Eberron Story Submission [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-12-04, 08:47 AM I am going to submit my idea but I was wondering a few things. Firstly is it ok to create a name for a town in the Eberron world? And can major characters specified by the creator be used in the submission?

Oh and another question. If my idea is rejected can I use the idea and the names I come up with for other writings of mine?

If so, I don't see any harm in comming up with your own names for new towns. However, it would be alittle inconistant and confusing if you called the city of Sharn by anyother name without a very good reason.

As for any major characters, I doubt it. Wizards did a competition awhile ago to see which fan would write a forgoten realms novel. It was specifically said that certain characters could not be used. On the other hand, this isn't FR, so break the rules! Defy! Defy!

If your idea is rejected, come up with other names. Names in this genre should be a representation of what it stands for. Even if the name is tricksy and exists only to trick foolish adventurers. For example: The Happy Swamp of Non-Doom.

Yes. Many of the wonderful details in shared worlds come from its writers, not just its creator.

I submitted to Maiden of Pain (the contest to which Lily_Knight refers). The rules sheet for that contest specified both certain types of characters and specific NPC's to avoid. However, it also said that use of other other NPC's was fine, just so long as they weren't permanently altered (don't get their arm chopped off, don't make them multiclass, etc.).

The winner (http://www.kameronmf.com/) of that contest used some NPC's himself, as I recall.

The submission agreement that you will be required to sign will explain this all very well.
