| Kayman04-12-05, 03:03 AM | hi! i would like to start an eberron game, but i want to keep the old player characters of the group im dming (from the FR setting).well actually i want to lead them out of the world they are at the moment, for whatever reason. now i got the impression that eberron and FR are very different. Would it be a very bad idea to lead my group to eberron, or do you think thats possible? has anybody got experience with something like that? thank you for any advice! |

Would it be a very bad idea to lead my group to eberron, or do you think thats possible? has anybody got experience with something like that? thank you for any advice! Its not a bad idea if the players are extremely attached to the characters, but you should encourage them to take advantage of the Eberron specific things such as the races, or dragonmarks. For example, some poor old schmuck from the royal family of Evermeet can't take the Mark of Shadow since he doesn't belong to the correct family, nor can any goofy old defender of Mithral Hall take the Mark of Warding for the same reason. If you're just going as a side trip knock yourself out, but I think you lose something of Eberron if you don't start out at first level and come it at the ground floor. Doing so lets you not only become attached to the new characters, but also the setting as whole (provided the players like it). The other big thing with coming in at first level is that you get to experience Eberron as it was meant to be: a low level campaign world where the characters grow into the most powerful people in the world. Well thats enough from me. Happy gaming, and as always your mileage may vary. |
| James Silverleaf04-12-05, 04:51 AM | I have experience with this transaction you speak of. In a group where i played a couple of month ago, our DM decided to let us take a trip to eberron. It started out with a character from eberron, that was teleported to FR by the wizards of arcanix, because there were rumors about a creation forge had ben transported to FR. This character then transported the whole party to eberron, for some kind of recon mission. This was a good idea, then the PCs had someone who knew this new world, and therefore they could get around easier. An the fact that we where all low level (2-3), made it perfect. a low level group in a new world. Later we were transported back to FR, because we had to find the forge. |

| DarkWarriorKarg04-12-05, 06:41 AM | Things to remember: Reactions of the leaders: - Who are these guys and why have we never heard of them before? Some PrCs might not apply (divine disciple comes to mind). Clerics would not lose their spells. Beliefe would be enough to sustain them. |
| Chiba_Monkey04-12-05, 07:01 AM | I toyed with the idea of ending my last campaign that way. PC's destroy evil artifact, the resulting explosion engulfs them all. In Eberron, a group of adventurers in the Mournland is trying to get an Eldritch Machine working, one that was destroyed in the Mourning. When they turn it on, there is a small explosion and six people come tumbling out of the previously emptied machine (the PCs). PCs: Where are we? Eberron guys: You're in the Mournland, the corpse of the jewel of the kingdom of Galifar. Welcome to the Dragon Between, outsiders, Welcome to Eberron. Muhuahahahahahahahaha. :evillaugh |
| polt04-12-05, 07:29 AM | In my mind, i would never do something like this. Forgotton Realm is one setting, Eberron is another. They are not connected in any way! Of course, if you want to do it, you could connect the Underdark and Khyber to eachother. |
| Crimsonsun04-12-05, 07:58 AM | IMO, this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5861030&postcount=11) is the only proper way to introduce FR characters to Eberron  |

| Mula04-12-05, 08:42 AM | I think the most official stand on this kind of thing is traveling through the plane of shadow. Apparently, each world's plane of shadow connects to each other, although you'd have to take a trip through the deepest realms of the plane, something that could be very dangerous. Obviously, like pretty much everything else, this is optional. |

Obviously, like pretty much everything else, this is optional. I tend to agree with Mula's notion about the Plane of Shadow, but actually you've got a few options. 1. Use the Plane of Shadow as a conduit to the Eberron cosmology, and then have something wacky happen via a Manifest Zone that gets them on the planet. 2. Go the "Perilous Gateways" style from the FR article and set up a keyed portal that goes from Faerun to Eberron. Don't worry about explaining how it got there, as that's what in-game speculation is for. 3. The easiest way is to just incorporate the city of Sigil from the Planescape setting. Sigil is the city that is everywhere and nowhere at all, so it's easy to conjecture that Sigil would have a portal that led to Eberron without actually being a part of the Eberron cosmology. If it were me, I'd just use Eberron characters, as IMO, your players will be missing out on the flavor of the world if they aren't using the various races & classes that are native to the setting. If you think your players will get the most fun by using their FR characters, then by all means use them. |

No, not really. I only think that it could be good roleplaying for your PCs, to come to a new world, where the autorities REALLY wants to talk to them, and find out who they are. You should also keep in mind, that everyone in this world will be stunned by the might of the PCs, even the great heroes would be suprised, that someone they had never heard of would wield such great power. Another thing is the evil organisations, the PCs don't know whats good and evil in this world. Maybe some of the dragons have noticed the arrival of someone (the PCs) in eberron of great power. (according to eberron standards) Its all up to you, but you should keep in mind, that the PCs don't know ANYTHING about eberron, and eberron don't know ANYTHING about the PCs. |

I wouldn't go so far as to say they have "great power". That would be later (levels 14+ IMO). But, it would be more like dropping elite mercenary commandos on the unsuspecting kingdoms. There simply aren't that many groups like that. |

Well, I would tell my players to MAKE UP NEW CHARACTERS. But if you want to let them keep their own characters, just say. "Okey, we now play in eberron with your characters, but there's no story behind it. The characters have never heard of the FR and FR doesn't exist, and this is Eberron. But you have the same characters, same stats, play them the same way, same name, all that jazz" |
| Sean Et Cetera04-12-05, 10:28 AM | Maybe some of the dragons have noticed the arrival of someone (the PCs) in eberron of great power. (according to eberron standards) And they may be concerned about how they will affect the Prophecy. |
