| atanhel09-15-04, 01:03 AM | Where in the core rule books is falling damage covert? I can't seem to find it ( 3.0 rulebooks)! |
| Dauntless09-15-04, 02:11 AM | 1d6 per 10 feet fallen, to a max of 20d6. Deliberately jumping turns the first 1d6 into non-lethal. DC 15 jump or tumble check reduces the effective distance by 10 feet. Page 303 in the DMG |
| straylance09-15-04, 05:45 AM | Though it isn't precisely on subject, I thought I would add that though that is the correct rules, it wasn't supposed to be designed that way. IMC, falling damage is 1d6 per 10 feet per 10 feet (so falling 30 feet is 1d6+2d6+3d6 damage). This prevents player characters from jumping off cliffs for fun :D . But the reason I do it is because it more accurately reflects the way gravity works. |
| Unpronounceable09-15-04, 01:22 PM | Though it isn't precisely on subject, I thought I would add that though that is the correct rules, it wasn't supposed to be designed that way. Of course, that makes it one of the the most consistant typos ever - people have been making that same argument since about 1980. |
| atanhel09-15-04, 01:32 PM | a precise reflection would give: F=m*a, so a character with more mass would take more damage! ( technically distributes a greater force on the surface it 'lands' on but since F1=-F2 ( vetorically seen), the force is just as great on the falling object). and since a= dv/dt, more damage is aplaid to a longer falling subject! so togive the most precise calculation: damage increases by 1 die for every 10 feet extra fallen ( 1d6 for 10 feet, 3d6 for 20 feet etc.) and is multiplied with the factor from wich weight diffirences from +/- 70 kg ( so someone weiging 100 kg who falls 50 feet gets 15d6*(10/7)= avarage 75 damage!) but the system as it is is good ;) ( is it subdual, and is is discribed somewhere? in a book I mean?) |
| Dauntless09-15-04, 03:28 PM | but the system as it is is good ;) ( is it subdual, and is is discribed somewhere? in a book I mean?) As I said before, it is on page 303 of the Dungeon Master's Guide. It is real damage, unless you are intentionally jumping, in which case only the first 1d6 is non-lethal. The rest is still real. |
