Hi, Just to get an idea of the scale of the continent of Khorvaire, I dug up some numbers on the dimensions of the continents of our very own mudball: Earth. :whatsthis I find it gives a good idea of what we are dealing with in terms of size and distances, by providing known references. Areas of Earth continents (in square miles): Asia: 16 988 000 Africa: 11 506 000 North America: 9 390 000 South America: 6 795 000 Antarctica: 5 500 000 Europe: 3 745 000 Australia: 2 968 000 Area of Khorvaire (not including Aerenal): 9 570 000 square miles, give or take 100 000. That makes Khorvaire, the second smallest continent of Eberron (Aerenal being the smallest), just a bit larger than North America, in terms of area. The shape of North America is very different from that of Khorvaire, though, so it is hard to see the how they relate. Khorvaire looks more like Asia, "wider" than "tall". To get an idea of Khorvaire's width, know that the Asian continent, from the western tip of Turkey to the eastern tip of Siberia (Russia) is about 5300 miles. Khorvaire is about 5000 miles wide. Aerenal, the elven homeland, would be about half as big as Australia (I have not estimated its area as precisely as Korvaire's area, though). That makes Khorvaire a VERY BIG place for its small population (15.6 millions). To get an idea of the population density, at 1.6 per square mile, it would be about a sixth of Canada's (9.1/sq. mi.). You may thus speculate that only an extremely small portion of the continent is actually settled (something as small as 2% or less of its area), probably those areas near major resource spots, fertile lands and navigatable waterways. The rest is still wild, untouched land, even in the more populated five nations. That's enough space to fill for a DM, I would think. Happy exploring...
