Hi there i have just begone the adventure and my group has just reached xen drik loseing one who was swallowed by the shark (i shouldnt laugh but it was funny the shark crit 2 gnomes and swallowed in preivious rounds then a pc the same way). Any i was wondering how to handle the ending of the adventure how can the pc's take the schema back to house cannith when it keeps casting spells on them, alternativly if they let the old war forged live how would he react to the situation in khorvaire, would he join the lord of blades? could the pattern be put in a pc warforged?
thanks for any replies

Well, a bright party would figure out that the parts are less than the whole, so when the old Titan goes down, break up the pattern parts, and it should be Mostly Harmless. Oh, you can call for random Will saves, just to keep everyone nervous.
As for the Titan escaping, it stands to reason that it would stay in Xen'drik for a while. Why serve some piddly little warforged in the Mournland when Xulo can rule Xen'drik, right?

Well, my PC's destroyed the WF and took the pattern and the schemas back to House Cannith. I had the one carrying it make a few saving throws, but he made them all.

So now, Xulo will make a come back later in my campaign. Maybe something that involves the LoB at the same time...mmmm

The best option with Xulo coming back to Khorvaire would be him trying to rally the warforged, and the LoB hiring the PCs to take him down "for the good of Khorvaire".

[Cut to a back room of an inn reasonably close to the mournland.]

Khopesh: My Lord, the [nasty tone]common races[/nasty tone] are here to see you.

LoBster: Ah! Excellent, send the fleshies in.

[The Party comes in, wary, but ever mindful of Khopesh, Gladius, Kampilan, and Claymore standing guard.]

LoBster: Before you begin, I must ask you to forgive me for our earlier entanglements... they were just business... Now that you have freed yourself of your obligations to Merrix d'Cannith, I have no ill will [lie] remaining. I just have some... information that I thought you would like to know.

LoBster: A certain... prototype... of our kind... you may have met him before... Xulo, I think he calls himself... has been gathering an army on Xen'drik, and plans to invade. Now, I know your people hold no love for the Goblins of Darguun, but I thought it would be good idea to warn someone who could grasp the implications of a warforged and mercenary army on the Brelanders' doorstep.

Cool thanks people. do u think it would be a bad idea to make xulo neutral or even good, possibly a competiter for the lord of blade 'throne' mabe he could send the pc's on quests round xen'drik to uncover texts to help rejuvinate the mournlands (after having visited khorvaire).

The bodak was even worse and I cheated with him. According to the rules the bodak's gaze effect is automatic and therefore the players have to make a save every round they look at it. Knowing this would definitely kill many characters I 'adjusted' it and had it happen only the first round. Luckily it caught only three of the pc's. Interestingly, the one pc who died was the same one who got swallowed by the shark, though he lived from that one.

Thankyou for bringing up the question and everyone for answering it.

I have decided to make the Creation Schema a long campaign taking the PCs from 1st level to about 14th. Thus far I am only up to about 7th level. While doing this this- I have created a situation where too many factions want the prize.

The PCs started with Merrix until they were betrayed. Now they work for Cannith North. Also involved is the Lord of Blades and the Aurum. The Emerald Claw has sent two lts to get it. One is stealthy and the other takes it to your face. Now through in a dragon in disguise that helps/hinders all sides so as to fit what he thinks the end result should be and the recent introduction of the Dark Lanterns and the Trust and I have quite the free for all going.

I have been trying to think about how and whom should have the assembled schema and for what purpose but there are too many x-factors in my plot.

I'll keep an eye (or two) here to see what else people are doing.

PS: I never knew world domination would be so difficult!

I've run the first two campaigns, own the third, and was also really looking forward to more. Oh well.

@ Megamania:

Set out your games in the same fashion as the modules have been done. Develop your story arcs to take them through a few levels of experience and as you go from one arc to the next you will decide which factions are now vying for the shcemas. This way you can have all of them involved or just one of them. You may decide to start out with a sharp but extremely heated contest between them to gain control of the schema. The PCs could be used by any of the factions, or none of them. They may simply be off on another adventure and become entangled in the whole mess of things. Once things have played out some you can determine losses on each of your vying factions and how they plan to proceed in gaining the schema.
It may work out so that only two factions were strong enough, or clever enough to maintain their numbers in the appropriate areas in order to continue searching for the schemas without having to worry about the other factions ambushing them.
In such a situation you could have one of the weakened groups hire out the PCs to do the leg work for them.

