I think I may have seen one of these guys in the parade once or twice. Not sure though. But geez, if you guys were there last year, did you see the Halo Marines? Good GOD those were incredible!

08-27-05, 09:22 PM Bah. My Internship with the Department of Army snuffed all leave until Christmas.

Sadly, when I finally get to my Permanent Duty Station as a civillian Logistics Management Specialist, I'll be closer to GenCon than I will be to Dragon*Con, because Uncle Sam is going to ship me off to Detroit for 3 years.

Dragon is great though. Its the only con I've been too that stands a chance of a story like the one I'm about to tell.

My family has gone to Dragon for MANY years, and we know the guys that run it pretty well, and we do a lot of panels. In return, we get access to the Green Room (the good green room, the VIP lounge).

I was sitting up there, drinking some OJ and having some finger food while I took a breather. Guy comes up, we strike up a conversation about what movies we like, what we thought was cool, etc. After about a half hour, he excuses himself just as the rest of my group comes in.

They go "Do you know who you were just talking to?"
"No, nice guy though."
"That was Tom Savini."

Thats right, I spent half an hour doing movie talk with Tom Savini, the splatter king. I was just doing that no-talk-point-back-and-forth-wha? thing when I found out.

08-28-05, 06:26 PM i was there for a day, i managed to meet one of my players there (she and her dad get four day passes for free cause they "know people"), and i met one of my... wierder... friends arguing how Pokemon was morbid with a FIVE YEAR OLD.
i came, i bought lotsa stuff, i left.
It was my first year, im going to buy a t-shirt this year, that way i can proclaim my nerdiness.

However, im saving up for Photoshop, so im just going to go for a day. THough, i would have to say that my brother has a long hsitroy of blowing ALL of MY money VERY quickly before i can buy anything so... anyhoo...
Hey, have you ever done the D&D sessions there? are they any good, or are they boring? Is there going to be an eberron table?

08-28-05, 06:50 PM There is a game room that stretches through some of the biggest rooms there, we're talking its about half the size of a city block. All you gotta do is find the right area (they try to break it up into differant games), and set up whatever kind of game you want.

And if you're trying to save for Photoshop, might I suggest Paintshop Pro instead? Its about 90% as powerful as Photoshop, but only costs like 15% as much. You can get it for under a hundred bucks, easy.
