| VelouriaDS05-09-05, 11:21 AM | I turned my character's origin story into a filk and for the heck of it decided I would share it with the forum. I've been having a Lemony Snicket's theme lately, my character, Jarlie, seems to be having "a series of unfortunate adventures". So, here it is. (with appologies to Simon and Garfunkel) I have to warn you. The filk you are about to read is neither happy nor funny. If you would rather have something more silly or upbeat, it is not too late to go and listen to Weird Al sing about rocky road ice cream and triple scoops. The Mourner I am just an orphan, though my story’s seldom told I have scrambled my existence with a pocketful of memories – all that’s left to me. Don’t know what’s best. Getting through the only way I can and making up the rest. (humming) When I came out of the orphanage, I was no more than a girl In the company of strangers On the quiet of the lightning rail running scared. Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters where the ragged people go Looking for the places only they would know. Li La Li… Finally coming to my senses, I go sign up for the war and fight for Cyre. Just because my country’s all I have to call my own. I do declare, just fighting for my country, I was almost happy there. La La La La (humming) (instrumental) Li La Li Now my memory’s rolling by me, though I wish it just a dream. No more Cyre Wearing Cyre garb while my memory’s bleeding me, leading me to go home. In the clearing stands a Mourner and a fighter by her trade. And she carries the reminders of all the fallen soldiers And a nation laid to ruin, while she lives on through the pain. She adventures, She adventures, though the Mourner still remains Still remains. Li La Li… |

| VelouriaDS05-09-05, 06:39 PM | Well, it's sort of like folk music. It is a mixture of song parodies and original music, humorous and serious, about subjects like science fiction, fantasy, computers, cats, politics, the space program, books, movies, TV shows, love, war, death. . . I think it started at science fiction conventions. If you want some great sci. fi. filk, look up "Luke Ski" in google and see what comes up. |
