Fleshing Out the Fringe Nations of Khorvaire (THE VOTES ARE IN) and counted "Finally" [Archive] - Wizards Community

The purpose of this thread is just as its title denotes; an endeavor to flesh out the Fringe Nations of Khorvaire that we love the most. Since I have come to these boards I have noted a number of instances where material other than what WotC was publishing was desired. This is an effort to develop that desired material.

I will provide below a survey. The purpose of this survey is to define the Fringe Nations that we would most like to see developed.

Once this is accomplished I will take the top 3 choices and create threads to begin their Board Community Development. I want to encourage at this stage and the next ;( i.e. The Survey, and then the actual development) FULL COMMUNITY participation, this includes our beloved author Mr. Keith Baker. ;)

The Survey :

Please rate on a scale of 1 to 4 ;( 1 being the least, and 4 being the greatest) the part of Khorvaire that you would like the Board Community to develop. Also state what you would like to contribute to that particular fringe Nations development. The entry's are as follows. As you will note we are defining the Fringe Nations only.

Darguun

Droamm

Eldeen Reaches

Lhazzar Principalities

Mror Holds

Qbarra

Shadow Marches

Talenta Plains

Thronehold (I know this is not (really) a Nation but I think it would still be cool to develop.)

Valenar

Zilargo

Please be concise, to the point, and please stay on topic. This survey will be valid until 7/9/07 at which point I will tally the votes and create the threads for the Top 3 picks.

Please use the list format above for your Survey submission and place your rating for that area one space to the right of the areas name.

I will give further instructions on submission formats once the 3 picks are up and running. Following the completion of the initial 3, I will move to the next 3, so forth and so on until all of the above places have been fleshed out to one degree or another on the Boards.

I will be looking for volunteers to compile the info submitted for a Wiki. If you are interested in helping compile and create the Wiki please say so in your survey submission.

Let the Game Begin!

Sorry Garner :embarrass , when I put this thread up I didnt have my books with me, didnt mean to miss it. The Mror Holds have been added.

If anyone is interested in the Mror Holds please edit your post at this time.:)

Darguun 2 (I'm very interested in this nation, make no mistake, but in my opinion, canon and these boards have granted it more than enough info.)

Droaam 4 (I'd love to see this nation fleshed out, and definitely will be contributing with ideas and thoughts, should this one be among the winners.)

Eldeen Reaches 1 (This nation has been granted more than enough love, but fundamentally, I just find this region unexciting and boring.)

Lhazaar Principalities 2 (Not really that interested in the Principalities, but I definitely think it has been given too little love.)

Mror Holds 4 (Uuuh! Dwarves! Intrigue! Gief! - one of my favourite "fringe nations".)

Q'barra 4 (Again, a nation that has been given very little text.)

Shadow Marches 3 (Having read the Dragon Below Trilogy, I can't help but find the Marches interesting, and a closer look on this region would promise much fun, I'm sure.)

Talenta Plains 1 (Just like the Eldeen Reaches, I find this nation pretty dull, and I don't think it has much more to offer than what we already know about it.)

Thronehold/Throneport 2 (Well, the FoW gave a pretty elaborate description on this one, but sure, why not?)

Valenar 2 (War-happy elves? Sure)

Zilargo 1 (This nation is kinda in the process of being fleshed out, so a vote for this one, would just move the existing thread elsewhere e.i. I don't see any reason to vote for this one.)

I have felt the same, to the point where any interactions that the group I am playing with would only see they areas needed to run an encounter similar to the one in the explorers handbook. Although I have not had a chance to run it yet, I have been hoping for a thread to start so I could gain some idea of other peoples concepts of the island Aerenal. (pardon the rambling)

I just love the monster races. I love how they are not just wandering tribes to kill. But I'm sure in the follow up to 5 Nations they will be fleshed out more. Wouldnt surprise me if it is split into two books tho. 1 for the eastern half and one for the western.

Part of the problem with the Talenta Plains is that there are not enough statted dinosaurs, especially large or smaller dinosaurs, to make up a really interesting ecology.

That being said, I think for now, my vote is for the Talenta Plains. I suppose I might change my mind though, and then change it again after that, and again after that.

While I think that the Madwood had some pretty cool Aerenal specific bits and pieces, you're right that its largely not a tourist spot for adventurers. I'm sure the Elves like it that way though, you know, privacy is important.

I'd pop over and read Keith's Dragonshards on the Elves of Aerenal, I found some very cool stuff in there. Aside from that its one of the oldest and most well structured governments in Eberron, maybe its just not a site of high adventure =/

We already have a No love for Goblins and Gnomes. So Darguun and Zilargo are already in the process of creation.

Darguun 3. I would love to help flesh out the past portions of the Dhakaani nations to give a bit more history to the goblin nations

Droamm 1. Bleh.

Eldeen Reaches 1. Bleh.

