| Uratoh04-09-06, 08:15 PM | Due to a teleport misability, my PCs are now in what I call the 'Fortress of Flesh'. It's essentially a gigantic living creature, walls have no hardness, but Regen/Byshek. In the fortress, they need to get to its 'brain' which will let them figure out a way home. It's essentially a computer...it has no intelligence, but stores vast ammounts of information. I'm debating what kinds of 'guards' might be found within...how much damage the walls can take from colatteral spells/round before i need balance checks, etc...There will be a 'boss' fight with a CR 12 Kyton, I just really need to freak them the hell out but not take TOO long. |
| Ellorin04-10-06, 07:21 AM | Here's an idea; It's an abandoned Illithid colony, taken over by rampant devils The Computer was an elder brain.Concentrate on traps and constructs. |
| prototype0004-10-06, 07:33 AM | Brain golems, intellect devourers and random symbiote wearing abberations seem pretty appropriate. prototype00 |
| Korhal_IV04-10-06, 09:10 PM | Use a lot of oozes! They just slither through the "veins" of the fortress-beast. You could probably vary the description of shambling mounds and similar things to sound more like seething biological masses. |
| Esgay04-11-06, 12:30 PM | If they're essentially inside a giant body then there should be some kind of antibodies, most likely randomly patrolling swarms of something or oozes. Or a swarm of oozes if you want to be evil. |
| Kreistor104-11-06, 01:00 PM | Brain usually means Illithid. A computer has users, and they would be the most appropriate. I'd replace the Kyton with something nasty out of Lords of Madness, unless the Kyton were an Ally. A place like this really stinks of Daelkyr, not Lords of Dust. I don't say this often, but I like this one. I'll probably use it myself someday in the far flung future. |
| Phantomcrossing04-11-06, 07:58 PM | Actually, one of the Flavor Texted Daelkyr has an organic living fortress on the move in Khyber, I can't remember what though. I know there are Seven Daelkyr in Khyber, four or so are normal Daelkyre as described in the ECS, while three are something more. There is the Lord of Eyes who is big into Beholders, another lord of skin and I don't know the third. Either skin or the third one, not sure which, cavorts around Khyber in a creature much like the one you're players are inside of. This brings up the denizens of khyber quite nicely. I would further give the creature acid resistance and maybe have a few wandering oozes. Pending on your party's level there should be a big bad somewhere. I would suggest an illithid if they are still just below it's CR for the big bad fight. If they are higher level, I would go so far as to use an Ullrathid or some type of Beholder. Maybe have a few Daelkyr halfbloods running about the place (Magic of Eberron) If they have reached 18, 19, or 20 and there are more than four of them....I'd say give them a Daelkyr as listed in the ECS. Something else to consider, where underground are they now. Khyber spans the world, and if they are underground near the Demon Wastes, there is some kind of combat going on outside (the Daelkyr and the Lords of Dust hate the crap out of each other) or if they are near or in Xen'drik, a raiding party of Umbragen (a drow variant which lives in Khyber, favored class Warlock) is trying to lay the smackdown upon this vehicle which is obviously a tool of the abberations they are at constant war with. |
