samsonite 12-25-06, 09:06 PM	i have been trying to find what the special is for the spiretop dragon is. I am playing an arcane type that gets a familiar, in the sharne book it says that the spiretops are seen around as wild, familiars and animal companions; but i can't find the specials you get from having it. example: rat +2 on fort saves
DaemonStryker 12-25-06, 09:15 PM	There is no official special for spiretop. Perhaps you could get a DM ruling on that? Keep in mind, to get one as a familiar, you'd need to take the improved familiar feat. Also, look to see (or ask your DM) what their level adjustment is.( level adjustment = - 4, a lvl 5 sorc treats as if he was lvl 1). Might want to find out if they have one at all. Spiretops sound cool. Could you PM me their stats?
Cabral 12-26-06, 12:59 PM	When you take an "Improved Familiar", you do not normally get any special bonuses like +2 fort saves. You still get the abilities all familiars, regardless of type get such as share spell and alertness.

Edymnion 12-26-06, 04:16 PM	Generally speaking, anything but the normal tiny animal familiars will not grant any extra abilities. The reason the little ones do is to make them worth taking. Things like a spiretop dragon or a formian have their own special abilities and cool factor that make them worth having all by themselves. So, rule of thumb is if it isn't a tiny sized mundane animal, it doesn't grant you any bonuses of any kind.
