| dxyn02-06-07, 04:56 PM | Okay, I need some idea help out there. I am basing a Sharn adventure on a loose interprestation of Gone in 60 Seconds. The bad guys hold captive a family member of one of the PCs who was hired to steal 50 items and failed. Now the PCs must take up the job and deliver the 50 items within 72 hours or the relative gets whacked. So what I need are ideas for 50 hard to find to extremely rare items that can be found in Sharn. These items cannot be purchased, but must be acquired through any means necessary. Some I have been kicking around. A Valenar Warhorse A Cask of 200 year old Mror brandy Half a dozen freshly severed ogre heads A Case of Aundarian Royal Reserve red wine (only given to the royal family) A Giant sized gold ring ... This is where I begin to lose ideas. I want to have several that could be included in a heist of the Morgrave university Museum. Some others that take advanatge of the skills of all of the party (Ranger, Sorcerer, Archivist, Bard/Fighter, Rogue, and Fighter). Any help would be appreciated. d |

From a pure logistical standpoint, I probably wouldn't have more then six different places, maybe with a final extra hard one. |
| doublereedkurt02-06-07, 05:14 PM | Also, you may want to think about things from the NPCs point of view. In the movie, everything they were stealing were cars, which made it easier to sell. If you were a criminal trying to convert goods to cash, finding buyers for unique objects would be much harder. So, maybe only 5 or 6 instead of 50? Here are a couple more ideas: Items related to the manifest zone. Perhaps the soul of an angelic being is trapped in a statue or jewel. Items related to Xendrik. This can be just about anything -- some adventuring party got something extremely valuable out of Xendrik and has been bragging about it a bit too much and attracted the wrong kind of attention. Maybe a schema for some new kind of magic device, which they are currently negotiating to sell to House Cannith. |
| dxyn02-06-07, 06:31 PM | In this case, as in the movie, the bad guy (probably a underboss of the Tyrants) has a buyer(s) already lined up. As for the fact that I have too many items, the game can span several sessions though I may reduce them quite a bit. The movie only really showed about half of the cars that were taken. Any more specific item ideas? d |
| RogueElement02-06-07, 07:42 PM | Soylent Green is made from people! The bad guys are particularly evil and need 50 living people to be kidnapped and brought to them for some Vile purpose. Maybe they need a snack or maybe they need to sacrifice the people for the xp to create an evil magic item. Are the characters willing to trade their souls (by changing their alignment to Evil) for the lives of their loved ones? |
| Cabral02-06-07, 09:32 PM | I like Rogue's idea but make it more grey: The Blood of Vol wants 50 people (with people you can knock it down in number. 5 or 6 would be a challenge.) but they assure the PCs that the people are evil and are members of another cult (or worshippers of the dark six). The bad guys may simply be hired by the blood of vol. The victims will be used in some ritual. However, the blood of Vol needs evil people otherwise the PCs would've been offered up as chow. additional twists: 3 other groups in similar straights are given similar tasks. The Blood of Vol actually needs one good soul and whomever comes in last loses their loved one to the ritual. As above, but there are spectators as soon as the clock starts, so does the bidding on who will be the offering. For DM's of easily scared posters, this should not be used in home games ... without all the additional options and vampiric werewolves. :evillaugh |
| dxyn02-07-07, 12:07 AM | Interesting ideas, but I really want this to be focused on the theft of goods. Using something like capturing people would probably just lead my party to attack the bad guys outright. Instead, I want them to think that it is safer to gather the items needed rather than face down a gang of cutthroats until later when they have to do so anyway. At the end, tey will have failed to deliver the last item and have to take on the leader anyway. Any more ideas along the lines I started with above? d |
