Ok, this isn't a thread to pimp Fable, but while I was playing it and immersing myself in its "For Every Choice, a Consequence" theme it reminded me of the way Eberron is geared toward the PCs being the driving forces in that setting. Anyhoo, for those with the game, can you see the Hero's Guild being in Eberron? I'd love to see my PCs START something like this, perhaps after they've reached epic levels or something. Of course, I'd say it'd have to be of a Good alignment, not both. I really like the teleporting Guild Seals and think that you could even make some cool PrCs for it. Just a thought to run with if you like.

I haven't gotten that far into Fable to figure out the purpose of the Hero's Guild all that well.

Personally, I think there is already an explorer's organization in existance on Eberron that could be modded with some of the facets of the Hero's Guild in Fable.

Yea, like that. I realize that a lot of the Hero's Guild would need to be tweaked, but I love the idea of a "Justice League" of heroes in Eberron!

Wait until you get married and...

I think the Wayfinder Foundation is Eberron's closest equivalent, along with parts of House Deneith and Tharashk. But you could always found your own "League of Extraordinary Gentlebeings".

I think having the Heroes guild for the PCs would be a great assest. In fact, I'd say it would be too great an assest. Especially while starting out in the world. The teleporting feature is great, but one of the deals of getting around is the traveling. Indiana Jones doesn't "teleport" (not the spell, the camera/screen work) from one ruin to the next, we see his encounters along the way and all the problems he has to encounter. Teleporting should be feature best meant for needing to get somewhere really really quickly in Eberron. It's in Fable b/c having to walk all over the dang place all the time would drive most people crazy and just wain on intrest in the game.

Something like the Heroes guild could definetly exist, though the one in Fable seems to be a large driving force in the world. You'd have to consider if House Deneith is running it or if some private faction was. Either way you'd have to take into consideration a lot of how all the other houses would react to such a thing.

Hee Hee... MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE HALL OF HEROES!!!
The Wonder twins are forming and shaping of yet more useless objects.
MEANWHILE!!! in another part of the Hall of Heroes, Apache Chief grows larger watching Wonder Woman bake cookies wearing only her magic bracelets and lasso...
:)
Sorry. I couldn't resist. My omage to Frank Caliendo's genius.

Anyway, I think it's a very cool idea. I don't think that you'd necessarilly have to be associated with one of the Houses. It might help but there are plenty of independent guilds and such that are in competition against the house. I also think that this sort of thing is what the creators of Eberron had in mind when they designed the setting with the PC's being the most mighty and spotlighted individuals of Khorvaire.
Maybe a little tweeking here and there and using the Way Finder Foundation as an example from which to develope from, and I might snag the overall idea.

*my .02 cents placed on the table*
Thanks Bubba333 cool idea

I can see the Heroes Guild being around in Eberron. I used something similier back in the day for Erathdawn and my groups huge circle of PC's. They picked by people by Job.

BTW I only have two wives and am working on Lady Gray as we speak.

Another fable kinda side thing, Its too bad there arent any high level legends in the world that you could meet or have weird backstory with.

Yea, I just beat the arena (didn't die at all!) and met Lady Grey.

BTW, how do you actually get married (and have...*ahem*)? I gave a woman a ring, but I can't get hitched? Oh yea, I own a PIMP house! :D

BTW, how do you actually get married (and have...*ahem*)? I gave a woman a ring, but I can't get hitched? Oh yea, I own a PIMP house! :D

This is relavitly easy to do, it just take a bit of time. Begin with knowing that somewomen are more interested than others. Your appearance matters so put on your best clothes and go into the personality menu and make sure your "apperance" is at the very least in the positive numbers. You should also have an easier time with the more Reknown you have.

Next, go buy some chocolates and some roses. There are other gift options, but it's a waste to buy the other gifts b/c they're too expensive and the 2 cheap ones work just fine. Now you walk up to a woman, you talk to her first, then go ahead and get macin' on her. Basically there are three Emotion icons women love: flirt, arm pump, and chest show off. You do that for a bit and a heart should begin to appear above her head, avoid doing any of those in a row too many times. Give her the chocolates than get going at the emotion icons again.

The red heart should be full on pumping again by this point and then you give her some roses (NEVER EVER give a woman the same gift in too close and amount of game time. They freakin' hate double gifts and will be upset and loose intrest in you). Use the emotion icons again and pretty soon she should be hook line and sinker. You get better at this so don't worry if it doesn't work the first time (strangely enough there are a few men who are suseptible to this, so if a guy starts watching you 2 and cheering, he may seem interested in you). The red heart (really pink) shoud then change colors to a dark red and then slow flash, that means she is in love with your character. Talk to her and she usually says something like, "How 'bout a weddin' ring?" At this point ofcourse it's ok to give her a wedding ring, warning though don't give out the fake wedding ring. After this point you need to buy a house in the town she lives in, most towns have houses for sale so you shouldn't have a problem. However if it so happens you don't want to waste the time to do that, you may "relieve" a hapless victim of their home and come back later after the guards dont' care anymore and then buy the poor sod's old house b/c his relatives just can't bear the sorrow of living in his house.

