Have you statted out Erandis d'Vol?

If so, would you please post those stats here or private message me.

I'd like to run a combat against her, but I figure if others have already statted her, why reinvent the wheel?

Thanks!
Galen

P.S. Please no comments about whether one should stat her or not, just actual stats.

I don't think anyone has of yet. So I'll guess you have to invent the wheel. Post it I am sure you'll get some intelligent advice.

* +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution.
* Medium: As Medium creatures, elves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
* Elf base land speed is 30 feet.
* Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.
* Low-Light Vision: An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
* Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats.
* +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it.
* Automatic Languages: Common and Elven. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan.
* Favored Class: Wizard. A multiclass elf’s wizard class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

Natural armor improves by +4.

A half-dragon has two claw attacks and a bite attack, and the claws are the primary natural weapon. If the base creature can use weapons, the half-dragon retains this ability. A half-dragon fighting without weapons uses a claw when making an attack action. When it has a weapon, it usually uses the weapon instead.

A half-dragon fighting without weapons uses both claws and its bite when making a full attack. If armed with a weapon, it usually uses the weapon as its primary attack and its bite as a natural secondary attack. If it has a hand free, it uses a claw as an additional natural secondary attack.

Half-dragons have bite and claw attacks. If the base creature does not have these attack forms, use the damage values in the table below. Otherwise, use the values below or the base creature’s damage values, whichever are greater (Medium: 1d6 bite, 1d4 claw)

A half-dragon retains all the special attacks of the base creature and gains a breath weapon based on the dragon variety (see table), usable once per day. A half-dragon’s breath weapon deals 6d8 points of damage. A successful Reflex save (DC 10 + ½ half-dragon’s racial HD + half-dragon’s Con modifier) reduces damage by half (Green dragon: 30' cone of acid gas).

A half-dragon has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus darkvision out to 60 feet and low-light vision. A half-dragon has immunity to sleep and paralysis effects, and an additional immunity based on its dragon variety.

Abilities increase from the base creature as follows: Str +8, Con +2, Int +2, Cha +2.

A half-dragon gains skill points as a dragon and has skill points equal to (6 + Int modifier) × (HD + 3). Do not include Hit Dice from class levels in this calculation—the half-dragon gains dragon skill points only for its racial Hit Dice, and gains the normal amount of skill points for its class levels. Treat skills from the base creature’s list as class skills, and other skills as cross-class.

The creature’s type changes to undead. Do not recalculate base attack bonus, saves, or skill points. Size is unchanged. Increase all current and future Hit Dice to d12s.

A lich has a +5 natural armor bonus or the base creature’s natural armor bonus, whichever is higher.

A lich has a touch attack that it can use once per round. If the base creature can use weapons, the lich retains this ability. A creature with natural weapons retains those natural weapons. A lich fighting without weapons uses either its touch attack or its primary natural weapon (if it has any). A lich armed with a weapon uses its touch or a weapon, as it desires.

A lich fighting without weapons uses either its touch attack (see above) or its natural weapons (if it has any). If armed with a weapon, it usually uses the weapon as its primary attack along with a touch as a natural secondary attack, provided it has a way to make that attack (either a free hand or a natural weapon that it can use as a secondary attack).

A lich without natural weapons has a touch attack that uses negative energy to deal 1d8+5 points of damage to living creatures; a Will save (DC 10 + ½ lich’s HD + lich’s Cha modifier) halves the damage. A lich with natural weapons can use its touch attack or its natural weaponry, as it prefers. If it chooses the latter, it deals 1d8+5 points of extra damage on one natural weapon attack.

A lich retains all the base creature’s special attacks and gains those described below. Save DCs are equal to 10 + ½ lich’s HD + lich’s Cha modifier unless otherwise noted.

Fear Aura (Su): Liches are shrouded in a dreadful aura of death and evil. Creatures of less than 5 HD in a 60-foot radius that look at the lich must succeed on a Will save or be affected as though by a fear spell from a sorcerer of the lich’s level. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by the same lich’s aura for 24 hours.

