07-28-06, 01:08 AM If a warforged escapes from Karrnath or Thrane into Breland or Aundair, is it home free, or will the Brelish and Aundairan authorities attempt to return it to its indenture in Karrnath or Thrane to maintain good relations with their neighbors?

07-28-06, 07:51 AM Nope, Thrane and Karrnath still treat them as "indentured servants" paying them coppers a day for hard labor. I have no idea how much House Cannith charged for a standard body Warforged Fighter 2 (the most common "make and model," as it were) back before 996, but I imagine it was rather a lot of cp. The 'forged in those nations aren't free until they've paid back their own purchase price to the respective government.

I imagine those that choose to stick with their military roles are paid better but I doubt they're paid fairly relative to the other soldiers. Warforged Paladins of the Silver Flame don't get the same respect from Thranish conservatives that their peers do. And well, Kaius is a fascist, so warforged civil liberties is the least of Karrnath's problems when no one has civil liberties and it's all martial law, all the time.

There's still some serious "warforged civil rights" issues left to fight in Khorvaire, and Bulwark isn't around to fight them so that leaves only the terrorist Lord of Blades.

To answer your question, Boranel would tell the Thranes to shove it up their... Well, you get the point. Boranel is the one that hammered for Warforged independance and actually emancipated them Lincoln style 10 years before the Thronehold Treaty. Breland would not treat them as fugitives, they would make them citizens.

As for Queen Aurala and Aundair, she's less of a crusader - though Warforged are treated better in Aundair than anywhere else outside of Breland. It really depends on the political climate, but remember that Aurala is something of a warmonger (a NG warmonger with a LE pacifist on her borders). She knows that since Kaius sued so hard for peace he'd be terribly unlikely to enforce any demands to return runaway warforged. And Aundair has no love lost for Thrane either - she might toy with them "Why certainly I'll sign this extradition treaty... just as soon as you end your occupation of Thaliost."

At any rate, I don't see either nation sending the 'forged back. A newer nation just recognized by the Thronehold Treaty might do so, however, to curry favor with Kaius.

07-28-06, 10:59 AM I think it would be a lot of bother to track down a warforged "indentured servant". Does the "owner" keep pictures of their ghulra or something?

07-28-06, 11:21 AM Well, some slave owners used to be very particular to their "property" back in the 1800's and would send people to track down escaped slaves. I could see a full fledged plot comming out of the idea of a overprotective owner sending several rangers in search of this escaped Warforged. It could easily delve into a nice political plot as well as the two sides get into legal battles thanks to the Treaty that was signed setting the forged free.

Unless the WF has committed a crime worthy of attracting a Sentinel Marshal, the odds of the "owner" legally re-acquiring the WF are rather slim.

Bringing someone back to slavery, legal or not, is NOT paladin-like behaviour.

House Tharashk -derived businesses might do so, but those actions may be illegal.

Paladin? Bah, that is to extreme for this. I would imagine that if such an "owner" wanted his warforged back that badly he would send bounty hunters or mercenaries. A couple of Gnoll Mercs from Droaam would do nicely here. Maybe a few of the darker individuals that wander around Thrane or Karrnath. Or, even the PC's on their first quest. Hey, I have seen multi year campaigns explode from humbler beginnings than this.