Yay! wedding goes off, there is a cool new scene of a wedding and for one day all is right in the heroe's world. Now, if you want to do the, "nasty in the pasty," as Fry so eloquently puts it in Futurama you'll have to do more emotion stuff and buy some chocolates and roses again. Then at one point she'll yawn and talk about going to bed. That's it, you're given an ambiguous prompt, say yes if you want. Yay! instant babies, well no babies really, but I think that would have been an interesting feature. Ya know, your kid messes up and pisses off your evil or frustrated good hero then you give the boy what's comin' to ya just like dear ol'dad did, sorry just kidding ( I really don't mean to insult anyone, it's just a joke). Oh yeah, the really good women to find are the ones that are frequently "go to sleep" girls and they also say, "hehe, you're a bit, norty," in this really silly sounding British accent.

This is my idea for a point based system like fables.

This system uses Hero Points:
Hero Points are based off the experience point system of "Fable". It is a way of having even more customization in your characters. Hero Pts are a mesure of the Hero's Heroic Experience and a way to describe the progresion of the Hero Class. There are 4 types of Hero Points General, Physical, Skill and Mental.

General Hero Points:
These are the all purpose Pts. For every 1 Pt of EXP the Hero gets 1 GHP. GHP's can be used instead of specific Hero Points aslong as at least 25% of the cost of the improvement is paid out of the specific Hero Points for that improvement. The only ecception is When you want to purchase feats using Hero Points then you just have to use GHP and it costs 2500 GHP to get 1 Bonus Feat.

Physical Hero Points:
PHP's are the Hero Points that are gained when doing phisical actions(mostly). Melee attacks, Fortitude Checks, STR & CON checks and Skills based off of STR or CON all generate 1 PHP per 1 rolled above the DC.
Example: attack roll of 23 against a DC of 18(AC)= 5 PHP( 23-18=5)
Improvements:
Primary- cost 5000 HP
+1 to STR or
+1 to CON

Secondary- cost 2500 HP
+1 to melee attack mod or
+1 to Fort Save or
+1 to Damage or
+1D4 to Hit Points

Tertiary- cost 1000 HP
+1D10 points to place as misc mod to any skills based off of STR or CON( no more then 2 per skill for each die roll )

Skill Hero Points:
SHP are the points generated by Ranged attack rolls, Reflex saves, DEX and CHA checks and Skills based off of DEX and CHA. 1 SHP per 1 above the DC on rolls.
Improvements:
Primary- cost 5000 HP
+1 to DEX or
+1 to CHA

Secondary- cost 2500 HP
+1 to Ranged attack mod or
+1 to Reflex Save or
+1 Deflection mod to AC(stack with other deflection mods) or
+1 to Initiative

Tertiary- cost 1000 HP
+1D10 points to be placed as misc mod for any skills based off of DEX or CHA( no more then 2 per skill for each die roll )

Mental Hero Points:
MHP's are the Hero points generated when a character has to make an attack roll for spells, will save rolls, INT & WIS checks and Skills based off of INT or WIS. once again for every 1 point over the DC of the roll.
Improvements:
Primary- cost 5000 HP
+1 to INT or
+1 to WIS

Secondary- cost 2500 HP
+1 to Will save or
+1 to Languages known or
+1 to # of Spells known or ( in addition to thoughs from lvl)
+1 to # of Spells per day from one level of spells( in addition to thoughs from lvl)

Tertiary- 1000 HP
+1D10 points to be placed as misc mod for any skills based off of INT or WIS( no more then 2 per skill for each die roll)

for the skill points die roll means that each time you roll 1D10 up to 2 of thoughs point may be put in any skill that meats criteria( ex. if you roll a 5 it would be split up this way 2+2+1 or 2+1+1+1 or 1+1+1+1+1 or anyother combo that has no more then 2 being added to one skill)

what do you all think. this prestige class would not have and prereq. so if a player wanted they could aprentice as a hero and something else at first level. kinda like in the game.

Well, I enjoyed the whole concept behind Demon Doors, so I plan to incorporate them in Eberron one way or the other.

The weapon system in Fable where you use augmentations is a simplistic, similar fashion to elemental binding / use of shards in Eberron.