Paralyzing Touch (Su): Any living creature a lich hits with its touch attack must succeed on a Fortitude save or be permanently paralyzed. Remove paralysis or any spell that can remove a curse can free the victim (see the bestow curse spell description). The effect cannot be dispelled. Anyone paralyzed by a lich seems dead, though a DC 20 Spot check or a DC 15 Heal check reveals that the victim is still alive.

SQ: Turn Resistance +4; Damage Reduction: 15/bludgeoning & magic; Immunity: cold, electricity, polymorph (though they can use polymorph effects on themselves), and mind-affecting attacks.

Abilities increase from the base creature as follows: Int +2, Wis +2, Cha +2. Being undead, a lich has no Constitution score.

Liches have a +8 racial bonus on Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, and Spot checks. Otherwise same as the base creature.

So what's the sum total of all that?

16d12 hp; Attributes: Str +8, +2 Dex, Con = 0, Int +4, Wis +2, Cha +4.

Skills: +8 Hide, Move Silently, and Sense Motive; +10 Listen, Search, and Spot (if the racial bonuses from Elf and Lich stack, if not, these are +8 still).

SQ: Too many to list, read above. The natural armor doesn't stack, so +5 natural to AC (an armor of natural armor would stack). The immunities would stack so acid, cold, electricity, sleep, paralysis, polymorph, & mind-effecting attacks, of course, being undead, she'd already be immune to most of these and more, including poison, stunning, disease, and death effects.

* * *

So what's a standard issue L16 Wizard like? BAB: +8/3; BSV F+5, R+5, W+10. 3 Wizard Bonus Feats. 6 generic Feats. Spell slots as follows (4/4/4/4/4/4/3/3/2/-). Her first feat would be used to get the Least Dragonmark of Death. From the ECS alone, I'm not certain if she had the Lesser / Greater before her mother turned her into a lich. In any event, taking the Least Dragonmark feat is mandatory, and the power is now dormant. Spell Focus (Necromancy) and Greater Spell Focus (Necromancy) would not be remiss, as the woman styles herself the "Queen of the Dead." She would likely have a few crafting and metamagic feats as well.

So there you have it - now go either roll stats or use a high point buy, apply the above, and you'd have your own personal Vol, ready to mop the floor with your PCs. It isn't as easy as all that, however, as now you have to make a host of mummies, vampires, and lesser liches to act as her retinue.

Here's a sample 32-point-buy Vol.
Base Scores (Unassigned): 18 16 10 10 10 8;
Elf: Str 10, Dex 18, Con 6, Int 18, Wis 10, Cha 10.
Half-dragon Elf: 18 / 18 / 8 / 20 / 10 / 12
Half-dragon Elf Lich: 18 / 18 / - / 22 / 12 / 14
Half-dragon Elf Lich Wizard 16: 18 / 18 / - / 26 / 12 / 14

That's a 32 Int (+11 mod!!!) with a Headband+6. An incredible 0/3/3/3/2/2/2/2/2/1/1 in bonus spells, for a total of 4/7/7/7/6/6/5/4/3/-.

Talk about a saving throw! Symbol of Death or Horrid Wilting would have a Fortitude saving throw of 31. Her Finger of Death would probably kill someone each round with a saving throw of 30. But hey, at least she doesn't have Wail of the Banshee. :mymy: :surrender

Ah, that, and due to all the offerings at churches dedicated to her, she would likely have gear far beyond standard. A Headband of Intellect+6 goes without saying, as would an Amulet of Natural Armor+5, Bracers of Armor+8, Metamagic Rods - as Hellboy would say, "the woiks."

If you still need help beyond this, post this same request on the Character Optimization board, or I'm sure someone out there is willing to put all these puzzle pieces together. It shouldn't be too hard to put together something acceptable... just don't use Vol lightly, and be careful - she could possibly wipe out an entire party on her own, without help, and she rarely lacks help.

