PCs have an epic rescue to save Jaela from taking Mialeese's place in Dreadhold, etc, but the fact remains there's a 21st lv cleric ruling Thrane now, and her priority number one is to free her master, sealed deep beneath Flamekeep itself. Of course this plan has been in the works for over 500 years...the Rajah sealed within the flame chose her as a blood descendant of Tira Miron, and knew only she would be able to do what must be done...but it was far too early, Thrane would not be conquered by her then...not until she had sat in stone for 500 years, as events inthe world changed...and now the time is ripe to free her lord. So, whats she gotta do? :p This is one of those 'would be a great kick start to epic-advancing campaign' if the PCs fail, or an exceptional climax if they stop her...but I have to think of some long drawn out things she and her minions would have to do, first... |

Khyber Dragonshards in particular could extract this fiend from it's prison, then be broken and the fiend released. But where to find such a dragonshard? I'd aim for the Madstone in Karnarrath - big, freaky, surrounded by natural monsters as well as Mirron's cultists. The PCs risk life, limb and sanity trying to stop this big ass evil rock being extracted. Well, perhaps the PCs save the madstone (um, yay?), but the cultists made off with a shard. They need to grow it to extract the fiend, so they begin kidnapping people and absorbing them into the shard to increase the size. Maybe they need certain kinds of people for maximum growth? Not just commoners, but certain people with heroic spirits (anyone with an action point resovoire, for instaince, determinable through scrying effects). The PCs or a friendly NPC might be kidnapped and tried to be sacrificed to the Madstone Shard. The PCs may escape and devistate the cult, but they've perhaps ended up with enough spirit energy to get the Madstone shard sized up a bit. They decide to suck through part of the Rajah's essence, and do the rest later - so he's only got a sliver of his power, but is still a level 18 sorcerer or something. He begins directing the attacks, and using magic to stamp out paladins and resistaince in Flamekeep. More of his power is channeled through every day, but this pace is definately annoying him, and he orders an attack to regain some powerful relic that could accellerate the process. The item is liberated by the PCs and they discover that it could be used in reverse to halt the process - this could be, say, a lizardfolk or draconic staff from Q'barra. So the PCs have to storm Flamekeep, use the item to halt the growth of the Rajah's power (and Mirron's connection to the Black Flame), and then have a tough-as-nails fight against the two of them - without their godly powers, but still deadly. Of course, if they fail then the Rajah gets the item and brings about a new age of terror, ect, ect. It all hangs in the balance! :) |

I'm assuming the dragonhound and her loyalists wouldn't let her die, so perhaps, in an ironic twist, Jaela's been shipped off to Dreadhold? Freeing her might be an important element in restoring the balance - maybe, after being freed, the rajah decides his immediate ascension is far more important than public opinion, and he recalls Jaela from Dreadhold to have her sacrificed in some horrible ceremony? The PCs can liberate her early, or try to do so in the middle of the ceremony - when she becomes much, much more powerful if freed. |

Thats one of the things gonna happen...i'm already working out an encounter where the PCs have to chase down an airship manned by Rakshasa guards disguised as silver flame paladins, keeping tabs on the now petrified Jaela...they'll have to leap from airship to airship, get a statue, and get back ON their own ship without breaking her while being pursued by the 'Silver Flame'. |

And that's an interesting thought - perhaps there cold be a clash between Mirron and the Rajah - the Rajah wants to acend as fast as possible, publicly and openly, while Mirron prefers to keep the people of Thrane loyal to her through diplomacy. Perhaps they'd be unable to bring their full recources to bear on problems (the PCs) because Mirron wants the Rajah's acention to be secret, and then attack when he's released - while the Rajah wants to attack now, be released mid-way through the attack, and mop up the survivors. Perhaps Mirron controls a Thranish newspaper? The PCs would either be delighted or devistated to see them being printed as "Enemies of the State" and "Karnarrath Terrorists" :) |
| Just another user07-21-06, 05:57 AM | I had this idea that the binded raja get stronger when innocent people are killed in the name of the flame (that would explain its interference in things like the lycanthrope purge, for example) starting from this I see Miron starting a "cleansing" of the silver flame church beginning with simple and even condivisible thing (punishment of corrupted priests, etc) to quickly escalate to a veritable witch hunt, persecution of arcane magic user, razing of non silver flame temple, imprisonment (or worse) for followers of other religion until to arrive to summary execution of followers of the flame for the most venial sins, either true or invented. I rather see something like that than a standard "find item X" or "stop the enemy to find item X". I would not be sure how the PCs could stop her if she go that way, but that's their problem, not mine ;) |
