After DMing a DarkSun campaign for over 3 years (from 3rd to 16th level), I'm starting an Eberron campaign tonight, with four previous players and one new player to D&D. None of my players have ever played a 1st level character before, so I'm looking forward to a low-powered campaign. I definately have a few players that are psyched about Eberron. We're making PCs tonight and starting the Forgotten Forge adventure. I'm looking forward to the change in campaign. My goal is to find Eberron's style and bring it forth in all the adventures. As far as I know, the PCs will be a kalashtar bard (multi-class with psion later on), changeling rogue, elf druid, and half-orc monk. The fifth player is still undecided.

Sounds cool.

I'd recommend not using the Eberron Adventure path though, cause frankly I don't like those adventures (Shadows of the Last War, Grasp of the Emerald Claw and Whisper of the Vampires Blade).

I use them/ideas from them liberally mixed with adventures from Dragon and ideas of my own design.

Right now, we're kind of in the middle of WotVB and Fallen Angel all sort of mixed together.

my group had a good time with the 3 eberron adventures, and we are just finishing up the grasp of the emerald claw. we started at first level and will finish up as 9th level. I had to max hit points on almost every monster, just to keep pace with two warforged in the group (1 fighter, 1 monk). the warforged don't get sick, sleep, breathe, eat, so they make it challenging for the DM. Especially since the adventures do not give many chances to damage them. I had to add lots of things to keep them in check, and you can forget about having creatures sneak up on them during the night to steal!!! the first adventure is a good opening to the world of eberron, and gives you a lot of researching to do because you wander through a lot of the countryside. the second adventure is fun, but seems to be one loooonnnnnggg chase. the third looked the most conventional, and we had the most fun with it. the first two didn't seem very challenging, but the third was!!!

later.

ps. when we started the forgotten forge, i wasn't the DM, and i was a dwarven barbarian who got caught on fire, eaten by bugs, caught filth fever, was shocked, stabbed, and covered by acid!!! My dude's name was changed to damage sponge. it was very cool, and action points kept him alive...

I thought that Dark Sun campaigns were supposed to start at 4th level. :P Welcome to Eberron, enjoy your stay. Just try not to pester the rakshasa.

I'm going to have to agree that the published adventures aren't the best. The Forgotten Forge, while good for getting a feel, is a bit railroady. Next one takes them into the Mournlands WAY too soon, and forgets that healing doesn't work there, which makes it extremely deadly. Whispers of the Vampires Blade is pretty railroady, potentially with a TPK, and any group that likes to mess with things can potentially derail the entire thing pretty early on.

They're still good for ideas, but they're not the best made modules ever written.

My group ended the vampires blade on the airship which is halfway thru. i ended up skipping the finale and used the railroad on the trip home. the first adventure was ez to stay on course, but the mournland is deadly!!!. of course, my group wandered into Rose Quarry and fought the whole group of baddies to the death and miraculously they won. I knew then that action points were incredible and my half-warforged group were truly eberron style heroes.

what i am trying to do is make them famous heroes. when they get back to sharn, i have been having people recognize them, glom onto their fame, give them free meals etc. Anyone have any original ideas on this kind of notoriety?

Anyone have any original ideas on this kind of notoriety? One word. Paparazzi.
Gawd I'd love to have the paparazzi flocking all over my Karnnathi soldier character, just so he could haul off and beat the living :censored: out of the :censored: little :censored:s.

Note, if I ever get famous enough to have the paparazzi hounding me, I plan on making a public announcement at the start. That any pap that gets in my face is going to get the holy hell beat out of him, and I am not going to settle out of court for it. Heck, I'm famous, I'll do a week in minimum security jail for it, then come back out, and beat the snot out of the next one that tries it.

And I don't mean just a black eye, I mean emergency room intensive care with a ventilator. Your Eberron paparazzi might not be so lucky :D

Oh, I definately will be using premade adventures, including The Speaker in Dreams tweeked for Eberron. All my DarkSun adventures were either my own or 2nd Edition converted over to 3rd edition, which is almost as much work as making up my own. With a full-time job, a new baby, and my beer and wine making obsession, I won't have the ambission or energy to spend 10 hours working on an adventure between game sessions. I'll just make a few changes to fit my style.