Anyway, my wife is making me get off the computer, but here's something that I threw together really quickly. Mind you it's not much, and I haven't had time to proof (or finish, for that matter) the stats, but it should give you a good primer to follow:

Erandis d’Vol: Female lich elf half-dragon necromancer 16; CR 21; Medium undead (augmented humanoid); HD 16d12; hp 113; Init +3; Spd 30 ft.; AC 18 (+3 Dex, +5 natural), touch 13, flat-footed 15; Base Atk +8; Grp +12; Atk +12 melee (1d8+5 negative energy plus paralysis, touch), or +12 melee (1d4+4, claw); Full Atk +12 melee (1d8+5 negative energy plus paralysis, touch), or +12 melee (1d4+4, 2 claws) and +7 melee (1d6+2, bite); SA breath weapon, damaging touch, fear aura, paralyzing touch, spells; SQ darkvision 60 ft., damage reduction 15 bludgeoning and magic, immunity to acid, cold, electricity, polymorph, mind-affecting effects, low-light vision, +4 turn resistance, undead traits; AL NE; SV Fort +5, Ref +8, Will +13; Str 18, Dex 16, Con -, Int 19, Wis 16, Cha 16.

Skills and Feats: [[114 ranks]] Hide +11 [[0, +3 Dex, +8 racial]], Listen +11 [[0, +3 Wis, +8 racial]], Move Silently +11 [[0, +3 Dex, +8 racial]], Search +12 [[0, +4 Int, +8 racial]], Sense Motive +11 [[0, +3 Wis, +8 racial]], Spot +11 [[0, +3 Wis, +8 racial]]; Scribe Scroll, 6 feats, 3 bonus feats.

Personaly I have been considering giving Vol a demigod template. I mean, she has thousands of followers worshiping her every day, offering blood of virgins to her every day. If not demigod, some special powers that you maybe can pick from the rules of gods.

The question is, why dosn't Vol controll the world in her fist? She's by far the most powerfull NPC in all of Khoirvaire, she could have all the kings and queens under her magical influence. No one could really stop her, seeing as the other more powerfull heroes are not even above 10. I guess maybe she is afraid of the Dragons, and if she attracts too much attention she would risk being anihilated by them? So she's building up her power and influence subtly... to whatever plans she may have.

Bingo. She *may* be the strongest NPC in Khorvaire, but she's not the strongest NPC in the world. For starters the Daelkyr and Lords of Dust would take umbrage at such a claim (=P), but there are probably several Aerenal Elves near her in power, and dragons stronger than her. She's gaining power and biding her time.

And amusingly, given all her templates, becoming a demi-god (Divine Rank 0) doesn't help her as much as you might think, as she's already immune to most of the things a demi-god is immune to. Also amusingly, if her father had been a red, upon acquiring demi-god status she'd be immune to basically every energy type - at least as is she'd still be weak to fire. It basically boils down to +4 morale bonus on all d20 rolls, with her enemies taking -4 morale penalty on all d20 rolls against her, DR 10 / epic, 60' movement, Energy Resistance (Fire) 5, Spell Resistance 32.

Wow. You're a total :censored:. The irony of you accusing anyone of "mental masturbation" after a post like that... it drips off the page.

I missed the fact the Half-Dragon template was in the Monster Manual because it has *never* come up in my games, because I have *never* needed it. I have read the MM in its entirety, but here's the thing - the Monster Manual is all crunch, and more power to you if you felt the need to memorize it. Personally, I try to memorize fluff so I can rattle it off whenever someone asks "So what's the weather like here? What religion do most people worship here? What's the history of this area?" and use crunch to preplan suitable encounters (and suitable *random* encounter tables). I haven't read any of the paperbacks or what-not, but I know the fluff about Ms. Erandis - I haven't run a game where the PCs were high enough to take her on, so again *it hasn't come up.* And obviously there aren't any other Half-dragons running around given how the dragons of Argonessen reacted to Vol.

I mix things up a lot with Wheel of Time, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and d20 Modern, so I'm very sorry I don't have page 146 of my Monster Manual 3.5 memorized - zOMG SEND THE POLICE, HAVE THEM TAKE AWAY MY DM LICENSE!111! I can't tell you from memory the name of every Aberration in the book - if I need Aberrations, I'll thumb through it and bookmark any that look interesting / useful for my players at their current level. If I need a Half-dragon, I'll use it, if I don't, I'm glad I at least now know it's there and not in a splatbook. I've read it enough times now, it's surprising I missed it, but I suppose I glazed over it as something I didn't need / want to use.

