What is it that could be happening inside the House, or what could these stars of the House have done, to be forced to retire? Alternatively, what could be the cause of so many House celebs retiring at once if it's not out of force?

What is it that could be happening inside the House, or what could these stars of the House have done, to be forced to retire? 1) They could be so popular that they are overshadowing the house to the point of existing as an independent faction with no responsibilities to the house. 2) Conversely the musicians could be in the limelight and unable to conduct secret services for the house. There "retirement" could be a way around this problem. Alternatively, what could be the cause of so many House celebs retiring at once if it's not out of force? It could be that the House has a very important mission to accomplish and the dramatic exit of musicians could be a cover for them.(especially if they seem to be having problems with the house) This could lead to "the people" the house is going after getting in contact with the musicians and try to get them to work for them.

That's a possibility. Although, I would think that the House would operate somewhat like a modern day record company. "You are Ours. We take a percentage of your earning. Anyone who wants to book you goes through us." Though if they then decided to Denounce their allegiance to the House, then they could go on as solo acts, which would be dangerous to the House's profits. However, what is stopping them from doing this in the first place? Do you think that the House would have contingency plans for this? Phairlan doesn't appear to be the ruthless House; I don't think they'd break someone's leg for leaving, but I also believe there would be some sort of repercussions. 2) Conversely the musicians could be in the limelight and unable to conduct secret services for the house. Send in one of the big guns. Although I do see your point, that the musicians themselves Couldn't do the intel gathering, it wouldn't stop anyone riding along with them to do it. It could be that the House has a very important mission to accomplish and the dramatic exit of musicians could be a cover for them.(especially if they seem to be having problems with the house) This could lead to "the people" the house is going after getting in contact with the musicians and try to get them to work for them. To use crude terminology, do you mean a separate music label or talent agency would swallow them up, and the musicians would then infiltrate it?

I think the only thing stopping musicians from leaving the house and "forming their own label" is that they have loyalty to the house above their own jobs. Infinite farewell concert tours and a couple of "triumphant returns" with a little mix of solo acts and reunions. That's for the future. In the present they create a false demand so that new, lesser known musicians can command a top dollar premium, generate free publicity and attach to themselves an air of elite status and generate some fame for their younger less famous talent. The final songs were a beautiful PR touch to generate a whiff of scandalous gossip. :D It's not the spy biz. It's just the entertainment biz. Much sleazier.

These musicians have a big public split and suddenly other parties are interested in them, which is just what the masters of House Phiarlan want for whatever reason.

Shady314 08-01-07, 04:19 AM	A man can dream!,can't he? It's not a bad twist if I do say so myself. I'm incredibly biased though. I certainly think most PCs won't expect it. I don't like EVERY newspaper story to lead to an enormous, dark conspiracy. :D
