Hello,

I was reading the news on KB’s web site and I stumbled on that:

“In the world of Eberron, I'm gearing up to start work on another Top Secret Sourcebook. In fact, it's so Top Secret that even I only know the basic overview! However, it's a subject I'm very excited about, and I look forward to getting started.”

What could excite so much our beloved author?

- A book of Daëlkyrs (or book of the planes)?
- An Eberron mega-adventure (save the Khorvaire from another war, etc.)?
- Secrets of the mourning land?
- Something else?

;)

GOBLINS!!!!

We know Keith loves the little (and not so little) buggers just as much, if not more, than we do.

A book on the "monsters" nations?
Droam, Dargun, the shadow marches and the demon wastes.
Well, technically the Wastes are not a nation, maybe q'barra (with the lizardmen) could fit better the bill if that is the case.

BTW, when will be out "dragonmarked"? It should be almost ready by now, shouldn't it.

The Shadow Marches isn't a nation either, and neither is Droaam if you believe the Treaty of Thronehold. :)

Dragonmarked will be out in November.

As for the topic...this book of monstrous nations idea is one I would most look forward to. Otherwise, since Keith isn't technically allowed to disclose info about any unreleased and particularly any unannounced book, it could be either of the Last War or Dragons of Eberron sourcebooks.

Let it be the 'Wild Lands of Khorvaire' sourcebook that we all want...

;)

And after that, someone at Wizards please comission Keith to write The Last War sourcebook. That'd be cool...

Perhaps it's a sourcebook for the Ring of Siberys or the Underworld of Khyber.

Or a book on villains and villainous organizations.

Although I would bet on some sort of medium-to-mega-sized adventure, like a series of connected adventures that take PC's from level 4 to level 12.

But seriously, if Keith is writing it it'll be great.

Note the capitalization of "Top Secret." One of the earliest RPGs produced by TSR (after D&D) was "Top Secret." It was an espionage RPG, set in the modern world.

So, I'll suggest that a "Top Secret" Eberron sourcebook would be a book on spies and espionage in the Eberron campaign. It would have details on House Phiarlan, the Dark Lanterns, and the various spy organizations in Eberron. It would have suggestions for running an noir espionage campaign set in Eberron, and perhaps contain a few scenarios of various sizes (ala the Expedition to Castle Ravenloft book).

Nothing in Eberron is more secretive than the activities of the Dragons.

PLEASE LET IT BE: Secrets of Argonessen!!!

(And of course, any of the "Secrets of..." series counts as top secret! )

Oh, I would dearly love it if this Top Secret project was on the Goblinoids. However, let's narrow the field.

It's Not:
Dragonmarked
Exploration
Faith's/Deities
Five Nations
Magic
Sarlona
Sharn
Xen'Drik

So, what does this leave us with? Well, a lot, really. However, I have a few ideas about what it is most likely to be about.

Goblinoids of Eberron
It's well known that Keith has a fondness for the goblinoids, which would lend weight to this option. Considering that they have thier own nation and were some of the first races, I'd consider this to be a strong contender.
DM's Odds: 3 gets you 5.

The Last War
While this has been covered briefly in a few narrative sources, we have precious little game material on this subject. It is a major facet of the campaign world, so again, the odds are good.
DM's Odds: 2 gets you 3.

Wilds of Eberron
This book would be similar in style to the Five Nations, only it would cover the more wild places, such as the Eldeen Reaches, Droaam, Darguun, Q'Barra, and other such areas. Another strong possibility, but one that has been covered in bits in pieces in other books.
DM's Odds: 1 gets you 10.

Secrets of Argonessen
Another continent that has yet to really get any coverage at all. While it is vastly underwritten, it's also not all that applicable to a lot of games. Strong potential, but not one I could see Keith getting very excited about.
DM's Odds: 1 gets you 20.

So, those are the odds from this DM. Anyone taking bets? *grin*

One possibily could be a book about khyber, there is not much information about Eberron's "Underdark", we just know there are dealkyrs, ilithids and all the other but no idead how it relly is down there.

Just because Keith loves them.

Nevertheless, Secrets of Khyber is a serious contender too.

I was under the impression that there's going to be a "Dragons of Eberron"-type book coming out that had some to do with Argonessen but more to do with incorporating dragons into any campaign. Then there is a Last War book coming out as well. Thus this book Keith mentions is almost certainly not one of those. I'm betting it's about the other nations of Khorvaire. Or maybe a "Villains of Eberron" book.

I'm hoping for one or more of the following:

Dragons of Eberron
Frontiers of Khorvaire (or multiple regional books for the Khorvaire, similar to the Forgotten Realms' Shining South, Unapproachable East, Silver Marches, Serpent Kingdoms, etc.)
Secrets of Khyber (parallel to Underdark for Forgotten Realms)
Lost Empire of the Dhakanni (although I could see that as being a subsection of a more general book)

The "Top Secret" book is Forges of War, coming out in the middle of this year. It's the book about pieces and parts of the Last War, and includes information about the Day of Mourning.

It's Top Secret because it's one of the biggest secrets in Eberron currently. They will reveal the answer along with the progression in the timeline, coinciding with an alignment of the plane of Dolruhh.

I don't know if I want Argonnessen detailed, truthfully. I'd prefer a book that elaborates on the role of dragons in Eberron with a few specific dragons detailed as well as some information about the Seren and the dragons that don't live in Argonnessen. For example, the dragons that protect Adar probably have very little to do with the draconic prophecy.

