Favored in house [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-03-06, 11:36 AM Just a quick question.

I have read the prerques for the Favored in House feat, and would like to know if the person taking it has to be of the same race as the house.

Ex: Gnome favoed in house Cannith?

It seems like t should be possible. Perhaps that individual and their family has been working in the higher echilons(sp?) of the house for some time, and has earnd the trust of its big-wigs.

Basically, by the book, no.

If it is possible, its through roleplaying and as a special DM reward, not as a 1st level feat taken by anyone. Such status should be considered special and have a real story behind it.

02-04-06, 05:29 PM It is very difficult to be in the upper echelions of a house if you are not of the right race to have the dragonmark of that house. DM houses, are first of everything, a family and to enter in the higher circles you must be family, bi birth or by marriage, and DM houses members don't like marriages that don't have chances to generate other dragonmarked members.

So, it is possible, but is really, really, really hard.

02-05-06, 12:54 AM The feat is really there for PC purposes rather than NPC purposes, and it is generally assumed that most people playing members of dragonmarked houses will be mainstream house members.

While the houses do take on non-familial associates, by and large they favor members of their own bloodline, followed by members of their own races. Occasionally, very promising non-family associates may be invited to join the house via arranged marriage. Obviously, this doesn't work well in the case of, for example, the human House Cannith and gnomes. A gnome inside House Cannith might be valued associate, but can never truly be a member of the house by traditional measures.
