Eberron and one in the Forgotten Realms...but I can already see that the two will be wildly different in tone and character. And that's where the brilliance of Eberron lies. Long may it continue to do so. :D
