Basically, for those that don't have the awesome fluff book, a Flashback Campaign is where, while studying, researching or having a "flashback," the game shifts gears and the PCs play different "characters" to flesh out and actually play the flashback. For example, if the PCs are researching a particular battle, instead of just reading off some boring minutia details about the battle, the PCs would "play" as important characters in the battle and the session (or however long it takes) is dedicated to playing the battle to find out what happened. Sounds really fun. Has anyone had experience doing this, particularly in a campaign featuring a lot about the Last War? How'd it go? If you guys haven't tried this, at any level, what do you think would be important to make it work and be fun, for all? I'm really interested in trying this method out. My current campaign has a lot to do with the Mourning and Cyre, and the PCs are all afflicted with an amnesia-like condition where they can't remember how they ended up in Dreadhold (where the campaign starts). I'd like them to start "remembering" these details through the use of flashbacks. Not all at once, of course, but a step-by-step process throughout the entire campaign. |

The dm decided that it was the easiest way of getting us to remmeber what happened. and thus came up with the method.. it was good fun and well remembered.. I think your idea would be a great asset to the characters.. to helo them remember there past |

I'd keep a sessions worth of material ready for both the "real" events and the "flashback events" allowing me to fill out time, if my players manage to blindside me and bypass what I thought would've taken much longer time. Or simply ask at the start of the session which campaign they'd like to try today |
