What is in your personal opinion a major event that can trigger the new war? I am just looking for some inspiration here so don't be shy and spitt out those ideas...!

Assassinate the Kingof Breland. There is some good info in the Sharn book to develop this.

1. Boranel is killed!
2. The anti-monarchist faction arises
3. The monarchist rally behind the heir.
4. The Cryan exiles see an opportunity...
5. The other countries too see an opportunity, which would vary of course from supporting the heir to calling him a killer.
6. Ah then we have the nasty chap in the Cogs with the creation forge? Perhaps he offers he services to the Cryans? Warforged are back....

So you start with a lot of sabre rattling, skirmishes then war!!

The underlying reasons for most wars, whatever the specific events that seem to spark them, are economic - generally, a country no longer has the economic resources to sustain itself, and finds some excuse to take those resources by force from others.

In my 'Errand of Mercy' one-shot campaign, the players must prevent a plague from causing the Mror Holds to be quarantined. If they fail, the quarantine - cutting off a large percentage of House Kundarak's assets - triggers a run on Kundarak Bank that snowballs into a general economic depression across almost all the Nations. From there, it's a matter of mere months before tensions between the Nations erupt into the Next War.

You can always go the romantic way...

The husband or wife of a leader of one nation has an affair with the ruling family of another. Maybe the leader of the first nation finds out. Maybe his/her wife/husband decides to elope with their love, causing the leader to suspect kidnapping or enchantment spells used by the other nation.

I'm thinking of the movie Troy here.

Here is a plot i have been working on

1. Denieth free-staters provide fanatics of the Silver Flame with information that points to the true nature of Kaius.

2. Said fanatics inform Cardinal Crozan and he commissions a team of excorcists to assassinate Kaius.

3. The attempt fails and the assassins are killed by Kaius himself.

4. Kaius officially bans the Church from Karnath angering not only Thrane but the rest of the remaining 5 nations.

5. Crozan orders the invasion of Karnath both on diplomatic and religious grounds. Open war between Karnath and Thrane

6. The denieth free-statists take this opertunity to declare Karrlakton independant from the rest of Karnath and take over.

7. The mror holds declair their alliance with Karnath and agree to finance the war. The Talenta Plains follows suit and sides with Karnath.

8. The Queen of Aundair, seeing an opertunity to remove Kaius as a rival sides with Thrane.

9. Kaius hires the Valenar Elves using funds from the Mror Holds.

10. The non free-statist portion of House Denieth seeks refuge in Breland hoping to avoid total destruction.

11. Breland and Zilargo declair themselves neutral independants.

12. Thrane become the primary battle field for this new war due to the superiror numbers of the Karnathi-Talenta-Mror-Valenar Alliance.

13. The Thranish royal family, fearing for its life seeks refuge in Karnath much to the discontent of Kaius.

14. Houses Kundarak, Jorasco, and Ghallanda officially back Karnath forcing the other Drangonmarked houses to choose sides.

15. Houses Orien and Lyrandar decalare firm neutrality and subsequently move their bases of operations to Zilargo. House Sivis refuses to comment at this time.

16. Breland can no longer afford to maintain neutrality after reports that the merchant ship, Indefatigable, was sunk by Karnath and reluctantly joins the conflict on the side of Thrane and Aundair.

17. The remains of House Denieth in Breland go into exile in Q'barra.

18. House Thuranni joins the Thranish cause in order to back the Denieth free-statists. House Phiarlan lends its support to Karnath.

19. Zilargo begins selling weapons to Breland in exchange for security.

20. The Daughters of Sora Kell, the Lhazzar Princes and the Dargul grow rich by selling mercenary services.

21. The Blood of Vol secretly backs the Thanish cause against Karnath by pouring thousands of gold pieces into the coffers of the Church of the Silver Flame.

22. Kaius' secret is revealed and Crozan is discovered to be the mastermind behind the sinking of the Indefatigable

Though I am not learned about Kaius, I would think that a certain tactic of a certain group would provide a good background for a war in Khorvaire: the instigation of the Inspired. I mean, they came down and incited wars across Sarlona and rose to power in the aftermath. I can see them using this tactic once again. They probably would either start with the feud between the Cyrans in Sharn or between Karnnath and Thrane.