For example when my group approached the camp at Rose Quarry the Paladin sent forth a loud "Hail!" to the Emerald Claw soldiers gathered about. I asked him if he was seriously hailing the camp in such a manner ( As we had just been joking about doing such a thing ), and he said he was serious. Cutting to the chase they were killed to a man; valiant fighting can only do so much ;)
Then I decided that I was not going to run the adventure again. Instead I told them to make new characters and I would figure out a way to work them back into the scheme of things.
So I get two dwarves in the Mrorholds...Hmmm... ( Only two PCs, with two NPC party members ).
So now I had to get them back to the right level to take on the next module, and so get them used to their new characters, and also return them to searching for the schemas.
I like the Blood of Vol, Orcs, the Emerald Claw, and Cavalry. So I had agents of the Emerald Claw, under orders from Blood of Vol followers ( Who were seeking the schemas ), out hiring mercenaries ( One a group of Cavalry ) to aid an orc band in making an invasion on a Dwarven Mror city. The schemas from the ill-fated module were being kept in a safe house inside this dwarven city. The party members would have to figure out why they were running across all these mercenary parties, who was hiring them ( As the orcs were handing out the gold, but who was actually supplying these orcs with all this gold, eh? ), determine why the EC is providing the orcs with money to hire mercs, seperate their fellow Dwarf from the schemas, and eventually fend off the army intent on invading the small Mror city.
The EC would have a group of their own soldiers be hired on by the orcs. By doing so they could then enter the city along with the rest of the raiders and make their way to the safe house. Here they could get the schemas and be on their way without anyone knowing where they went. Plus if the Dwarf got greedy nobody would think much of his screaming as he gets run through by a longsword :D

My recurring NPC, Orrock the Axe, had been hired by Lady Eladryn to recover it from the Dwarf. He and his merc group had tracked the Dwarf back to his safe house, but they couldn't do much in the city as they may be mistaken as Orcs from that clan hated by this particular clan of dwarves ( Sorry, the clan names escape my mind at the moment, but they're the ones in the Mrorhold description area ). So instead Orrock gains the PCs trust, uneasy as that trust may be, and had them recover the schema from the city. Orrock, being a good business man, decided to get his band hired on by the mountain orcs as a merc group. If the dwarven PCs hadn't managed to get the schema back to him before the invasion, he would lead his group directly to the safe house, kill all those within, recover the schemas and make their way back to Sharn and Lady E.

So the PCs gained some experience, saved their home town, and became involved in the plots to recover the schema, and made their way back to Sharn to receive the reward that Orrock had promised Lady E would pay them - Thereby being introduced to her, who told them to check in periodically for more jobs.

It took a long time to work them back into the story, but it was well worth it. From that point forward I would have involved the Blood more heavily into the overall scheme of things, while also introducing another faction into the story. Perhaps even another faction of House Cannith.

Hope this helps you in designing your overall plans. Just remember to spread the love to all the factions you want to involve, and keep it just complex enough that the party members don't figure it out too easily.

To keep the group involved with what else is happening the Korranberg Chronicle has articals every so often that hint at events the PCs would not otherwise know about. They know the piece they couldn't find in the Burning Eyes (don't ask) Dungeon adventure has been hotly contested by Warforged and Demise of the Emerald Claw. This is what brought in the Dark Lanterns.

Later, Cannith North told them that the warforged have the piece but the whereabouts are unknown.

So even though the PCs were not directly involved, they known enough about the missing pieces to keep it in the back of their minds.

Currently they are chasing down Cannith: South whom have hired an adventuring party to retrieve the lost piece. Cannith: North has spies that informed them of this and now the great chase begins. Regardless of who gets there first- there will be conflict and outside parties. Keltis has been trying to kill them (the heck with the Schema!) and nearly did by downing their air ship within Eldeen.

Next is Frostfell where they enter a testing area of warforged. You know- the rejects from before they perfected the process. 1/2 golems and other mutations galore!

As for narrowing the parties involved- Dark Lanterns and the Trust will continue to monitor but not become involved. Demise is still actively searching pieces, Garrow (resurrected) wants revenge but also understands the importance of the artifact, The warforged are limited. Leaving Khorvaire is not easy for them and Lord of Blades may not want his flock to go to Xen drik where they may discover things about their origins he doesn't want disclosed. The Aurum is there but they entered it late and are always playing catchup. The undsead artificer (once a PC) is still there and wants the pieces but is currently busy staying "alive". The dragon...who knows what is on its mind. (PCs are just starting to piece this one together now) and there is even another party waiting for activity in Xen' drik.

I figure by time they reach Xen' drik it will Demise and Garrow, The PCs, the Dragon and the still unrevealed new faction (Cannith Lich whom is continueing to improve warforge creation).

Plenty going on still.

Yeah, that dire shark is going to be nasty when we get around to it... :(

Talk to your DM about looking into the alternate version of the encounter (http://homepage.mac.com/macbrucecordell/B1283663648/C608165187/E1610916623/index.html).

The version in GotEC is actually truncated. The version that Bruce has at his website is the original version of the encounter that was cut due to space issues.

Don't look at it yourself if you're a PC, but have your DM peruse it. It gives the PC's a much more fair chance of survival, but still remains a treacherous encounter.

In my campaign the heroes, destroyed the creation pattern and gave back the 4 schemas and teh creation pattern in pieces. Then they blamed Garrow from breaking it and said they fought impossible odds.
Unfortunately the NPC beleived them since my playeres are maxed out in bluff, so there was no way Lady E could pass tehir bluff roll of 35. They also said that they fought with millions of emerald claw soldiers and the likes, they never mentioned xulo nor anything about the prophecy to her either. They managed to get a raise from the price she offered them. But that is what happens when your Players end up at lvl 8 and 9 by the end of the adventure.
