03-01-07, 04:18 PM This was addressed in the (sadly archived) thread concerning the Moons of Ebberon. Apparently, many of the moons are significantly larger than our own moon in the sky, and it must be quite a sight.

03-01-07, 04:20 PM I doubt most Eberronians could see any more distant stars than we can today. With 13 moons (even if only 4 are out one night) and an entire ring of glowing shards orbiting it, Eberron's night sky has a lot of light pollution.

:DGood job. RIP Douglas Adams. But we have a problem! There are friggin constellations in the ECS! They can obviously see some stars, enough to make pictures of dragons and hydrae.

Waxing moons, New Moons, so on and so forth. The moons aren't always full and i would think rarely full together.

And I've never really imagened the shards being uber-big and prehaps, like the moons, there are times when some of them aren't seen.

I'm sure if they were nearer to the center of the galaxy where the stars are closer together then they would be much brighter, and still visible even with all the light in the sky at night.

03-01-07, 11:38 PM I'm not an astronomer or anything, but it seems to me that there's no reason why Eberron's sun has to be near the edge of the galaxy like our own. I'm sure if they were nearer to the center of the galaxy where the stars are closer together then they would be much brighter, and still visible even with all the light in the sky at night.
The gravity alone would tend to preclude this, not to mention the threat of lethal radiation from Supernovas and such. With that many stars so close together, the chance of a close encounter that could launch a planet out of orbit, or even just alter that orbit, becomes very serious. A life-bearing planet is far more likely in a relatively quiet part of the galaxy like ours, and even we aren't safe. Betelgeuse is a scant 300 Light-years away and ready to go kablooie.

Now that I've depressed everyone with portents of horrible, agonizing, radioactive death, cancerousmango and Zombomaniac have a point. I completely forgot about the constellations, and waxing/waning would allow people to see stars at least every so often.

Still, the Warforged taking the place of the murderous Krikket robots is endlessly hilarious. :D

It takes a bit of the spectacle away from an eclipse when you have that many moons, because the likelihood that one of them will cross your line of sight of another is pretty good with that many. The same might even hold true with eclipses of the sun, how spectacular is a solar eclipse when you get one every couple of weeks?

The Celestia Software is preeety awesome in this regard. that and the appearance of everything but the first 3 really pales in significance with most of the rest looking comitish (without the tail ) and a few just bright staring it up.

Besides Eclipses ought to happen when something evil is happening in a manifest zone.

It's a segment on the conan o'brien latenight show. Don't know if you're from America or not...but anyway, the segment goes thusly. The lights go down and everyone dons silly robes with metal circles on them. They light themselves from underneath with green, and a falsetto sings "in the year 2000...in the year 2000!" and then they have a list of things that will happen. Here's an example (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Late_Night_with_Conan_O'Brien/intheyear2000/), video's hard to find because NBC is a dick about putting their stuff on the internet.

The comedy comes from the fact that these segments are being made in like 2006.

Oh, there's this search engine called Google. It's pretty good, you can usually find what you're looking for with it. Try looking up "Celestia software" or something of the like. You could actually probably use any search engine, come to think of it. Yahoo, even.

cancerousmango 03-04-07, 07:37 PM	Will happen? It's a segment on the conan o'brien latenight show. Don't know if you're from America or not...but anyway, the segment goes thusly. The lights go down and everyone dons silly robes with metal circles on them. They light themselves from underneath with green, and a falsetto sings "in the year 2000...in the year 2000!" and then they have a list of things that will happen. Here's an example (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Late_Night_with_Conan_O'Brien/intheyear2000/), video's hard to find because NBC is a dick about putting their stuff on the internet. The comedy comes from the fact that these segments are being made in like 2006.

It's pretty good, you can usually find what you're looking for with it. Try looking up "Celestia software" or something of the like. You could actually probably use any search engine, come to think of it. Yahoo, even.