Lhazzar Principalities 4. Pirates? 'Nuff said. I think we could split up each "island" already not defined and flesh out each "principality."

Mror Holds 2. Dwarves are lame.

Qbarra 3. I would just like to see portions on the Lizardfolk of Eberron, especially the newer ones, blackscale and poisondusk.

Shadow Marches 3. Fleshing out ancient ruins that date back to the Xoriat invasion by the daelkyr would be a lot of fun, as well as nailing down the various orc clans and druidic orders.

Talenta Plains 3. Dinosaurs? 'Nuff said.

Thronehold 1. This has already been done in the recent Forge of War supplement.

Valenar 2. Seeing how the elven nation changed when it moved to Khorvaire from Aerenal could be fun.

Zilargo 2. Gnomes? Bleh. I'd just like to see more info on the binding of elementals process.

Darguun 3
Call me biased, but I love the Goblin Nation and could always go for more. However, it is less pressing than other nations.
Droamm 3
By its nature as a true monster nation, Droamm needs more attention than it has gotten so far.
Eldeen Reaches 2
I feel there's already a decent amount of info on the Eldeen Reaches in the current books. Plus it's an easy sort of area to flesh out on your own.
Lhazzar Principalities 2
The Dragonshards really helped this area. Plus it's pirates. Do you really need help making up stuff about pirates? The answer is no. No you do not.
Mror Holds 4
My number one choice. Lots of potential in many areas given the nature of Eberron dwarves.
Qbarra 3
Large void of details here. We have the ECS entry, a bit in Explorer's and...that's all?
Shadow Marches 4
Given the history of the area (Gatekeepers and such), and House Tharsk, it defiantly needs more fleshing out.
Talenta Plains 1
Dinosaurs+Halflings, a combination of awesome. All you need to know.
Thronehold 1
Small enough to be fleshed out by a DM on their own.
Valenar 3
I'd like to think the Valenar are a bit more complicated than a bunch of warrior clans.
Zilargo 1
The Trust believes we know enough already.

I would say "Fleshing out X nation", because both of the "No love for the..." threads are focused on the race first then the nation. If the thread was entitled "Fleshing out X nation" then there could be a development of the country first and then fill in details on the inhabiting races.

You're welcomed.

Well, I've been reading alot lately, on multiple topics, so I am quite eager to developp other aspects of my campaign that won't necessary be seen by my players.

It seems that I have missed the boat for the "No Love" threads, so I don't want to miss this one.

I've been reading on Q'Barra (because of the thread) and writing notes on things I would like to see developp.

Oh, and you are right about the Eberron General getting more people into it then Poeple and Places. However, I think we'd have a better development quality on the P&P. And since this thread is in the Eberron General section, poeple that reads it will know that the other threads will be on P&P, so the interested ones will fallow us over there ;)

THE VOTES ARE IN!!!!!!!

(I know, they have been for some time) :embarrass

Sorry it took so long guys/gals. There have been things which I stated in my previous post that have kept me away. Again I apologize.

The good news is that the pending engagement that I spoke about in my previous post is now quite the actuality. Again God willing I will propose to my girlfriend of nearly 4 years this weekend, 8/11/07.

It will be done in a park with a Celtic theme. I am hiring a Celtic Folk Harpist to come and play chamber music type tunes for the setting. We will have lunch with our closest friends thereafter, and shortly after lunch we will join friends and family for a surprise party back at her place.

As it is now, and I pray that it won’t change, she is clueless. So this time next week I will be an engaged man WHOA!!!!:w00t: :cheer:  :dancin: :bounce: :cloud9: :ayyyy!:

All my wishes for you and your future wife.

As for the frame. I suggest to look out in the Five Nations book. You have a general format for the surviving four nations, the one for Cyre/Mourland being a bit modified, more fit to how to adventure and survive in the wasteland.

I shall quote ECS: "CONSIDER THE IMPACT OF HISTORY" on what the nation of today are. Dhakaan ruins, Sarlonan colonist's ruins, Galifar ruins, etc.

Eberron was all for breaking the stereotypes. The fringe nations got labelled. Lhazaar pirates, Talenta barbarians, Droaam chaotic hordes of monsters, etc.

The Lhazaar Principalities are more than just pirates. Q'barra is more than half-fiend lizardfolks. Droaam is more than just monsters.

There are groups and organization in this world that may have great influence in some regions. In example, I suppose Vol has her own in the Principalities.

Spring from what the ECS said.

Sounds like a truly unique proposal:D :D I hope you both have loads of great times in the future.

In terms of frame work:

As Rekko said, there is more happening in the fringe nations then its stereotype. So you could have concepts as to towns, groups, creatures that people have already inserted into there game as the basis of each fringe nation.

Developing a history of each land dating back to before the humans arrived or earlier.

Given how old the cultures are and the empires they forged you could also have information on the interrelations between various different groups that normally would never be linked.
