| JiCi05-16-07, 01:39 PM | Putting a surrounding music to describe the mood of a place is becoming quite popular these days thanks to computers, CDs and MP3s players. What musical theme would you put for different Eberron locations and events ? I would like some suggestions. It can be from anything: movies, TV series, music groups, video games, name it. For example, what theme would suit best Sharn, the Xen'Drik jungles, the Race of Eight Winds, Sarlona overland exploration, a battle abord the Lightning Rail, etc ? (This thread can be used as ideas for different D&D situations) Thanks in advance JiCi |

| mhacdebhandia05-16-07, 08:07 PM | My Eberron soundtrack has the music from Battlestar Galactica, Carnivāle, Firefly, and Rome on it. |
| mahavira05-16-07, 11:06 PM | I always use Rammstein for encounters involving the Emerald Claw. |
| bad_phil05-16-07, 11:18 PM | I got the sharn soundtrack, but I got my own music playlist on my mp3 player. Some songs are from God of war, Rogue Galaxy, Devil may cry, FF advent children, Chono trigger, Xenogears, 300, Castlevania, Guilty gear, Lord of the rings, Pirates of the carribeans,Conan.....and so on. |
| mhacdebhandia05-17-07, 12:25 AM | I'm sick of hearing about The Lord of the Rings in connection with Eberron! :P |
| From_Khyber05-17-07, 07:24 AM | During gamesessions, I make use of instrumental music, mostly because this seems to be most efficient when trying to create an atmospheric mood (that fits a certain in-game situation). I tend to lean towards ambient music, that makes use of long, monotomous passages, that ultimately turn out as soundsscapes (you easily become used to this kind of music, and therefore have no difficulties in relating it to events in your campaign, without being distracted). Midnight Syndicate's Dungeons and Dragons: Official Roleplaying Soundtrack is my absolute favourite. The albums is filled with a wide variety of different track, that easily can be adapted into any in-game situation, whether it's a quick brawl in the streets of Sharn, or a longlasting travel over the vast, barren stretches of Droaam. I find this album extremely suitable for an Eberron campaign, regardless of the in-game location, and I warmly recommend this masterpiece ;) |
| AkumaDaimyo05-17-07, 11:22 PM | Yeah I was wondering about any decent Intrusmental pieces/ Modern music with vocals in it for a D&D game doesn't fit and ruins the mood for me. I have Shards of Eberron and I like that just fine. Is there anything else like that around? Someone mentioned Lord of the Rings. You know I think the Pirates of the Carribean Soundtrack works well for Swashbuckling style action scences and some of the darker pieces for moments of dread, like the Kraken music. But what other Instrumental music works? |
| NthDegree25605-18-07, 11:10 AM | I like to use jazzy, high-energy pieces, like from Cowboy Bebop, during the more over-the-top action sequences - such as a battle on top of a lightning rail. |
| AkumaDaimyo05-18-07, 10:28 PM | That wouldn't work for me. I think a more swashbuckling type of music would work for those but thats good that you have music that works for you. I'm trying to find music that fits Eberron to a T, as Keith Baker describes it. |
| Lanodantheon05-19-07, 10:51 PM | The Shards of Eberron are good for thinking of ideas for Eberron, but at the gaming table it has no Impact. My favorite Music to play for Eberron is consequently the same CD that goes to all of R.A.Salvatore's Drizzt books(At least for me): Gladiator. That movie for me is also great for getting in the milieu of D&D. Historical accuracy is not an issue, watching stylized depictions of the distant past puts you in the world of D&D, just without the magic. Strangly, a while ago I said to myself that my theme for Sharn was Lift by Poets of the Fall. Maybe it's because the rhythms make me think of high paced action and Characters doing stupid things just as the Other PC's bust down the door. Maybe it's because of the Chorus, "You Lift my spirit, take me higher, Make me fly...." heard just as I think of PC's jumping into the bottomless abyss of Sharn's empty space between towers. :D Vangelis' Score for Bladerunner is also good because it's rather quiet and soft. It's so atmospheric you forget it's playing |

| Jonasty05-21-07, 01:41 PM | There is an amazing band/group that works well for everything. They have a number of CD's out, each of which is perfect for gaming as each CD gives off a certain mood. The group is called Nox Arcana (the name should tell you enough right there :) ). A DM ran us through the new Ravenloft which was harrowing enough but then played 2 of their albums in the background, Transylvania (appropriate) and Necronomicon. Heck, Necronomicon states right on the CD jacket that the music is inspired by the Cthullu mythos. And while this haunting stuff is great for Ravenloft and somewhat useful for Eberron, their newest CD Blood of the Dragon, is straight out of Conan as far as epic tracks of mighty battles etc. Check them out if you need GREAT gaming music. |
