| The Necromancer King04-25-06, 09:46 AM | To split from the other thread heatedly debating the issue of Erandis d'Vol coming back to life, I've had an interesting idea in regards to. It may make for an interesting adventure/campaign. For the purposes of discussion, let us assume the following: 1) It is possible for Erandis d'Vol to return to mortal life. 2) Being mortal once more, it is possible also for her to return to lichdom. After all, she'd just have to perform the ceremony again. 3) Inevitables wouldn't kill her en masse the moment she tried anything of the sort. Regardless of whether or not she would be able to use her dragonmark, (I'm not certain that debate ever came to a unified conclusion), she would be able to have children. Her children would be very likely to have the Mark, especially if she were to mate with an Aereni elf with distant blood ties to House Vol. What if she were to return to life and start having children? Raising them from within the ranks of her cult, she would be able to slowly build a clutch of children with the Dragonmark of Death, and when she was done, she could return to lichdom to rule over the house forever. Campaign Ideas: Keep Vol from re-attaining mortal life. Find and kill Vol while she is in mortal form. Locate and detain/protect/kill all of Vol's potential suiters. Locate and detain/rescue/kill all of Vol's children (a potentially interesting moral dilemma...) Just another random thought from |
| Melvin the Mediocre04-25-06, 10:25 AM | Perhaps she has set herself up as the Queen of the Dead so that she could gather a large number of expiremental fanatics. If she is trying to return herself to life, she may need a large collection of undead to expirement on. Why risk blasting her own self to oblivion when she could test out the process on a few hundred vampires and lesser liches instead? As a DM with both a BoV cleric and a House Thurranni dragon marked elf, I think I have just found a new sub-focus for the campaign. Thanks for the post! |

Erandis being undead makes that difficult. So, all of the experiementation on undead and whatnot is, in fact, to return a portion of the physical substance to life so that it can be Cloned. Then it's a simple matter to just smash the Phylactery. However, I would suggest that this is not something Erandis wants. She knows the Dragons and Elves will begin to hunt her again, should they learn that a new Dragonmarked Half-Dragon were to crop up. She wants the House of Vol to return, but not in such a way that the old enemies will atuomatically begin to hunt the House down again. Restoring herself to life isn't an option. She needs the mark on the elves where it was before. |
| Grey_Mage04-25-06, 07:01 PM | Hmm... well considering the options... a huge charge of positive divine energy might do it... but that sounds like the basis for an eldritch machine to me.... |
| yossarius04-25-06, 08:53 PM | Aren't you assuming that dragonmarks are like genetic traits? Who says Vol will pass on the mark of Death when she has her children? Whatever power it is that grants dragonmarks to mortals might decide that, due to her abandoning her legacy by becoming a lich. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland04-26-06, 02:14 PM | If the marks aren't genetic and just happen (possibly as part of the unfolding Prophecy), then shouldn't the mark of death be showing up elsewhere? I think the destruction of the House of Vol was based on the idea that the marks are, in fact, genetic and thus killing everyone would end it. |
| The Necromancer King04-26-06, 03:12 PM | While not neccessarilly "genetic" as we understand the term, Dragonmarks tend to follow family lines. The Dragonmarked Houses are, in effect, large extended families. Even Abberant dragonmarks tend to follow some pattern, usually having been created by the mixing of "pure" dragonmarks. Today's more random occurances of abberants might simply be recessive traits passed down from the few marked survivors of the War of the Mark. If Erandis has children, they will be the most likely candidates for recieving the Mark of Death in their generation. If none of them manifest it, their children still have a very strong likelihood of manifesting the Mark. If she has children with a marked individual, though, they are more likely to be born with abberant marks (perhaps like in power to the mark that caused the plague in Sharn... Ideas, they keep a-coming). Then again, Siberys, Khyber and Eberron might all get together for a picnic and decide Warforged need a mark of their own. Eberron: You know those warforged guys the mortals are making? Khyber: Heard of em. Can't say as I like the idea. Siberys: I don't know. They sort of remind me of those big ones the giants used to make. Khyber: Wasn't much of a fan of those either. Eberron: You don't like anything though. Khyber: Touche. Eberron: I was thinking maybe they need a Dragonmark. Siberys: Yeah? Eberron: Yeah. Maybe bring that moon back, too. I sort of miss it. Siberys: I suppose we could do something like that. But what mark? Khyber: Haven't had a working Death in a while. Eberron: Nah, Death was always so... Icky. Siberys: No, I think Khyber's right on this one. Khyber: It's not like I really even care. Do whatever you guys think is best. Eberron: I guess it could be the mark of Death... Khyber: Whatever, man. Pass the canapes. Forgive the play; I've been up for 24 hours now, and it's starting to make my brain funny. |
