I'm creating this thread for all of you to post your favorite moments or
things from your Eberron goblin-centric campaigns, whether you've been
running or playing them.

What were (or are) the highlights of the goblin experience of
Darguun/Khorvaire as you've played or created them?

In terms of both fluff and crunch in the setting, what has worked the
best for you (and/or what hasn't worked so well)? What would you change?

When I get a little more time I'll post some of the campaign
architecture I've been preparing for my own delve into Eberron's great
goblinhood past and present. In the meantime I'm interested to see what
other people have done and what has been the most successful and
satisfying for your goblinoid campaigns.

This was the set of "clippings," if you will, with which I accompanied my call for players--it sets up the opening event of my campaign, a sort of goblin olympics...

“Khraal Maar Rhelaarekaar Darguun!”
—Darguun needs its heroes—

“It’s called Draguul’dulken, and, frankly, I’m surprised none of the Five Nations has anything like it. Every six years since Darguun was founded (and that’s almost thirty years ago now) the Lhesh Haruuc has called together his country’s best and brightest – if such a term really applies – for a giant national competition. The time for the great goblin gathering has rolled around again, and this time your sports team at the Chronicle is going to be on the spot. But let me tell you, this is no spectator event for the weak of stomach. It’s part carnival and part free-for-all slaughterfest. Interestingly enough, however, considering all of the disparate groups it brings together under the banner of glorious goblinhood past and present, it’s also partly a nation building exercise for the Lhesh Haruuc. And boy does he need it these days. The Lord of the Scarlet Blade isn’t getting any younger, nor have the drought and food shortages of the past few years done any favors for his always tenuous grip on the reigns of the ever-fragmented Darguun. So if Darguun’s neighbors care about their future relations with this unstable fledgling state, they care about what happens at these games...”
–Gnar Stamwick, Sports Commentator for the Korranberg Chronicle

“Evil? Of course the residents of Darguun are evil in the eyes of the rest of the population of Khorvaire. Have you ever been a goblinoid outside the borders of present day Darguun, much less inside them? These peoples have a long history; they weren’t just dropped from Siberys the way they are today. And now for the first time in millennia they have a nation of their own again, a nation which the rest of Khorvaire wouldn’t mind seeing blotted from memory...”
–Vincent Olivader, Brelish Social Scientist at Sharn’s New Institute

“Darguun. The very idea.”
–Jacques ir’Lez, Director of Dhakaani Studies at Morgrave University

“Greedy, self-centered, watchin’ out for their own skins, relentless drive to get ahead and stab the other guy in the back, blatant disregard for the sanctity of life...****, we are talking about humans, right? Tell me, who just fought a ruddin’ hundred years war across the whole face of this ‘ere continent? Them...and how’s a goblin to compete with that, I ask. If we’re to stand a chance at...if we’re gonna make it with not one, but five ruddy nations ready to slit our throats pointy ear to – What? Right, four nations, who could forget they found some magic to swallow one nation whole...never see a goblin pull that trick off, nor want to – terg it, that’s why I told the Lhesh way back when that we needed the Draguul’dulken in the first place. ****, it’s not my fault if that whole lot of new bloods who came out from last games is missing or dead...or worse. Maybe goblins just weren’t meant to be adventurers...”
–Wint Kraalsmead, former counselor to the Lhesh Haruuc

“Some deep thing is stirring. I dreamt it just now. I feel it in my old woman’s bowels. A slow dark patient thing. Ancient creeping darkness. Fetch me that extra blanket...”
–Da’gatha, an old bugbear priestess

I'm running a campaign in Karrnath that deals with the goblinoid heritage. The city, Briport placed on the north coast of Karrnath by the exit of the Iceflow River, is built on the ruins of a goblinoid city.

The first thing the party discovered was goblin-sized tunnels below the streets were a small clan of black-skinned goblins were excavating. I wish I had the DMG II rules for constricted tunnels then, but we muddled through.

Later they discovered an underground stronghold of a hobgoblin warlord. I used the suggestions of Dhakaani armor and weapons (I found this in the back of one of the books...maybe the Explorer's Handbook?). This was the first time I used armor spikes and locked gauntlets...and of course serrated swords and chain weapons. I even used a spiked chain trap on one of the doors.

They discovered a group of hobgoblins fighting off zombies by the sealed entrance of the stronghold. The hobgoblins all had a ring of tatoos around their heads marking them as warriors. And they were led by a female bard (duur'kala?).

In an underground tomb they fought undead hobgoblin guardians. Thirteen in all, each stood in front of pillar decorated with an astrological animal. I'm not sure if I read that their calendar included 13 months, but I thought it might be interesting. I actually cheesed on the animal constellations since I was rushed. I think I may have come up with a list since then, but if anyone has ideas that could be helpful.

Going with the oriental class suggestions, the main guardian wielded a matched pair of bastard sword (similar to the one in the ECS in the Darguun section) and short sword, both byeshk.

I have some more ideas with the goblins of the area, but I'm not sure if my players are reading this. I'll post an update when we get there. Although they have been plagued by goblin ninjas.

I haven't had a chance to work in bugbears yet and I'm not sure if I will. I'd be interested to hear others have done with them.

My main frustration is having to hold back a lot of information since the party doesn't have knowledge(history) or knowledge(geography). Anybody have similar problems?
