05-26-07, 02:57 AM one of my players is going to become a Greenstar Adept soon, on of the things he'll have to do is get Greenstar, a metal found in meteors in very rare occasions.
it says you can substitute Greenstar with any other rare metal if greenstar can't be found in the campaign setting.

So, would these special meteors with greenstar in them happen in eberron?
And if so would astrologers know anything about it?

I'd say have it as part of the setting, but make it super-rare so your players don't ask why they never heard of it before or why they can't easily get a Cannith greenstar blade.

Where does it come from? Maybe it comes from an exploded planet, like Kryptonite.
Or maybe it's sent by forces from beyond the light of the sun, against which the twelth warding moon guards.
Or something more nefarious?

explains how it arrives and why its so rare. and gives the players a reason to go to Xen'Drik/Sarlona to hunt down these rarer than rare syberis shards

05-26-07, 10:59 AM i was going to make a Greenstar adept NPC once & decided to use dragonshards in place of greenstar metal.
i was going to require material from all 3 types of shards in place of greenstar for each level, i thought that would make it more interesting to level & fitting
i was also calling them Dragonshard adepts instead of greenstar.

The idea of substituting dragonshards seems within the flavor of the setting. Leaving it as it is would be another option.

Tolkien's galvorn is pitch black. Placing it in Xen'drik could create some interesting encounters. A tribe of drow might be located in the vicinity. A drow "Blackstar Adept" (or whatever) wouldn't look terribly different than his brethren. He'd just look a bit lustrous, as it where. The drow could be an interesting hurdle in the PC's pursuit of the PrC. Will the group use brute force or diplomacy in convincing the drow to grant access to the fallen metal? Might the drow grant access if the PC proves his worth, much as their own mages must do?

I've thought of how I might build an NPC with this PrC in the past, but never made it further than daydreaming. Having a PC actually want to use the material tends to light a fire.;)