According to Keith, this is more likely the type of book we should be expecting, not Secrets of Argonnessen per se.

No, I don't mean a book that details their history. I was referring to something parallel to Forgotten Realms Lost Empires of Faerun, which has information about exploring the ruins of such empires. While Xen'drik has similar ruins, Khorvaire has its own ancient remnants of empires long gone. We even get a sneak peak at one such location in Whispers of the Vampire's Blade.

Imagine a portfolio of such locations set across Khorvaire and character options associated with exploring such locations, maybe even some legacy items per Weapons of Legacy.

Along that same vein, similar information about Q'barra, the Shadow Marches, the Demon Wastes, etc. would all be warranted as well, which is why I suggested it might be a subsection in another book.

If you mean the Mourning with "the biggest secret", you're wrong. It was said repeatedly that there never will be given an official explanation of the mourning (though further theses to its reason may appear). This is for every DM to decide.

If WotC publishes *ANY* official cause of the Mourning, I will boycott them.

No empty threats, just plain simple truth. I will never buy another WotC D&D book, Eberron book, or anything else they produce ever again. I will take the Eberron material I have, and port it over as a fantasy setting for Mutants & Masterminds, and not look back.

Dead serious here people.

Combine that with what I would percieve as them completely selling out the setting's integrity for a few more $, and I would honestly have no reason to stick with the company.

There are only so many times they can tell me one thing then turn around and do the exact opposite before I say enough is enough.

Geez, Edy. It's just a game.:mymy:Its a business. WotC is providing a product and/or service, and I am the consumer. The company says that it intends to provide product and/or service X to the consumer. It then turns around and sends out product and/or service Y.

The company says that it's business practices are going to be A, which generates good will while it increases their customer base and brand loyalty. They then change their business practice to B which, had it been announced originally, would not have been good for business, and then rely on the false pretenses of their original statement in order to garner sales.

The only way for a consumer to speak out against what they consider disreputable business practices is to not buy the goods and/or services provided by the company.

I have been lied to by WotC twice now. Not just mislead, but outright LIED to. I will not do business with a company that can't keep their promises. They've got 2 strikes, and if they end up lying to me again, thats 3 strikes, and they're out.

We already covered this ground starting with post #58 in this thread.

I hope its not Dragons of Eberron. I couldn't think of a topic I care less about.

Eberron dragons are already good as they exist entirely as a deus ex machina. I don't need details.

That's obviously not it lads. Dragons of eberron has been on the radar for ages.

But let's not forget that Keith's soft spot is for the...

Underwater Worlds of Eberron!

:coolcthul

He often said in interviews or on the Boards that he was a bit bummed that this part had been left out of the original ECS and that he hoped this would come back as an optional book or supplement.

I'd bet good money that his secret project is a source book on the underwater cultures and civilizations of Eberron...

It's not, but that's certainly a book I'd love to work on.

Bummer. It's a book I'd love to read, as well.

OK, now that WotC has released their full 2007 catalog on its web site, I don't see any Eberron books other than what we've already known about. There does seem to be a gap in Eberron releases in August between Forge of War and Dragons of Eberron. However, it might be withheld for now considering there is only one adventure/accessory being published that month. I would find it extremely odd for WotC to only have one major release in any given month. Perhaps that is where our Top Secret Eberron project resides?

Now that it's been officially announced by WotC, I can confirm that Dragons of Eberron is the formerly top secret project. While it had been mentioned at GenCon and then popped up on Amazon, I wasn't allowed to officially confirm its existence until it appeared on the WotC site.

And that was sort of anti-climatic...

Here we had a thread filled with all sorts of speculation and then it turns out we already knew about it. Ironic, don't you think?

I bet somebody will come here claiming you're playing mindgames Keith :P

Hey, I still want to do the "Top Secret" (Intrigue) book. Just happens THIS top secret project was dragons.

It's just like an Eberron adventure. You're told something is top secret, you're given the answer but you say that it's too obvious to be right and then BAM! It turns out to be the answer all along.

And all you do is say "WHY DIDN'T I SEE THAT SOONER!"

I know it's asking much, but could you possibly offer any info on potential upcoming material concerning Darguun/Droaam/Dhakaan/monstrous races of Eberron, Mr. Baker (if you even have such projects in mind, that is)?

I'm afraid not, FK. First off, at best all I could say is "I'm working on another top secret project"; I'm not authorized to discuss anything that hasn't been officially announced. Second, I'm not actually involved in deciding what comes out for Eberron next - so I don't actually know what the possibilities are. Of course, if you start a "WE WANT A DARGUUN/DROAAM/DHAKAAN BOOK!" petition and let me know where to find it, I can at least point it out to the people who DO make these decisions. What I will say is that I'd love to work on such a book, as all three subjects are things near to my heart and which I feel haven't been explored much yet.

Don't hold your breath (unless, of course, you're underwater...), I'm afraid. I honestly don't know what's planned for the future, but I don't think it's on the short list.

Is there any chance that you could write a Dragonshard - or, hey, a Dragonmark for Dragon - on the subject? :)

I too would love to see the Dragonshards return, they were wonderful, and I gleaned so much from them!

I think I remember Keith saying that he had a whole bunch of dragonshards ready to go, and that WotC just wasn't putting them up for some reason.
