| Wizardman08-31-04, 05:24 AM | If you could help me out, I'd appreciate it. I can see how one can replace the Church of Wee Jas with that of Vol, and that of St. Cuthbert with that of the Silver Flame, and Cauldron belongs in Xen'drik- say, as a colony of one of the nations- but that's about it. Has anybody tried anything else, say with the Planes? |
| ChaosBug08-31-04, 08:28 AM | yeah i'm converting the adventures, but I'm basing them under and around sharn and not using the city provided in the modules. |
| Pravus08-31-04, 01:28 PM | Well I did a different take. I placed Cauldron in the Howling Peaks (between Breland and Zilargo) close to the South West tip. I also created a boarder dispute that allowed Cauldron to be a City State under it's own authority (in neither nation). I replaced Wee Jas with the Soverign Host, just to make the actions of the Church leaders that more sinister. I changed, as you are think too, Cuthbert to Silver Flame. I made a significant change to Pelor though, instead of a small temple/shrine I changed it to a knights hostel dedicated to Dol Arrah. I had started the campaign before Eberron was released and my players wanted the conversion. Only one wanted to keep his original character (a human wizard). So the story line has them just after the news that Sacrem is dead and the wands are missing (at the end of the first part of Flood Season). The wizard is in Ryker's Asylum for the Mad, that I located about a days travel north of cauldron. I worked with the player to work some details, essentially I am working with that the original party members continued where the players left off but some disaster befell them. The human wizard ended up captured and psychicly tortured to the point his mind broke. The Cagewrights fearing others might know of their operation but are unable to further question their captive placed him in an asylum for safe keeping and possibly to renew their questioning later. The introduction of the new PCs is through an NPC (Shensen) whom they rescue from an unscrupulous circus operators Horatio Quigley (modified an adventure from Dungeon a fair bit, added a dire ape and a much more darker slant to the circus). He was using the half-drow as part of his Xen'drik exhibit in the circus. So with the Flood Festival in full swing, the rains start falling and the mood becoming darker, the party encounters a duo of kobolds pasting posters to walls advertising the circus, they request of help to assist them in extricating themselves from their evil task master Quigley. Through Shensen the party will be introduced to the original member and to Jenya, Acting High Priest of the Silver Flame. Then the story continues with the search for the missing wands... |
| Kryptonian Scion08-31-04, 02:32 PM | I, too, have placed Cauldron in the Howling Peaks - simply making it a Brelish city where the gnomes of Zilargo have had a great deal of impact upon architecture and history (ie Jzadirune). The Malachite Hold is actually a gnomish stronghold, where the Zil once held the aberrations of Khyber at bay. I have taken a slightly different path as far as local churches and organizations go. Jenya and the Church of St. Cuthbert are now simply a temple of the Sovereign Host, while the barely-mentioned shrine of Pelor is a House Jorasco hospice. The sinister Cathedral of Wee Jas is, in my campaign, a respected and honored temple of the Silver Flame - Embryl Aloustinai being, in reality, an evil power-monger who has persuaded key members of her "flock" to accept the evil fiends which are trying to take control of Cauldron. Finally, the Cagewrights' goals are altered in my campaign, as there is no Carceri or "prison plane" that I am aware of. Cauldron is, in fact, the site of a magical prison created by the dragons in Ages past to seal a horde of fiends deep within Khyber - directly below the now-dormant volcano. The sacrifice of the Shackleborn will ultimately release the demon lords, devils, and demodands that have been bound beneath the city for so long. Most likely, the Lords of Dust will be involved in the plans in some way. Obviously there is much more, but the details would take forever to post. I think, however, that Shackled City was relatively easy to convert into an Eberron campaign. |
| Pravus09-01-04, 09:54 AM | I was going to just change the prison plane to Xoriat, but I sort of like Kryptonian Scion idea of Cauldron being a magical prison. I will have to look into that to see how it fits with my overall campaign ideas. The other aspect of the Shackled City series I am going to change is to broaden the locations and not make everything so close to Cauldron. Perhaps even move a few locations to Xen'drik or other locations within Khorvaire. Haven't really work this stuff out yet. |
| Nilhgualcm Leahcim09-01-04, 10:52 AM | One of the things that I am working on now for the Shackled City in Eberron concept was changing the city of Cauldron itself. Taking a tip from the roving fortress, I decided to make Cauldron into a moveable city, powered by an ancient psionic artifact (blah blah). Anyways, I have it moving so far in a day (roughly at the speed of plot) so that The adventurers can do little side adventures to keep up with the level of the adventure if they happen to fall behind. I thought that this sort of fit into the theme of Eberron (distance travel) while keeping the general gist of Cauldron. What with airships, magic, and things of that sort, what better way to add more fun than a flying city? This, of course will result in some significant changes to story line to make it more plausable. Such as the gate to an elemental plane of fire to allow the final confrontation be more plausable. Plus, Cauldron will only travel to certain areas so that it doesn't become an uber-city of travel and trade (a love boat of fantasy gaming?) but, I think that this could be a lot of fun for my party. Next up, changing certain characters to add more of an Eberrron Feel. Such as Patch the Half orc becoming a badly damaged warforged who took severe head trauma during the Last War and has been retired to taking care of the grounds at the Lantern Street Orphanage. ETC> |
| kntshade09-14-04, 05:27 PM | I WAS running shackled city in Eberron but started to think about moving things to Sharn to follow the Forgotten Forge adventure path instead, but now I hear all these good ideas... now I'm torn... |
