I can picture PC-style Adventurers living in a sort of Jianghu, a kind of "subworld" or "underworld" of fighters, gangs, secret societies and the like, co-existing with polite society. And with all the crazy abilities possible in D&D, I can see mid-to-high level characters achieving the stunts in Wuxia movies.. |

Two things that are directly inspired by wuxia and similar Asian literary genres are the Monk class and certain aspects of the Soulknife and Psychic Warrior, which is why the kalashtar are a great race to feature in a wuxia-inspired campaign (not to make too much of the much-debated, tenuous "Sarlona/Asia" connection, of course). The mystical air of the kalashtar and their tendency to be less dependent on magic gadgets and more on personal abilities fits well with the wuxia tone, compared to the grittier, more pragmatic, and more techy bent of a "standard" Eberron campaign. The kalashtar fit well with the Jianghu idea of a secret war being fought under the noses of ordinary people, complete with important personalities and well-known battles among the underworld fighters that the ordinary folk know almost nothing about. |
