| kavuforged8612-13-07, 02:59 PM | I usually bring idea and even characters into my sessions. I'm currntly in a game where I want a "Firefly" feel to it. Of course the game is Eberron, Does anyone have any ideas on how the crew of serenity would be(race, class, etc.)? |
| skrap-san12-13-07, 03:46 PM | Inara could be a changeling that had "escaped" the bordellos of Sharn. River could be a madborn (Five nations) Kayley could be a half elf from house Lyrandar and maybe a artificer or magewright. Wash would also be half elf artificer (assuming we are going for a airship). Zoe would be human fighter. (Due to Wash's comment about her being a warrior woman). And since she and Malcolm fought Malcolm i don't have any good ideas for race for so ill leave him human. And a swashbuckler rouge. Simon would be either Cleric, just to make him a doctor, but i assume there is better classes for him out there. Jayne is either fighter or barbarian, no matter what he is a half orc. Preacher should either be Cleric. its some on the fly suggestions. hope they can help |
| Toloran12-13-07, 05:39 PM | Inara could be a changeling that had "escaped" the bordellos of Sharn. River could be a madborn (Five nations) Inara sounds about right but River doesn't really sit right with me as a Madborn. Yeah she is crazy but Madborn gives a -4 to int and the whole point of her character is that she is crazy smart (Well... it COULD be that she was SUPER smart to begin with and then made less so by being crazy, like a 24 int before and 20 after). I'm thinking class wise she would make a good Psion (Seer) due to her ability to "read" people. Kayley could be a half elf from house Lyrandar and maybe a artificer or magewright. Definately artificer, perhaps a human artificer who is a foundling? Wash would also be half elf artificer (assuming we are going for a airship). Hmm... maybe. The main thing needed to pilot airship if you don't have the correct dragonmark is a high charisma. So either he is a dragonmarked house lyrandar member or a charismatic anything else. Zoe would be human fighter. (Due to Wash's comment about her being a warrior woman). And since she and Malcolm fought Malcolm i don't have any good ideas for race for so ill leave him human. And a swashbuckler rouge. Malcolm is more scoundrel then swashbuckler, IMO. Rogue works. Simon would be either Cleric, just to make him a doctor, but i assume there is better classes for him out there. Well, there is the Healer class from Minitures handbook. I think it would make sense to make him a halfling of house jorasco. Of course, if you did that you would have to make his sister a halfling too. If he goes cleric, it should be a cloistered cleric due to his complete inability to fight XD. Jayne is either fighter or barbarian, no matter what he is a half orc. /nods, Low int/wis recommended. Preacher should either be Cleric. I'm thinking Multi-class Cleric/Fighter or perhaps paladin (since he does seem to always be the one with a hard time coping with what they do). At least a very martial oriented cleric due to his skill in a fight. |
| kavuforged8612-13-07, 07:43 PM | Serenity herself would be an airship made of Living Wood with a Dryad attached to it. Shepard Book would be a Monk since they too find themselves sometimes following a God. plus it would explain his tacticle knowldge |
| Fabius Maximus12-13-07, 08:07 PM | I could imagine River as someone who escaped a secret Vadalis facility where they try to create super-humans (or super-halflings ;) ). |
| Shady31412-13-07, 08:19 PM | Serenity herself would be an airship made of Living Wood with a Dryad attached to it. Why? Serenity has never had a conciousness of any sort. It doesn't even have a computerized voice. Serenity would be an older model airship without any fancy bells or whistles beyond perhaps a supernatural ability to keep flying no matter how badly it might be in need of repair. ;) I've always thought River would be perfect as someone the Dreaming Dark attempted to mindseed but failed to take hold (she made her save). For plot reasons all the knowledge the Quori possessed that River now has, has wreaked havoc on what was already a fragile emotional state and driven her crazy. It fits in with the whole "these memories aren't mine thing" and gives a great explanation for a group (the DD) to be ruthlessly hunting her down. Perhaps a Kalashtar. Jayne is perfect as a half-orc barbarian but could also be a fantastic Warforged Barbarian. Obviously he's that Warforged struggling to find a purpose beyond combat which he loves. It explains his compulsion to smell and touch things and makes for a hilarious story regarding his name having chosen it before understanding the difference between boys and girls names and now very sensitive about it. Inara as a changeling is great though probably no one on the crew knows. Perhaps an agent for the Cabinet of Faces. Definitely spent time in the Firelight district in Sharn. Maybe she is a Passer. She'd be a Beguiler, or Wizard specializing in enchantment. Kaylee is a Human artificer and for flavor a foundling of House Cannith. Wash is an excoriate of House Lyrandar making him a half-elf. Simon is absolutely a cloistered cleric and if River is a Kalashtar so is he but I'd make it so their parents were a Kalashtar and a human thus one is a Kalashtar (If mom then River, if dad then Simon) and the other is human. Don't know who. Probably make River the Kalashtar. Zoe and Malcolm are human fighter/rogues with Zoe having a bit more in fighter. OR they could be Rangers. Mal probably having taken the archery path and Zoe the dual wield path. I might throw a level of magewright on them each to let them use wands. As PC types in the Last War the ability to read arcane scrolls and use wands would have been an invaluable skill anyone that anyone would learn if they could. Obviously they fought in the Last War probably for Cyre and with it's destruction we get the bitterness Mal needs. Making Mal an Artificer/Cannith Wand Adept could be awesome but makes his skill set quite different but when converting you want to keep the spirit not make everything EXACTLY the same. Shepherd Book is a Monk (LG obviously and he was always more spiritual than religious. "I don't care WHAT you believe just believe in something.") with some sort of mysterious past. Probably a link to an intelligence agency. He could be made Elven (Someone's gotta be an elf) and thus his connection is to Phiarlan or Thuranni. Or the Dark Lanterns, Royal Eyes etc. Obviously he played a role in the Last War that left him in spiritual crisis. As an Elf he can be very old (helps with the wisdom) and have gleaned a little bit of knowledge about everything. |
