So this has been on my mind for a while, and I wanted to know what others on the boards thought.

Giant Dwarf Face (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82122.jpg)

The entry under the Mror Holds talks about this face that the dwarves supposedly carved from the mountains there. Interestingly enough, it says that some scholars in Khorvaire think that the dwarves were not advanced enough to carve such an impressive monument, and that they created the image by paring down some larger image.

So what could this larger image be? My theory: Eberron herself's face. Lots of evidence abounds. My favorite example is that Eberron Shards are only found in stone, implying that Eberron herself is the stone of the earth. In any case, thoughts? Am I crazy?

I could buy that easier than I could them carving that thing out of a mountain.
I mean, that thing looks like it DWARFS (no pun intended) Mt. Everest.

I'd love to see what kind of base that thing has that allows it to support that much weight.

Well, like many other wonders in a world of magic, I bet that part of it is supported through magic of some sort. Perhaps a manifest zone, or maybe something more exotic. It it was Eberron's Face, perhaps it is supported by some kind of special internal structure.

Face of Eberron is a good concept.

My thoughts on it were that it was created during the age of giants. Possibly as homage to one of their gods.

I like your idea and now I think the following.

It was the face of Eberron herself originally. The giants then got to it and changed it to their image. After millenia of neglect the Dwarves came along. With some of the similarities between dwarven and giant facial features it was not a great task to modify and restore it in their own image. This project could have taken a thousand years, not out of the realms of possibility since the dwarves have been there for about 13,000 years according to the timeline in the ESB.

Now some big questions come along.
Why is this the only artefact from the age of giants on this continent?
Were they banished from this land for their desecration?
Did the demons still have too great a hold on the continent?
Was there a "lost" kingdom of giants with ruins that are yet to be discovered?
Did the dwarves go through a more advanced period of civilisation at one point and regress to what the first wave of humans discovered?
Did the dwarves destroy the giants that were inhabiting the area?

The more I think about it the more questions and possibilities arise.

it could have been a monument left from the are of demons. perhaps a Rajah comissioned the work. when the dwarves got there they saw the thing and had to change it because it was so frightening.
Now no one knows what it was because the people that saw what it was before refused to tell their children what a horrid site it was.

And some people think the pyramids were built by aliens. What a group of modern day(Eberron) scholars says has nothing to do with what actually made it. The dwarves were there long before humans were. I think that it was a monument left being by the 'Lost' clan that locked itself way in Kyber to contain some greater evil(dragon shard article if I remember correctly). They had some impressive power to be able to create such powerful wards. It would not be beyond the capabilities of such a group to alter a whole mountain. For Eberron I try to avoid god(s) intervention as much as possible. For me its much better to explain such things though the works of the races, possibly the power of the planes through a manifest zones. How can it be explained by spell use, Stone Shape or in the extreme Wish. There may also be some magic item that would allow to do something like that. But that's just my view.

In order to use Stone Shape like that it would take very serious devotion to continue such a project. Perhaps a dwarven religion devoted to Eberron? Regardless it would take generations. More interesting, what if such projects continue into the modern day of Eberron.

I think the idea of a manifest zone is quite appropriate for explaining the monument. Syrania seems an obvious choice; Sharn's manifest zone to the plane allows for the same physics-defying architecture. Hey, they even got dwarves to build much of the city. Maybe that's because they saw the work dwarves did with the similar manifest zone in the Iron Root Mountains.

what about the more advanced dwarves of the lost clan.
they supposadly had great power at creating intems and would have been significantly more advanced. when they left the other dwarves (devolved?) lost knowledge in their constant battles
