Experienced DMs: Would you record your adventure session? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-20-05, 02:15 PM If an experienced DM could record their adventure session to audio (not necessarily the whole campaign), it would be a great benefit as a learning tool for many other people here...both as a player and as a learning DM.

This is a great idea if someone could step up to the plate and do this for the community. Just enough recordings to get through a whole adventure would suffice. Even 1 or 2 sessions would suffice if you could narrate or explain what you are doing as a DM in each situation.

Now I just have to figure out the audio bits of it, as I'm not really well versed in this. It might be cool to record the session, take out all the jokes and extraneous stuff and then edit in explanations of certain things that happen.

This is a good idea. It would be cool to get a good cross section of things. Count me in.

09-20-05, 04:47 PM If you guys need help setting up the audio, you might want to talk to the guys who run the Eberron podcast. I know they record a decent amount (but not their sessions, as they tend to run long and have lots of segways.)

I record 100% of my sessions, all the time, everytime. Mine's on the internet though, so it's all text. Heh.

09-20-05, 06:09 PM I would post the transcripts, but I'm MUCH to lazy to edit out the OOC and the rolling and such, so they're really really messy. However, a good friend of mine who's running a much better game also logs his game, and I clean those up, so I'll post them. My character is Vaeraes.

We had a session scheduled but on short notice I had to go in to do some work on that day. Rather than cancelling the session I left a note to my players with what I wanted for the evening.

The campaign had reached to a point where they were about to engage in a major battle with large armies on both sides, it was a nervous time for all. So I left a 2 hour tape, told them that when everyone was there they were to roleplay the evening around the campfire.

It worked better than I expected. I got a good 2 hours of camp stories, legends of valor, but most importantly they really got an idea of who their characters were and where they were going and why they were still all together as a group. They discussed tactics and other things as well, but mostly it was a nervous story telling in preperation for the coming battle.

Exactly which podcasts are covering your Eberron game sessions as they are in progress? I know someone said they start with #5 but that is not the actual game. Where is the actual gameplay session? Also, does the DM explain what he is doing and why? Something like this would be extremely helpful. :)

I guess I don't understand the concept of their podcast then.

I would pay them for a training broadcast where they run an Eberron session and the DM explains what he is doing. I'm sure other people would pay to download it off their site. If money is involved, I would wear the headset and love it. /shrug

They seem to have a good thing going and all the audio equipment.

The Podcast is really about us being gamers and friends and misfits. A typical Podcast has us recapping our latest game (complete with interruptions :rolleyes: ), and then discussing various points of interest.

Religions of Eberron
Classes
Races of Eberron
Gaming Style
Playing Styles
Rants

Etc..

We keep talking about recording an actual session, but there are issues around technical feasibility and also interfering with the game. :eek:

One thing to keep in mind is that what works for one GM might not work at ALL for another. It depends on the GM, the players, the game, the tone, the mood and more...

Is there any specific help or advice you're looking for? Are there any things you're struggling with? Do you need help getting started? Talk to me goose!

PS - Poltah, I think I'd still get a huge kick out of it. :w00t: Lemme know if you do something like that.

09-21-05, 06:48 PM I would add that you might actually get a lot out of the Recaps. It talks about what happened in the game, how the players did it and what we liked about the game. I'm trying to remember which episode was the Recap that included the trip to Karrnath ((I want to say 12)).

09-22-05, 03:10 AM Yeah, polt is right. The podcast is a great listen and very entertaining. I think it's a good thing to get to hear other people's incites and views about aspects of Eberron and about Eberron as a whole. I definately recommend it.

I heard they have several sessions recorded while going through the World's Largest Dungeon and offer it as a podcast. I guess I'll check it out and see if anything can be learned from whoever is DMing.