| skrap-san12-14-07, 02:14 AM | I might have to steal this idea for a campaign I'm starting up, only I'm going to make the captain of the ship take on the traits of Barbosa as he is portrayed in the last pirates movie. |
| Belkar12-14-07, 03:44 PM | Love this idea. Mal: Honestly... he's a consumate leader/fighter. Go with Marshal. Perhaps even Knight (he's a tough son of a gun...). Human. Perhaps with a Deneith mark (hidden... he ain't proud of it ;) ). Zoe: They talk about her slinking around the battlefield slitting throats... I say Scout. Maybe Ranger/Fighter. Jayne: Half-Orc Barbarian. Period! Kaylee: Gnome or Halfling Artificer. Not marked... just really talented. Inara: Changeling Rogue. All skills focuses into social areas - the face of the group. Wash: Love the idea of a Lyrandar half-elf who's been excoriated. Hides his mark... amazing pilot. River: Kalashar Psion (telepath). The Inspired "did something to her" - so not all her marbles are there. Daughter of a Kalashar mother and a Human father. Simon: Probably a Cloistered Cleric or Archivist. Needs to have little combat ability... Human brother of River. Shepherd Book: Monk/Cleric. Definitely a man running from his past... Then there's the ship, Serenity. Won by Mal in a poker game with a weathly merchant who liked to cheat at cards. Folk don't like the tables turned... so he got might hot when Mal beat him proper at his own game. He aimed to be killin' Mal, too, after that piece 'o joy. Had to shoot out of that one... Found a nice crew, fer 'round these parts. Keep the ship runnin', keeps us gettin' jobs. Keeps us flyin'. |
| naturax12-14-07, 05:11 PM | Maybe "Serenity" is the name of the bound fire elemental running the ship? |
| grifo12-14-07, 05:54 PM | I remember seeing a big thread about this a long while back, can't find it though. Anyway, here is how I see it:(the way i see it, the big bad guys would be the twelve) Mal - ExCyren human fighter, led a unit out of Cyre on the day of mourning, never really recovered. Zoe - ExCyren half elf scout, killer in the field, served with Mal(obviously). Kaylee - Human artificer from Sharn, grew up in the lower levels, self made artificer, nuts on airships. Inara - Ehengeling rouge or bugiler (sp), definitely from Sharn. Wash - Lyrandar excoriate, maybe an NPC class(?). River - Human psion, experimented by the twelve. Simon - Definetly some sort of healer, but I don't think cleric feats. Shepherd Book: Human monk/cleric, unmarked exDanieth, worked for the twelve (It explains his connections). |
| Belabras12-15-07, 12:38 PM | River is far more fighter than manifester, and she almost never does psionic attacks, mostly just read minds and kick butt. I say monk/psion with levels in the Mindspy PRC adapted to psionics. |
| Kinger12-15-07, 08:20 PM | I have to disagree on Inara. She hides nothing about being what she is. She is from a highly respected and high-profile organization, and freely mingles with the elite of society. She is definately best represented as a scion of Phiarlan, probably Bard and/or Dmarked Heir. Jayne being a half-orc fits better than a warforged, personally. The thing with Jayne was he's a brute, plain and simple. He's no soldier ("Don't look at me, I didn't fight in no war"), and is proudly backwater. There aren't many backwater non-soldier warforged. You probably won't call him "Jayne" in the game, but something similarly feminine ("Mabel?" Nah.) could be explained as a poor translation from Orc. Zoe is more Ranger/Rogue than Scout, I think, simply from a mechanics perspective. Scouts are hit-and-runners, rather than sneak-and-stabbers. The ranger levels are to balance out the fact that she is, for all intents and purposes, a bad-ass. And I have to say "Serenity" is a pretty ironic name for a fire elemental. :) |

News to me =p That said, I think Zoe is more of a high dex fighter then rogue/ranger/scout. Although I could see her being that rogue variant that loses sneak attack and gains fighter feats. As to Serenity being an odd name for an airship with a fire elemental, perhaps it is an Air Elemental instead? |
| Shady31412-16-07, 05:51 PM | Serenity absolutely cannot have an air elemental instead of a fire elemental. This should be obvious. |
| Rauric12-17-07, 12:13 PM | I used Hostel for inspiration in my last adventure. Daask set up a place in the lower areas of Sharn where the rich could do bad things with enough money. Daask was also supplying the clients with tainted Dreamlilly. If a person ODs on it they come back as a special Undead like in Ravenlof where they can spread a UD plague. So that part of the adventure will play out like 28 days later but in Sharn. It is a two for run storyline ripoff! ;) The PCs have only gotten through the Hostel part. EB is great for using cinema as inspiration I think. What are other movie ideas have people used to write an EB adventure? or should I just make a new thread about this subject? |
| Rauric12-17-07, 12:14 PM | Reavers are found in Sharn right? In the Fallen District. |
| skrap-san12-17-07, 05:57 PM | Reavers are found in Sharn right? In the Fallen District. Yes, there is even an adventure based in that section that was released in Dungeon. |
| Lord Welkerfan12-17-07, 10:52 PM | Remember that the Tams were from a very respected family. I think that they should definitely be runaway halflings from House Jorasco. Simon is marked, but River is not. River is a psychic warrior, I think, or possibly a Society Mind from Untapped Potential. |
| Rauric12-21-07, 09:19 AM | Yes, there is even an adventure based in that section that was released in Dungeon. Ohhh. I missed that one. |
