dndanmachines 11-23-06, 11:03 AM	I have a few questions about the Gatekeepers' history. On page 36 in ECS under Druids, it says that a Vvaarak, a BLACK dragon, taught orcs how to close planar gates and prepare for planar invasions. Then, on page 241, under The Gatekeepers, it says that Vvaarak, a GREEN dragon, had trained the first Gatekeepers. In a paragraph below that, it says the students of Khaarak closed the planar gate and stopped the invasion from Xoriat. My questions are: 1.Was the dragon's name Vvaarak or Khaarak, and was she green or black? 2.Is she still alive? 3.Did she have offspring? 4.Is she a deity of the Gatekeepers? Also, I mail ordered a copy of Five Nations and it's on its way. Does this book have more details on the Gatekeepers?
DarkWarriorKarg 11-23-06, 11:19 AM	Vvaarak the Black Dead as a doornail. Would be amusing if it was corrupted and is now posing as the Keeper, in the form of a dracolich. Possibly. Perhaps Khaarak is a green/black crossbreed that took over, thus explaining away the typo... Not a deity, but probably is venerated as the founder of the order, the great teacher... basically, a Confucious-type.

Vvaarak is what occurs in virtually all other supplements, so Khaarak is probably a typo or something left over from a pre-release time. As for it's colour, it was a black. Barring any exceptional circumstances, she is dead. 15,000 years is long, even for a dragon... There is a mention of her lost lair in the Shadow Marches though (ECS p.201). 3.Did she have offspring? Nothing is said officially, as far as I know. 4.Is she a deity of the Gatekeepers? She is their teacher, a prophet, but not a deity. The Gatekeepers venerate nature (possibly Eberron it/her/himself), as all the druids do; but they most likely know that dragons are not gods. Some factions amongst the Serens might or might not venerate her as a deity, but again, nothing is said. Also, I mail ordered a copy of Five Nations and it's on its way. Does this book have more details on the Gatekeepers? Unfortunately not, as far as I remember. The Player's Guide to Eberron and Faiths of Eberron do have some bits, though.

dndanmachines 11-23-06, 11:42 AM	I imagine the Gatekeepers would have a tomb or cairn for her somewhere, probably in Khaarnath. A Dracolich-Vvaarak would make a powerful leader for the Khaarnathi undead, or the Daelkyr if they returned in force. The Gatekeepers and the Wardens of the Wood can join forces to destroy the dracolich, being a perversion of nature. It would definitely make an interesting campaign. I'm putting together an expanded background of the druidic sects in Eberron. I'm working on the Gatekeepers now, and I'll be doing the Wardens of the Wood next, followed by the Ashbound. I also want to write more about the Eldeen Wolves and the raids on the Wynarn River. I have "mini-campaign" going on around western Aundair, and I'd like to make a rich background for the enemies in that area. With all that in mind, I'm trying to see if there is already some material about the Eldeen Wolves and whether they're related to the Ashbound, or if they're just bitter at Aundair for abandoning them in the Last War.

This will really help, because I want to write a campaign that will eventually build up to another planar invasion from the Daelkyr. The PCs would have to travel all over Khorvaire to gather clues and the items necessary to stop the invasion. The Five nations will probably go to war again, and the dragons of Argonessen will have to intervene.

Picking the lint out thier scales??? meddling in the Giant/quori war, the giant/elf war, the dhakaani/daelkyr war and I have to imagine they had their talons into the last war somehow, the dragons are prob'ly getting a tad sick of babysitting. Although, having said that, I'm fairly certain I can pin the blame for the mourning on them if I think about it hard enough. Whether they actually did it isn't my concern, I'm certain I could blame them anyway.

Nobody has any trouble believing the scaly buggers would do it, so they'd be easy to pin it on.
