Why hasn't Elaydren given the baron the two schemas and the creation pattern yet? He's in Sharn isn't he? And even with no down time, the time elapsed through whispers of the vampire's blade should have given enought ime for Elaydren to carry the extremely valuable stuff over to her master. She gets raided by the emerald claw and it all gets stolen... I find this unlikely as I don't see her still having the stuff. Has anyone played things differently?

I'm just finishing the forgotten forge with my players so I'm not gonna be there for quite a while, but you know.. I like to be prepared and to know where the game will eventually lead.

I tend to think that she wants the credit all to herself. If she gives them over to Merrix then he'll send all of his goons after them directly. She believes she can gain much more power by delivering him the complete Schema.

hmm, possibly. But knowing that she's being hounded by the order of the emerald claw, it wasn't such a clever idea on her part. Merrix might see this as a weakness on her part.

Would Merrix be aware of this or would he just trust her completely and not check up on her?

To show how deep the conspiracy goes, I'm sure Merrix knows but I'm also sure that he's probably keeping the circle small of people who know about it. If a lot of people were involved in the Xulo pattern's recovery then more likely it'll get back to Jorlanna or Zorlan (or their spies in Merrix's group)

So she might even be thinking of taking it to one of her competitors, unaware Merrix already knows about her achievement.

nice. I hadn't thought of Elaydren possibly being that way. ;)

Read the sidebar "What Happened at Townhouse 19" on p.5. It explains why Merrix chose to give the schemas back to Elaydren for safe keeping.

Doesn't it seem as time that reading is perceived as being overated? That side bar launched my campaign a spiraling. The Elaydren/Merrix relationship is an interesting one to say the least.

Currently, my characters have been tasked to infiltrate Merrix's Creation Forge since he hasn't been heard from in some time.

fun fun fun

Meh, I didn't find the explanation that satisfying.

Spoiler for players!!

It all depends on how your players complete the shadows of the last war.
It ends with an encounter with the emerald claw, and they either all die horribly or they steal a schema. And if your players pick up the detail about the emerald claw having the 3rd part of the schema. Now Merrix most likely knows this. So he decides to give all his info to Lady E. and tipping of Garrow. Knowing lady E will do everything in her power to get it back. Besides all he wants to do is to observe and talk with the schema.
Hope i helped.

The players in my group (of which I am one) thought it was very suspicious that Elaydren hadn't done anything to secure the schemas, and was instead horsing around in the wilds of Xen'drik around with them. Especially given her history of losing the schemas every time the PC's are off camera.

Our group had guessed that the creation pattern was sentient, and wanted to be re-assembled.

A bit of a stretch, and I understand not 'module as written' but it explains a lot.
