11-14-06, 04:36 AM With the great ideas and descriptions of the Favored in House feat in the recent Dragonmark book, I was wondering about that feat...

It seems odd that it is virtually impossible to obtain a DC 25 favor at all. A character of 16th level (who can add a +5 bonus to his roll) needs a natural twenty, without using action points. Anyone beneath 16th level and without action points will be unable to call in such a favor; since Eberron is low-level, such uses are thus impossible and even the patriarch of a house or his viceroys would not be able to call in such a favor.

And you can't take 10 or 20, or even retry for the same favor.

Am I overlooking something here (it doesn't seem to be based on an ability, or modified by House Status or anything like that, unless I am misreading something), or is it meant to be an extremely rare, and usually impossible, occurence?

11-14-06, 04:51 AM I always thought you'd add your charisma modifier to it, apparently I was wrong, but I think it would make sense, and it would not be imbalanced IMHO. (i.e. consider a 16th level character that try for a DC 25 Favor, with a CHA of 30 (!!!!) he still would have a 50% chance of failure, and at that level the lesser favors are chicken feed, anyway, more a flavor thing than real advantages (and you have a limit to how many favors can you call in a week).

Beside is weird that Cha don't influence this ability at all. A 3 CHA barbarian have the same chance to get a favor than a 40 CHA bard!? I think is a error in the feat.

11-14-06, 05:46 AM Making it a charisma check modified by the level-based bonuses would indeed make sense to me, for all those reasons. It would also allow you to apply your House Status bonuses to it - after all, it seems weird to have a higher status in your house but no way to make it count when you are looking for favours.

11-14-06, 08:25 AM The more I think about it the more I'm persuaded it should be errated to add the charisma modifier. It just don't make sense that a 16+ level character have still a 25% chance of failure when asking for a Small Favor.
