I need an opinion everyone. I was thinking of making my players use the Generic (http://d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/genericClasses.htm) classes. I feel this will allow for more flexibility on their part, but I am concerned if they will feel it is too much to do. So please give me your opinions.

If you want to use the generic classes because you want the players to have flexibility, the best thing you can do is to ask them if they want flexibility. In my experience, I know that as a DM, there have been plenty of times when I thought that my players would benefit from me forcing a certain rule into the game, but they wound up resenting both me and the rule because of it. Right now I'm running a fairly "vanilla" game without many house rules (from Unearthed Arcana or otherwise), and everyone seems pretty happy with that.

Additionally, since Generic Classes don't really mix well with core classes, I would explain to them that this is either something that EVERYONE uses, or no one uses. You could mix and match, but it's really not recommended, and could cause a great deal of headaches.

The important thing is that if you (as a DM) force players to do something that they don't want to do, your game (and possibly your relationships with your players) could suffer because of it. Save the unilateral decisions for when you really need to make them. :)

I think you lose alot of flavor with the generic classes. That and Arti is damned impossible to do with it.

That said I'd also disallow PRCs except in specific needed instances.

that and the Expert generic is horribly underpowered.

just my humble opinions though.

You will need to make new feats to take the place of the Artificers abilities. Also the spell selection of the Artificer will be odd. You will have to figure out a compromise between the Spellcaster and Artificer.

The Artificer turns into a multi-classed Expert Spellcaster as my best guess. With a few tweaks to bring Infusions into the castable list.
