| MarkB06-23-05, 04:08 PM | I posted a 6th-level one-shot adventure awhile ago, Errand of Mercy, which was fairly well received. One thing that bothered me at the time was the final encounter - it was cliched, cheesy, and practically a straight repeat of a tactic used in an earlier encounter. I've rewritten that encounter and added the extra NPC it now requires. Mechanically, it's more-or-less identical, but plotwise it should make more sense now (can't make any promises on the cheese level, though ;) ). | Wasteland Knight06-25-05, 09:00 PM | I read Errand of Mercy, and thought it was quite good! So good, I followed the link in your sig for Broken Bonds, which I thought was even better! Both are quality adventures that really capture the Eberron feel, Broken Bonds especially well. I realize with Errand of Mercy you were shooting for a tournament style module, so you were working within time limits. Personally I've never liked tournament style adventures, but I think Errand was every bit as good if not better than the two RPGA Eberron adventures that Dungeon has published in the last two issues. I was curious if you had considered expanding Errand into a full length adventure - I certainly think you could have the PC's take an active part in maybe finding and recovering the cure and then using what you have now as the climax. As for Broken Bonds, I'm strongly considering using this adventure in my current campaign. I've based my game so far around the three published modules plus some stuff from Dungeon, and I have it plotted out until about level 12. Now I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with a way to introduce the Lords of Dust when my players have characters of significant level, and Broken Bonds may be just what I need. I'll probably set it in the Eldeen reaches, but it seems very "portable". Honestly, I think Broken Bonds would make an awesome full length adventure, possibly even a short campaign arc of several adventures. All in all, great work! And I hope we can see some more adventures from you in the future! |

Both are quality adventures that really capture the Eberron feel, Broken Bonds especially well. Thanks very much. I just ran a little over half of Broken Bonds over the course of a 12-hour all-day session (so this one definitely won't play as a convention slot, though I think it may work well if part one and two were run separately), and it went really well. The initial encounters were a nice warm-up, the players tackled the areas in the 'right' order so there wasn't any backtracking, and the climactic scene of Part One went off without a hitch (though player ingenuity at that point could keep a DM on his toes - I suggest having a couple of contingencies in mind for this part, to keep the conclusion reasonably intact). What we've played of part 2 also went excellently - Area 4 is a really tough battle if the hostiles achieve surprise, and was one of the most tense and tactical combats I've run. The party prevailed, but not before the paladin lost 80 out of 88 hitpoints, and Action Points were spent in profusion. As you can tell from ryanroyce and Solarious' responses, I am running Errand of Mercy online. Instead of using it as the climax of a campaign, I intend to use the written scenario as the jumping-off point for a longer and more involved campaign. As for Broken Bonds, I'm strongly considering using this adventure in my current campaign.
