| Charles Phipps08-18-05, 05:02 PM | Hey guys, As I've mentioned before, I've done a "faked" alien invasion in my campaign where a bunch of Beholder corpses (this was before I knew how rare they were supposed to be in Eberron) were used to instill panic from above. Before my Riedra game, I'm going to do a ACTUAL alien invasion of Eberron with spelljamming rules and largely trying to think about how to do it in the context of Eberron without disrupting the setting 'feel.' I'd love to hear about how you'd consider doing it in Eberron and what role alien life might or should not play. |
| Charles Phipps08-18-05, 05:10 PM | My current inspirations are 'War of the Worlds', John Carter of Mars, The Spelljammer boxed set, The Raid on Innsmouth adventure, and Expedition into the Barrier Peaks. I'm still throwing the ideas around presently but I'm thinking of tying it to the "Lost Moon" of Eberron. All of these seem "Steam Punk" enough that they could be inserted into Eberron without problem. My basic plotline I'm kicking around is a group of Xen'drick giants who long ago fled their homeplanet to the Lost Moon but for whatever reason want to return now and reclaim their home planet. To aid them in this are the Illithids, Mind Flayers, Neogi, and Beholders whom for whatever reason are important to their invasion plans. The PCs befriend the Giants (anyone got a good name for these guys for themselves?) and then the Daelkyr worshipping psychos turn on their 'masters' before the PCs have to basically to assemble the forces of the local kingdom to strike back at the force before it settles. Any surviving giants settling back down in the DEEP part of Xen'drick or on the returning Moon. I just love the idea of Abberations=Aliens. |

You could, perhaps, make it so that the Daelkyr have discovered spelljamming as a way to come to Eberron directly from Xoriat instead of having to use portals and the like? |
| Charles Phipps08-18-05, 05:49 PM | Except that in Eberron, Abberations=Ages of the Daelkyr. You could, perhaps, make it so that the Daelkyr have discovered spelljamming as a way to come to Eberron directly from Xoriat instead of having to use portals and the like? Well it's largely an academic difference honestly. Different Dimensions or Different Planets frankly. We know the Daelkyr have destroyed many worlds. The question is whether they mean Valhalla or someplace like Tatooine. |

The Xen'tradi... ************ Perhaps they had to make themselves half-golems in order to survive the rigours of travel... "We are the Forged. Your magical uniqueness will be assimilated." ************ |
| Charles Phipps08-18-05, 06:26 PM | The Xen'tradi... I never thought of that one. ;-) |

Did you think you were making some kind of ironic point? This was actually more about alien usage in general in Eberron. |
| Gishsarath08-19-05, 12:02 PM | I recommend that you look up the "Incursion" articles from the Dragon magazines that was feature a couple of years ago. It had a bunch of suggestions and plot arcs that handled the whole massive invasion of aliens (Githyanki) thing in a really admirable way. Just substitute the Githyanki for some other weird alien menace. Or just keep the Gith, whatever! |

The Githyanki are wonderful "interdimensional invaders" and I've always wondered why they are so often used in this capacity. They don't seem to have anything particularly exceptional in that respect yet there's always loads of "Gith invade etc" threads. |
| Ksaturn08-20-05, 05:18 AM | I like the idea of tying spelljamming to the planes, Syrannia in particular. Why? '...is conterminous you can reach (Syrrania) by flying up to the limit of the sky.' logically this would hold true for alternate worlds... so ppl(or aliens or whatever) from another world(particularly one thats dying... think armaggdon or the Mournlands or even driven out by 'another' invasion, possibly even... The Daelkyr?) launch off into syrannia and find thier way to Ebberon. So they start thier invasion out of desperation... (And, like the Inspired followed the Kalashtar...) As always in the fertile fields of the creative mind possibilities abound. Personally I woundn't do this for my campaign. (I tend to make changes only if they and complete and catastophic, changing to a new setting entirly(house rules aside(but thats crunch not fluff))) (Don't ya just love partheses? I'll admit that was a bit far...) |

Well, they have flying astral "space" ships, psychic powers, and really cool liquid metal swords. How could you not make them aliens? The temptation is too strong! |
