So my players just finished a modified version of SOTLW (6 pcs @ 4th level) and I was thinking about doing a little more of a cthulu adventure before we launched into the quest for the 4th schema (I may or may not use GOTEC)... but instead of prepping the adventure for monday, I got sidetracked into playing Eternal Darkness for Gamecube for a couple of hours...

Anyone else think this might be a cool game to steal adventure ideas from? It may not necessarily be taken directly from the game, but I was thinking about the idea of the Tome of Eternal Darkness being an artifact, and then instead of the player(s) finding missing pages and then playing through the backstory, have the missing pages be clues to adventure locale's that they have to go to in order to stop Pius Augustus (BBEG) from assembling an Eldritch Machine to unleash his Daelkyr (or Rakhasa) master...

Just a quick thought, I'll post more tommorrow once I've thought about it some more...

Anyone else have any opinions on lifting the plot and feel from this particular game?

Actually, you could port the whole thing over pretty well.
Instead of the elder gods, make it the Dreaming Dark trying to manipulate our world into a situation that would facilitate their return.

Pious Augustus becomes someone not completing a ritual, but building an eldritch machine (like you said) that would open a planar gateway like was opened over the Giant empire, that would allow the Dreaming Dark to invade en masse.

And instead of him being a Lich, you could make him an Elan from the XPH. He was human, but was instilled with masive amounts of psionic energy by the Dreaming Dark in order that he might complete his mission. Which would also make him effectively immortal, like lich Pious, because the Elans do not die of old age, ever.

You could set an entire campaign up around that.
They find the Tome, and each chapter of the tome is a mini-campaign, with it's own characters. Then, when you get to the end, boom, its time to wail on Pious! :D
