| CelestialBarbarian05-04-05, 07:01 PM | I've just started running "The Forgotten Forge" adventure from Eberron Campaign Setting. The first section of the adventure contains an encounter with the city watch, listed as EL 5. What criteria have people used to award experience for the encounter? Does the party get experience just for avoiding jail, or does the party have to impress Sergeant Dolom (Diplomacy check 25 or higher)? Does anyone give partial experience for avoiding jail but failing to impress Dolom? Thanks! :) |

I found the relevant question, but that still does't answer my question regarding how much, if any experience to award for the encounter if the party remains out of jail but doesn't impress Dolom. How have people been handling it? Thanks. :) |

| Vharuck05-05-05, 02:30 AM | Probably experience for a CR 1 encounter would be fine. Depends on how hard they make it. |
| Salla05-05-05, 09:20 PM | I'm planning a story award of 75XP per character level (meaning, well, 75) for having brains enough not to mix it up with the watch. ;) |

Its hard to adjudicate Xp for the social aspects of the game so I reward players for less combat by giving full XP if they can resolve a situation without combat. Also giving a party of 4 the xp form that encounter places them at that 2nd at the end of the adventure and ready for SotLW. Thats just my :twocents: I think there were at least 3 DM who had their players finish SotLW with Bluff checks on the final encounter(were talking skill rogues maxed out that rolled 18 to 20). Should the PCs get any less XP for Bluffing past a combat? No they should get full XP for overcoming the challenge. Say the PCs really mess up the encounter with the Guards they would fail the encounter(no XP) and get placed in Jail. Again thats my :twocents: |
