3nigma 04-06-05, 04:23 PM	Hi guys, I bought my ECS on eBay. When it arrived in the mail, the binding had come apart in the first handful of pages, and 1/3 of the bottom of the pages were coming out of the spine of the book. So, I sent the book back and asked for an exchange. I got another one (great customer service eBayer), and it was in perfect mint condition. However, after using it gently for something like only two weeks, I'm having this same problem start again in the same spot (beginning pages of the book). Anyone else notice binding wear on their ECS books? I'd hate to be the one and only guy that lighting happened to strike...... twice :raincloud -3nigma :bigeyes:

the.eberron.traveler 04-06-05, 04:33 PM	no problems, and it's been in a few transatlantic bags. the spine has worn down to cardboard at some parts, but that's it.

My ECS has seen a lot of use too, and it is in great binding condition. The corners though... :weep: However, I my S:COT has begun to badly warp... Will the heat of being in the car all day in Florida do that to a book? I've never had this happen before.

Lord Hawkeye 04-06-05, 08:48 PM	I am having the same issue...but I just thought it was me. I use my book quite a bit but am very protective of it...the book geek in me ;) . Anyway -- yeah, the bottom 1/3 or so. Otherwise a good book... s oyou are not alone...but apparently its a rarity.
Edymnion 04-06-05, 08:53 PM	I hate to sound pessemistic, but maybe the guy you're getting them from on eBay just happened to luck into some dirt cheap rejects that were known to fall apart, and is selling them at full price plus a "discount". Buyer Beware, especially on eBay.

ILL34GL3 04-07-05, 02:55 AM	I'd see if WOTC customer service might help. And then trash them on the boards if they don't. For the price you paid, you deserve a quality product. I'd imagine they'd exchange it.

Antorylis 04-07-05, 02:54 PM	WotC replaced my ECS, which started to come apart after six months of use, without a problem. I e-mailed customer service, received a reply that included an address to send the defective book to, and I got my replacement book in the mail within two weeks.

spamfiltre 04-07-05, 03:52 PM	I've always prepared my harcover books before use and have never had a problem: When it is brand new, open it gently in the middle and lay it as falt as you can without forcing it. Then, working toward the front, a few pages at a time, gently turn the pages and run your thumb along the full length of the book. Start in the middle again and repeat the process for the second half of the book. It basically relaxes the binding in the correct places for the pages, rather than allowing a quick opening of the book to put stress on a single part of the binding. It only take s afew minutes, and een saved my AD&D Unearthed Arcana, which were notorious for bad binding.

As the cardboard takes on the humidity in the air to a small degree, the paper bends, but the nice, shiny gloss doesn't, which causes warping as the gloss pulls on the cardboard. This can also cause the gloss to detach from the cardboard in some cases: it's the same principle with foil trading cards.
