| Eksem09-30-05, 10:24 AM | I just played through The Forgotten Forge (which also was my first D&D game ever, though I have played pen and paper RPGs for ten years) and the PCs recovered the schema. They did not return it however, they have a different plan for it. They want to make a copy/forgery of it and try to cash in as much as possible from both the two Cannith houses and perhaps Lord of the Blades. Interesting enough (it would add a lot of fun to Shadows of the Last War, no?), but i'm not sure if it should be possible to make a believable copy, or how they would go about making it if it would. Any ideas? |

Interpreting the detail in the schema requires a trained dragonmarked member of House Cannith, and access to a creation forge of a suitable type to read the schema. Creating a forgery of the schema, one which would fool the naked eye but be detected as non-working as soon as placed within a creation forge, would be possible by an artificer with Craft Wondrous Item, requiring a Use Magic device check at somewhere around DC 30. The crafter would still need to supply materials equal in value to half the item's market value, which I'd put at no less than 1,000 gp - and possibly a great deal more, depending on what the schema ultimately builds. To get the look of the item correct, he'll also need to make a Forgery check, which will be opposed by the Forgery check of anyone who examines the item. |

Any ideas? Assuming that the PCs are 1st/2nd level, I think this is well beyond their capabilities. They might be able to create a copy which would fool a minion of the Lord of Blades, but I don't think they're going to be able to fool a member of House Cannith. And the lord of blades initial thought will be to kill them once they give up the schema and House Cannith is already hunting them for not coming through with the original items. I'd put their life expectancy in terms of days. Low level adventurers do not fare well when the resources of a dragon mark house are set loose on them. Ed |
| Galahad_Knight09-30-05, 04:50 PM | I'd agree witht he others. While making a copy schema is possible In Shadows of the Last War, Canith artificers made a copy of the second schema. But they had a lot of resources, a lot of time, a lot of knowledge about the schemas in general, and higher level artificers it would be well beynd the capabilities of a party of low level adventurers, and even if they could, it wouldn't be a good idea. As mentioned, the LoBster isn't a plesant fellow, even if they had any idea how to contact him. Unless everyone in the party are warforged, he'd probably kill them once they hand it over and take the money back. As far as defrauding house Cannith goes... As noted, it would be extremely difficult to forge a convincing copy of a schema, especially considering how much scrutiny and study they;d be subjecting it to (even if they thought it was real at first) and once they find out, do you really want one of the most wealthy and influential groups on the continent ****** off at you? |
| DoveArrow09-30-05, 05:27 PM | Dude, especially when it's the House Cannith. That's like paying the Mafia with counterfeit bills. You just don't go there. |
| Eksem10-01-05, 01:18 AM | So... what you're saying is basically that I should let them try and then fail miserably? Seems right :) Thanks a bunch. |
| Galahad_Knight10-01-05, 02:44 AM | LOL, I can see it now. "Uh, here's your thing. Can I have my money now?" "This is just a diamond-shaped piece of cardboard with 'Skeema' written on it...and it's mispelled." |
