This module is amazing! I just stumbled upon it and it fits perfectly with the direction that my high level Eberron campaign is going. A mad scheme for the main villain to attain godhood, a Lich, world ending events! It couldn’t be better!

So I’m wondering if anyone has thought of converting it to Eberron, what I mean by that is switching out the major players to follow basically the same story.

Vecna = Vol
Iuz = Some other powerful Eberron NPC.
The Citadel Cavitius could be located in the Mournland.
Tovag Baragu could be located in the Demon Wastes.

Does anyone have any other thoughts on this?

And I’ve gotta say, even though it’s AD&D 2e Die Vecna Die is a great module! (It was the last 2e mod published before 3e came out the way I understand it, and it was designed to end things so the world could be changed to 3e, kind of like the other awesome module called The Apocalypse Stone.

Err, doesn't a lot of DVD take place in Sigil? I see the basic storyline as being borrowable, but I think you'd basically have to make all of the actual details and encounters up from scratch.

Sharn...Sigil. It can be adapted. I'm sure even Flamekeep would do, as long as the city you use is a metropolis.

Well, sure, Sharn = Sigil is easy on many levels. But how do you get the factions in there? Doesn't "Die, Vecna, Die" involve another Faction War, basically? I recall flipping through it and seeing something about the city in ruins and the Doomguard waling on everyone, but I've never read the whole module.

Factions = Houses..

Or maybe The Boromar and the Daask or the Tyrants have decided to take it to the streets?

That shouldn't be too hard to pull.

There are no factions or Sigil in DVD. The area you are thinking of is the Prison of Kas on one of the Negative Material Planes, where the Doomguard has a prescence. Sigil is a non-factor that is easily worked around. Kas' prison is just a prison for things from across the planes, not just a vampiric fighter.

Considering the story itself is fine but the Adventure runs rough-shod over PlaneScape and Ravenloft, go for it!

I always liked the story itself but couldn't stomache how it lobotomized the settings. However, nothing in it specifically runs over Eberron (Though you have to justify a large power leap for Vol).

Uh no, part of the awful mockery that is Die Vecna Die takes place in Sigil.

My conversion notes for Die Vecna Die:

So far, my campaign has involved several things that I think this module can help me tie together very nicely.

1. The PCs have developed a strong hatred for the Emerald claw as they are constantly running into them. The Emerald Claw seems to be involved in some plot the PCs have yet to uncover. At the bottom of these plots is Vol, and her plot for Divinity. She will be taking the place of Vecna…
2. There is a boy that the PCs encountered in the very first few adventures of the campaign named Ire’ndren. At the time he was already an 11th level Wizard at only 9 years of age. They managed to rescue him from some slavers, only to give him over to the Silver Flame… Well the Silver Flame did bad things to him as they attempted to cleanse him, but his will and evil taint was too strong and he escaped before he was fully redeemed. Now he is obsessed with getting revenge and attaining godhood. This small boy, with immense power, will be taking the role of Iuz…
3. Sigil will be Sigil… I love Planescape too much to chop that part out, AND my players will appreciate that since Sigil played a very prominent role in my last campaign. I’ll just have to figure out how to weave it in. I figure it’s gotta exist out there somewhere… coexistent with the Eberrons planes of existence. (This is my Eberron afterall)…
4. Tovag Baragu is a strange place, but it will be interesting. I will probably place the first circle of it in the Demon Wastes.
5. I haven’t read the Citadel Cavitius section fully yet, but since it’s in Ravenloft and Ravenloft is pretty close to the Mournland I’ll just place it in the Mournland. (This will be good, because, I’ve always wanted a reason for my players to go to the Mournland but they have yet to do that. I’ll be able to be really cruel to them at this point since they will be quite high level.
6. I need to figure out how to involve the Silver Flame more… and the Dreaming Dark… and the Daughters of Sora Kell….

Hmmmm lots of work still to do for this… it won’t be a full conversion, but it gives me an outline at least.

See, there's this bit you said
"Iuz = Some other powerful Eberron NPC."

BUT THERE ARE NO OTHER FREAKING POWERFUL NPCS IN EBBERON
unless it's one of the players. ;)

DVD summary: PCs follow Iuz to Tovag Baragu, then to into Vecna's domain in Ravenloft. Vecna absorbs Iuz, forces ravenloft to funnel him into Sigil. PCs follow, and the Lady recruits them since they possess minor relics of Vecna. The PCs disrupt Vecna's plan and force him out of Sigil, allowing Iuz to escape in the process.

Enter the Draconimicon (sp? I can never remember), and a Dragon Ascendant. Or quite possibly just a Hellfire Wyrm, which is from the Fiend Folio, I think. Always remember: When in dire need of a terribly powerful magical NPC, remember that there are the dragons, and there are bound to be some devoted to Khyber... Thus the corrupt state, and the evil intentions, and the willingness to boost an evil lich into power beyond their wildest dreams.

Yeah, I know. It can be a bit frustrating at times when you are trying to take a game into the Epic levels too…

Aside from the advice to advance NPCs to provide suitable opponents for the PCs? Or discussion of the Daelkyr and the Lords of Dust? It really isn't that hard to accommodate any level of opponent.

Iuz can always be a Lord of Dust, or another creature from Khyber. Making it one of the players through a campagin does seem hilarious.

It isn't hard to accomidate Epic Level characters in Eberron, even though they are powerful they cannot be everywhere at once. Nations will still act independitently of them, and life will go on for everyone. Other villians will rise up where others failed, and perhaps numerous enough to give the PCs a chance to think about how to manage the power no one else in the world has.

Dragons could definitely step in and stop the PCs, an entire flight of them rising up to stop thier progress at key points interjecting with the prophecy.

And just because they are epic level doesn't mean everyone int eh world will love them even if they are strongly working to make things better, because there arefactions like the dreaming dark and the dragon marked houses, and others that have thier own agenda to full.

For DVD there are plenty of planar mosnters on the orbiting planes to throw at the pcs in limitless amounts.

Don't forget Eberron's Masters of Magic (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050725a).

Good alternatives all I think, from what I remember of Iuz.

Maybe not demigod powerful, but a good start and if you want more powerful you could always use a Lord of Dust.

The big difference between Vecna and Iuz is that Vecna is an ancient evil, full of dark power and subtlety, whereas Iuz is a very powerful but, ultimately, young evil (on a cosmic scale), the kind of evil that's more about force than trickery.

Hmm... weird demagogue and self-proclaimed demigod living in a big ol' wasteland with a bunch of weirdos? Hmm, the Lord of the Blades could almost be Iuz, in some ways. If you already have a campaign where he features prominently.

Or you could change it so that Vol is cast in the role of Iuz and Vecna's part is played by something more ancient and more powerful... one of the Rajahs or, perhaps, the Devourer of Dreams.

First question is, Who is Vecna?

Remember, he's an ascended human god, formerly a wizard of the Suel. 'Just' a demi-god. What would he be in his Eberron equivalent?

One of the old Giant Sorcerors of Xen'drik, perhaps? An insane Elf-Wizard from that necromantic society of xen'drik?

what would Iuz be? You just need a creature of Demi-god status, too...there's a few of those in Eberron, you just have to pick one that's thematically the best.

power
false godhood
brutality
being sired by a greater evil

Anyone else with a better memory of Greyhawk have some other ones?
