Hey guys nice to see ya!

Just recently decided to start a evil eberron game and was wondering if anyone has played an evil eberron game and had any suggestions, comments, stories or thoughts. I don't really have a plotline yet other than "be evil and aquire power". Thanks!

I've played in a Star Wars game like that once. The problem that we had was that we were playing mindlessly evil characters, and when you're playing a total sociopath who is willing to murder excessively to get whatever they want, gaining power comes very easily and the game soon became tremendously broken and not very fun.

What I would suggest is to really develop the PCs motivations and backgrounds a bit. Keep in mind that most people (even EVIL people) generally feel love, compassion, hope, etc. as well as anger, rage, greed and jealousy. Consequently most all people are driven to do the "right" thing, even if their methods of achieving the "right" thing are evil.

So, what do I mean? Well...

An evil person may want to acquire power... but why does he want this power? Does he believe that he could rule the country better than the current ruler? Is he a patriot who believes that his kingdom was wronged by another and he feels that this slight cannot be tolerated? Does he want the people to follow him because he is jealous that his ancestors were the orginal rulers of a place, but they were displaced by the Last War?

Although it is possible to want power just for the sake of power, it makes for a better story if their is a reason for this ambition. It also sets logical limits to a character's evil, and helps to develop that character. A man who sees the current leadership of a kingdom as ineffective or illegitimate might have no problem murdering nobles and diplomats in their sleep, but might never even consider stealing from a merchant because they're not guilty of anything.

Also, remember that evil doesn't mean stupid. If your players go around torturing innocents for fun in their downtime, then they are going to have problems to contend with. Even if the city guard can't handle them because the average guard is second level and your party is level 10, the local magistrates are going to send adventuring parties and elite units to bring them to justice. Even evil characters don't act openly destructive. They should have to consider the consequences of their actions too, and in some cases that will mean that they have to do things differently.
