| Luin01-22-05, 02:27 PM | This idea/hypothetical situation struck me earlier in the week: The Last War, you have thousands of soldiers on the battlefield fighting, dieing... losing limbs... And then entire fields of fallen enemies... including warforged. I was curious if it would be unbalancing / impossible / silly to have rules written for replacing lost limb(s) with warforged components (particularly, an arm) and if anyone COULD write rules for this. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast01-22-05, 03:34 PM | Rules do exist for this sort of thing in the Monster Manual 2 under 'Half-Golem.' Its an unfortunately named template, but it is basically rules for grafting construct limbs onto creatures. Its not a flawless process however, as it tends to send the bearer of the new limb into insanity. There doesnt seem to be any widespread use of this, but in the Death at Whiteheart short storya Cannith artificer has been experimenting by grafting warforged limbs to kobolds, ultimately sending the kobolds crazy. |
| Edymnion01-22-05, 03:38 PM | There are already rules and items for this sort of thing. Half-Golems: Rather poor choice, this one. Ignore it. Arm of Nyr: From Defenders of the Faith, its a good aligned magical arm made of mithril, and is exactly what you're looking for. Strip it of all of it's special powers (strength and dex boosting, AC boosting, etc), and they run about a thousand gold. Grafts: You already used the word graft, so I assume you have access to the Fiend Folio and all of it's undead/demonic/whatever grafts. Just follow the examples from there and make Warforged grafts. |
| WilliamPall01-22-05, 06:47 PM | Though, one thing you'd want to keep in mind is that some warforged may not like you walking around with their Forgemate's arm. "Hey! That's Billy's Arm! I recognize that craftwork anywhere!" |
| Luin01-22-05, 08:12 PM | Already have the rules written for the other 'forged disliking it. Other ideas are for a leg and a part of face/eye. Eye would add to intimidate I think... And then the use of the word "graft" was merely me having a vocabularly... but the reference to the Fiend Folio was appreciated. |
| The Designated Rogue01-31-05, 02:51 PM | I'd love to refresh this thread. I've been thinking of having my Cleric Of The Silver Flame lose an arm and get a new metal one for purposes of story and roleplay. That mythril arm sounds...very interesting. |

That mythril arm sounds...very interesting.Anyone in the RPOL game with DM Darkchylde, don't read this. You'll find out about it here extremely soon anyway, but we want you to be surprised. Anyway, for the people not in that game: I have an artificer character that will be losing an arm in a PbP game here at the end of the current combat we're in. It'll be great to drive home the fact that there is no safety net in Eberron, no one capable of casting Regenerate or Raise Dead. There will be a nice little quest into Xen'Drik to hunt down a schema that details how to build a magical arm so she can build her own replacement arm. Will have to quest to find the schema, then likely into the Demon Wastes to find a nice big Khyber shard to bind the arm to her body with, and some smaller quests to get enough small Eberron shards, Mithril, and a bit of Adamantine to actually build the arm itself out of. We worked out a price for the basic model of the arm at 1,000 gp, meaning it won't take long to whip up. I'll have the option to upgrade the arm for things like AC bonuses, strength and dex bonuses when using the arm, build in some tools, perhaps a weapon (like a punching dagger that springs out the back of the hand). My artificer also happens to be a razorclaw shifter, which means I'm losing out on a claw attack, so we're thinking of letting her enchant some basic attack enhancements into it. I'm picturing the Shocking enhancement (I still have a great visual in my head from Armitage III where she grabs the badguy around the neck and electrocutes him). I'm also looking into putting a Wand Sheath in the arm. Shoot Scorching Rays from her hand, or anything else I can think of. Something I just thought of, instead of a punching dagger built into the arm, I could also go for some kind of a shuriken launcher. It should all prove to be a lot of fun :) |
| Raede01-31-05, 05:39 PM | ROFL, I want an arm that shoots rapid-fire shurikens :D |
| Aethamyr01-31-05, 06:37 PM | The only problem i see with these ideas is that with the creation forges closed, the only way to get a warforged arm is by killing, maiming, or defiling the corpse of said warforged. Any other warforged may not be to happy to see a "fleshie" sporting one of these, especially not a follower of the Lord of Blades... |
| Nived02-01-05, 11:19 AM | This brings up an interesting flip side. Would it at all be possible for a warforged to graft an organic arm onto himself. Think of it like a quasi palemaster thing, only instead of a mortal wanting to be undead it'd be a living construct trying to become well... alive. What would a human think of a warforged with a human arm... I can't think it'd go over too kindly. |
