| Seth of the First Brigade02-21-07, 12:05 AM | I am looking for a template of a Will for my campaign. (similar to the examples of "Letters of Marque" and "Royal Decrees" in some of the canon Eberron material.) I need to create a Will for one of my players, and I want it to look authentic in regards to how a Will would have looked in a similar period of Earth history. (I realize Eberron is a fantasy world, but you get my point.) Does anyone have a template or example or such. Please help. Thanks! |

I need to create a Will for one of my players, and I want it to look authentic in regards to how a Will would have looked in a similar period of Earth history. (I realize Eberron is a fantasy world, but you get my point.) Hate to sound morbid, but most Will kits are pretty easy to use and contain enough "legalize" to sound proper and official. I have one myself, including a Living Will. Sadly enough, you never know what will happen to you, but you usually have a good idea of the state of affairs you'd leave behind if you passed away sometime soon, so if you're a professional or have some measure of personal assets it's never too early to consider drafting a will. For example, I've been through a divorce so it's important to me that my daughter continues to get what she needs (from Dora the Explorer dolls to College fund) should something happen to me, but I still need the legal protection to keep the ex-wife from spending the lot should she try to get her hands on the sad, small remainder of my estate. ;) Basically you will need three parts: the Attestation Clause, The Residuary Clause, and the Incorporation by Reference. Wikipedia has a pretty concise (if not confusing) set of articles on Probate 101. ( Click here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_%28law%29) ), which should have enough jargon in the exerpts to look convincing. |

I have seen some that start off: In the name of God, Amen. I XXXX, being of sound mind and body, do hereby declare in the presence of God and man that this is my Last Will and Testament to be executed at my passing. I hearby name (insert lawyer or family member) the executor of my final wishes. First, I bequeath..... ad nauseam. This I declare in writing by my own hand and by the seal of XXXX on this day (insert date) in the year of our Lord (insert year). Signed, XXXXX And that was off of the top of my head. With enough olde schoole speach and some legalize, it sounds fairly official. |