IMG, I've used the Hero's guild concepts to flesh out the monastaries of the Path of Light. The three Hero disciplines inspired me to create sub-schools in the monastaries for the various forms of psychic ability (telepaths, egoists, etc.)

Can we say Hero point system = broken? slight flaw. I find a building. I put a rope off the roof and climb it. DC 5. I roll a 10 + 4 (ranks) + 2 (str) + 2 (climbers kit) +2 (synergies from use rope). oh look i got 15 PHP's. Lets do that over again. Then i am gonna balance on a chair chair in my inn room. DC 10, i roll a natural 20. Rogue level 1. 20 (crit) is 30 + 4 (dex) + 4 (ranks in balance). so thats 28 SHP's. Then there is the real kicker. We are riding in a cart (driven by the fighter) to waterdeep from Shadowdale (could happen). I brought along a hemp rope (50 feet). Why? cause every rogue has one.... no? Lets tie knots. Tie a firm knot. DC 10. lets say i roll a 10 again. 10 (roll) + 4 (ranks... who doesn't take rope use?) + 4 (dex) +2 (friend helping cause he is bored). there is 10 more points.

Push comes to shove... to easily abused... otherwise i would say its a wicked idea. Sorta like the Palladium Rifts exp chart. To easily abused though. If ya found a way to limit it then it would be kook. Oh and don't let me get started on experince for speak language. Personly i like the idea and might work it into my game... but slightly altered. By the way... Fable was a kool game and has some great idea's in it that could work in D&D :)

EDIT: Sorry i do not mean to offend you or anyone with this, after re-reading it i find that i was a lil harsh, but it is broken....

From an RP perspective (if you are a good guy), it's kinda strange to court Lady Grey, especially when you uncover evidence at Grey house that shows that she killed her own sister to inherit rulership of Bowerstone.

Sadly you cannot exact justice since Bowerstone is a weapon-free city.

From the metagame perspective, it makes perfect sense to marry her as she gives a 15,000 gold dowry, as well as access to her bedroom which has a Silver Key & the fabulously cool artifact weapon, the Katana Hiryu.

Consumating your marriage is tough since you have to wait until dusk for her to go to her bedroom (she does not obey the Follow command, which should not shock you).

Put on your best clothes & enhance yourself with attractive tattoos, give her a couple of expensive gifts (low-end gems & perfume do the trick. Rubies are easily liberated from the corpses of Earth Trolls, so don't pay for them. DO NOT give her another Black Rose, as she doesn't respond well to them even after you had to use one in the quest to win her affection), use your Flirt & Sexy Hero Pose expressions.

Eventually she'll give you the "come hither" look. Whoopee!!

One think that sucks is that you cannot use the Grey bedroom to crash in. It's only there for you to sleep with Lady Grey & to hide the Silver Key.

If you want to rest in Bowerstone proper, you still have to pay for lodging at the Tavern.

Hey i agree with you it could be abused but the fact that it can be just means that it needs to be playtested. ithink it would be cool and if it is too easy to get the points then increase the costs( i would recomend making feats 4000 or 5000 but if you do i say make it posible to spend general and specific for feats )you could also say that misc mods to skills dont count for the purposes of gainig Hero points( ie you add them to see if you succeed but when you see how many hero points you get you then subtract the misc mod from the HP example.

I put a rope off the roof and climb it. DC 5. I roll a 10 + 4 (ranks) + 2 (str) + 2 (climbers kit) +2 misc (improvements from hero points). oh look i got 15 PHP's. now you subtract the 2 from previous improvements and you only get 13. So even if you had 30 misc mod from improvements it woudnt count for geting extra HP. also you have to remember that sure geting 15 to 25 but even just geting a skill point improvement costs 1000 so at 25 a pop ( not a first level char unless he takes 10 every time) thats still 40 skill rolls. now at 10 minutes a pop that means that if you were using climb skill that you would have to climb for almost 7 hours to get 1000 PHP right off. now me i would give a comulative +5 to the dificulty for every 10 minutes of strait climbing.

now for char's that are doing things just for the sake of geting hero points then i would say that the first time it earns them points but that after that unless they are doing it for a reason it doest earn them anything. remember that in the game if you beat the heck out of a practice dummy it gained you no hero point except at the begining when you were learning how to use a weapon. so using skills just to use them so you can get HP i would rule that abuse and say no. now if you had to climb down a 1000 foot wall in a gaming session then yes i would give hero points but not for climbing up and down a 10 foot wall over and over.

so in closing i think there is room for abuse but if you watch your players then there is realy not much chance to abuse it. just remember that you are the DM and hold the "NO" or "It Doesn't Work" cards.
