| Tiwaz01-19-08, 08:45 PM | I have recently realized I have been short changing my pc's witch brought me to the realization that not oneof the Eberron articles I have come across pants clear picture of Eberrons Economy. How dose the Economy of Eberron compare to that of regular D&D or our world? |
| Smug01-19-08, 09:29 PM | How dose the Economy of Eberron compare to that of regular D&D or our world? In what way? Dragonmarked probably gives the clearest picture of the differences. The economic landscape of Eberron is dominated by trade guilds that have a near-monopoly on various fields of industry. The standard prices listed in the PHB and DMG are a reflection of this, indicating the "Guild Standard" for both price and quality. In terms of standard of living, it's not like D&D itself is tremendously clear about it. I see no reason to assume that the standard hireling data from the DMG wouldn't apply to Eberron. In general, it seems like the people of Khorvaire are reasonably prosperous overall - at least, there's a sufficient consumer class to allow the Dragonmarked houses to prosper selling their services. On the other hand, we also know that Karrnath suffered due to famines and that a number of nations received wartime support from Riedra. So - what element of the economy are you asking about? |
| Yakman01-19-08, 09:31 PM | There are some rather contentious threads on this particular issue. Essentially, the prices are fixed by the Guilds, who dominate commericial life. The primary debates circle on the extent of D-Marked House control over the Guilds. |
| JulesCARV01-19-08, 11:20 PM | Galifarian average unemployment rate is about 10%. GDP per capita is approximately $2,000 in 2007 U.S. Dollars (keeping in mind that many high-tech goods are available in the U.S. and unavailable in Galifar, while many magical goods are unavailable in the U.S. and available in Galifar). The Gini Coefficient is around 0.35. Inflation is about 0%. Labor force is 60% agriculture, 15% industry, and 25% services. Economy is about 25% agriculture, 30% industry, and 45% services. |
| Smug01-20-08, 12:11 AM | The Gini Coefficient is around 0.35. Kol Korran's Tears! In the last session I ran, I went with a Gini Coefficient of 0.40. I just KNEW something was wrong... |
| Tiwaz01-20-08, 02:50 AM | [QUOTE=Smug;14870172]In what way? "Dragonmarked probably gives the clearest picture of the differences" As you will note I did state that I havent seen any articles that gave me a clear concept on this. I will look into Dragonmarked though thank you for the suggestion. As for things that are confusing me on this A meal in the PHB it is abut 5 sp in the Eberron setting it stats a meal at 5 gp their is an obvious deference hear and I wood just like s clearer picture of it. All the points you make abut The dragon marked houses are very valid and I will consider this. As for what it is i am asking. I am sorry if I was not very clear im just not cretin how much gold to give out if all and a clearer picture of the Economy wood help. |
| OctaviusIII01-20-08, 05:01 AM | Rely on the DM guide - that'll give you a clear picture for how much wealth your PCs should have. |
| Arcane Guyver01-20-08, 07:08 AM | PCs are part of the middle class in Khorvaire, meaning they're able to afford many things the common person can't. Even though they have the potential to get paid better than the common worker, PCs risk their lives instead of working a steady job, making scads of money in quick bursts. In this fashion, they quickly move towards becoming rich and affluent by mid-levels. Therefore, utilize the DMG wealth per level without worrying about the PCs getting too rich. If you follow the wealth per encounter table in the DMG you should be able to give the appropriate amount of cash to your players. |
| Hellcow01-20-08, 12:29 PM | As for things that are confusing me on this A meal in the PHB it is abut 5 sp in the Eberron setting it stats a meal at 5 gp their is an obvious deference hear and I wood just like s clearer picture of it. Where does it do this, Tiwaz? On page 16 of Sharn: City of Towers it lists the price of a meal at ranging between 12 copper pieces for buying from a street vendor to a whopping 75 SP to dine at the finest restaurant in Sharn... but that's essentially the same as comparing Taco Bell to a a fancy NYC restaurant with a big wine tab. As Smug has said, unless directly contradicted in an Eberron source, the prices listed in the PHB and DMG are supposed to be accurate in Eberron and reflect the guild standard prices for such services. If anything has suggested that 5gp is a TYPICAL price for a meal in Eberron, that's the mistake. There are certainly restaurants where you could spend that much, but they're catering to the upper class, not to the average citizen. So like AG says - use the DMG wealth guidelines and you should be fine. |
| Tiwaz01-20-08, 01:09 PM | ll my face is now red as I see where I made my first mistake. Witch was having one of my players look for a meal price in the Eberron campaign setting. He told me 5 gp for a regular meal but I now see what he was looking at witch was house Gahllanda purified meals per day. I am sorry for the confusion and my misquoting player will be punished! Thank you all for the Advice. Good health to you and your folk |
