| Kaiberon12-29-04, 04:49 PM | ok here's my plot idea, if anyone would like to whip up some challenging encounters and throw them on here i'd be glad, and anybody else itching to yoink the idea, which is easily modified by turning the "gestalt items" into luck stones (that will grow from +1 to +5 items over time and scaling down encounters thus making it a "normal" campaign is free to do so. i've annotated where i need battles as follows <<...>>, some i've got myself- This whole thing is a prequal to the Dragon PC game i ran for some friends which went over pretty well. players make a 5th level PC and a 1st level PC, both different classes. We start with the fifth's: During the great war which sealed off Xor'iat a great evil was in the process of worming iots way into Eberron. It was the newly emergent god of the Daelkyr's slave race the illithid. it tore through the portal desperate to escape the land in which its subjects were slaves. When the great work to seal the portal to Xor'at was completed the thing was sundered and fell to the land in a far off place, Khorvaire. Great Dragon astronomers observed its descent and dispatched their vassals to study the thing. The lesser races were given mighty luck stones (Siberys shard items +5 saves, attacks, AC, skill checks and damage) which could channel the dragon's sight (so the dragons could scry) and sped to the land where they quested to the top of the tallest mountains peak. (if one of the players wants to be a gatekeeper druid or ranger they meet him here ready and willing to aid, he'll have other gear to beef him up, or i have an NPC) There they find the weakened monstrosity, a god in its infancy struggling to survive, temporarily stripped of nearly all its divine powers. ( a 6 HD Illithid with lower attribute bonuses fewer per day Psi likes and a weaker mental blast.) They'll probably be weak from an ambush with some other aberrations, Elans (XPH) which, in my Eberron, are agents of the Daelkyr. Just 2 of them, a Psion and SoulKnife. One of which will survive. The dragons, with their attention centered on this mystery threat and their own strike on the Giants fail to notice that the massive explosion of the the gate being pushed away has set the Ring of Siberys in motion (or perhaps the great dragon in its impartiality moves of its own will?) and just as the killing blow is struck on the illithid god the ring brushes across the mountain top and all are swept together. Then a Daelkyr makes its appearance and polymorphs the dying godess into a tree (the weird temperament of the daelkyr seems to support such a thing), the party is swept into the mass of chaos, then it leaves. Over time the goddess begins to manifest divine power, drawing strength from Siberys ring and her bark begins to crystallize, a long time passes and she bears fruit expunging the dragons shards which now contain the souls of the heroes she died to so long ago. Later the tree will be chopped down to make a horrifying weapon called The Godspear which can surpress the consciousness of a continent (reducing the intelligence of everything to 1 or 2) its what the dragons use in their decisive strike on the giants (originally weak the god had an instaneous effect) and what the dark elves later use in their revenge on dragons (now she has a continuous effect, which hits everything as it enter the area) Flash forward to the war of the mark. the continent of Khorvaire rages and a few young heroes (or villiains) are sent to war, <<hard extended field battle combat for level 1s>> after their victory they are sent on to another battle (enough days away to heal up) there they encounter a volatile man, pale skinned and redhaired he fights with the mind magics of the Kalashtar, cutting a swath through any side that pays him enough. He wears a tiny jewel upon his brow. When he comes upon the characters he is filled with joy and introduces himself as a friend, switching sides mid combat even. He promises the PCs great wealth if they follow him. Eventually <<here i need a module i guess to take the PCs from wherever they are after those 2 battles to level 3-4>> he leads them to the mountain top where ilsensine stood as a tree. As they travel he reveals this sight was a holy place to his clan and while here he discovered the jewel on he wears on his forehead and was filled with power, he's pretty vague about it though. <<and here some lvl 3-4 battles which involve mountain creatures to get them to level 5>> An odd sense of familiarity fills them as they arrive, Now an obsidian stump it still bears a few branches and from those hang a number of jewels. The PCs are drawn to one each and when they take them Gestalt occurs, as they discover they are partial reincarnations of the half souls within. Here everybody performs character surgery to make their characters uber, they have a full compliment of memories from either PC and it's upto the player to decide which personality takes over (I'm also intituting a physical gestalt which has them take the best attribute from each character so a sissy mage might get an 18 strength as his fighter past life comes in). Now that they remember the Elan, if they ask the red haired assassin why he'd help them as he has he tells them he and his partner had made a mistake and he needs their aid in fulfilling his mission. He must travel to where the dragons have hidden the godspear and destroy it, and the god within but he needs the aid of the heroes who defeated him and his partner so long ago *in that other life*. in reality this is the same Elan they fought so many years ago, he is astonishingly powerful by Eberron standards (level 16) but grossly understating his abilities. he leaves finding a way to get to the spear, hidden on another plane only accessible by a gate hidden in a mighty undersea fortress, to the party. <<here i'll need a few "look how big your paper wangs got!! battles to let them have fun then a few tough battles to get back into the swing of the game>> they will eventually find Gnomes that make submercibles, which will take them under sea and finally to the fortress <<(which might be an even more lethal Temple of Elemental Evil)>> once they've conquered it they can take the portal to Faerun where they will find that the spear was never in Faerun, they were lured there by the Elan, he has plotted for Eons on how he would take his revenge, but he was never able to have his foes resurrected, something had kept their souls from the prayers of at least one priest of every god on Eberron and then some. He reveals he discovered the nature of the jewels and what it must mean. he now tries to kill them in the hopes of insuring their souls never see a paradise or even a hell by having them die on another plane. cue climactic battle between now 18th level NPC and 12-15th lvl gestalts . |
