Having been playing Final Fantasy X-2 a lot over the past couple of weeks, it struck me that it might make an excellent Eberron campaign. Imagine a party that has been hired by a House Lyander captain to search for "spheres," a precursor to final messengers. Perhaps these spheres hold the answer to a current problem.

But this is as far as I got. Sense two (or many more) heads are better than one, I thought I'd toss the idea out and let you folks chime in. Perhaps we can cobble together the fun basis for a campaign between all of us.

*Disclaimer: The only real thing I want to use from the game is the idea of "sphere hunters." While the storyline for the game is quite enjoyable, I'm much more intersted in creating a new storyline using the idea of sphere hunters as a central theme.

So, any thoughts/comments?

this is cool my current story arc n my campaign is based around seven spheres that a wizard (rakshasa in disguise oooh i cant wait to see the look on their faces tomarrow hahahaha) is after to release a rajah named Neob from his prison in the demon wastes.

i would go into much more detail but i'll wait til after tomarrow when the story arc concludes

You know, a garment grid and a couple of dress spheres would be hilarious if your players don't catch on quickly enough. :D

But yeah, the FFX-2 world is a little too cheery for Eberron. The original FFX is a slightly better match.

The best way to include the Sphere Hunters concept is to change what you call the spheres. "Arcane polyhedra" is a good start. Of course the rival hunters should be a sort of comedy team. The Three Stooges or the Marx Brothers with well-chosen stats can be a good challenge. Heck, even George Burns and Gracie Allen could be a devastating team.

George(Rogue):Say "Good night, Gracie."
Gracie(Sorceress): Good night, Gracie. *Casts sleep*

Instead of making the Spheres be some kind of Final Messanger why not make it just be Dragonshards of whatever type you like. The PCs are contracted to find shards by whichever house you like all the while racing their rivals for them.

COnversly I like the idea of the 7 sphers to open the Rajah's Prison, something like that has a definet coolness to it.

George and Gracie are so stolen.

Hmm, I do agree X2 is much too cheery - but I didn't want to steal the atmosphere or style, just the concept.

Dragonshards also work well...

Keep those ideas coming.

In Final Fantasy X-2, a sphere is essentially one of two things.
1. A DvD or VHS tape - something you can record audio and video on.
2. A magic item that lets you act as a class, more or less (this translates poorly outside of a video game).

Ummm it reminds me some kind of magic object and adventure for my campaign ...

The magic object consist of a metalic ball with a "top" entry ... the idea is to fit some kind of small dragonshard in it, and doing it permits to record a series of sounds and images (ilusion spells)...

So the players find the ball that guides them to xen'drik and they have to find dragonshards with a series of images of an explorer making a record of his exploration...

Of course, the story goes darker and the guy on the "holographic" ball get killed ...