I had assumed given all the munchkins talking about it on CO as preferable to Dragon Disciple that it was in Races of the Dragon. I was wrong. There's the POLITE way of saying it, of course, which was done, and then you felt the need to vent your verbal diarrhea. I'm sure these kids today are just ruining the game and the *integrity of these boards* and everything's going to hell in a handbasket.

Just keep it to yourself next time, chief.

* * *

P.S. I think everyone is aware of how incredibly darn strong a Half-dragon Elf Wizard Lich with her own religion would be, as well as how darn hard it would be to bust into her fortress in the Lhazaar Principalities and take her on, let alone FIND her fortress. It would be a major event, possibly the end of a campaign... unless you want to get into epic-level Eberron, which isn't very well supported by WotC yet. That, however, is neither here nor there... we have no way of knowing if the OP has done the appropriate amount of pre-adventuring or if he's aware of how hard it should be to even get to Vol - in the absence of such information, I would assume that would be a "NO DUH!" and assume he knows and just wants help in planning out her stats.

P.P.S. Which we could have both done in the amount of time wasted in writing our respective posts, now.

P.P.P.S. In all your vaunted reading and re-reading of the ECS, you've missed something VERY important about Eberron, Mr. "Super Ninja Squirrel King..." The players are supposed to be pulp heroes, the greatest heroes in the land. If they can't defeat Vol - who can? The Lord of Blades and Erandis d'Vol (High Cardinal Krozen, the Dreaming Dark, Lords of Dust, and the list goes on and on) are meant to be main villains in campaigns, not mere colorful background characters.

Furthermore, my Lord of Blades doesn't have to be the same as your Lord of Blades. His Vol doesn't have to be your Vol. If you prefer your Vol to be a spider in the background that the PCs never fight, so be it. If he wants his to be more proactive and direct, then that's okay too.

* * *

Px4. S. The "bored enough to try this" was more a function of "I personally have no plans to use Vol in any capacity in my game anytime soon, but I'm not doing anything else at the moment so I would be willing to help if I knew where to find the Half-Dragon template." Which, granted, I now do, but I think the scathing resentment I feel might have some role in my current disinterest in doing so.

Actually, the majority of BoV worshippers don't even know Erandis exists. If told "Y'know, your religion is actually run by an elven half-dragon lich with a inevitably impossible goal of rediscovering the thirteenth dragonmark," they'd say "Pssh, whateva!"

BoV followers aren't worshipping Vol, they're worshipping the ideas of House Vol. Erandis herself is more the pope than messiah. A secret, evil pope, but a pope nonetheless.

You know what... S'ok. It happens. No worries. :ayyyy!:

I guess I got the business end of a craptastic day. Lord knows I've started internet flames before and probably for less.

Your enthusiasm is fine, and I'd probably even support your sentiment if I could understand it and it wasn't laced with (possibly unintended) condescension. Raised my hackles quite a bit, you see.

'Sides, I guess you're not entirely wrong. I could possibly stand to reread my MM. But don't think I've not read my DMG and PHB cover to cover... it's just well, sometimes it seems like it's never enough. There's no such thing as reading the book "enough times," or it doesn't feel that way with me. I can't remember every single spell, I can't rattle off the wealth-by-level guidelines, or recite the grappling rules verbatim without refreshing myself... but it is incumbent upon a DM to at least know where everything in the core books is should he need it, and reread as much as is plausible before a session.

For example, the current situation I'm planning requires me to go into the minutia of blah pounds of food, how much volume it takes, how long it takes food to spoil or become contaminated under blah conditions, and it's taking me a good deal of time to find all this info and make heads or tails of it... but at least I knew in general where to look in my books. :plotting:

Then add to her spellbook all the necromantic spells you can imagine, and many that you can't, and a lot of non necromantic spells for good measure.
As a general rule if it is a necromantic spell she know it, if it is not necromantic she could still know it, after all the girl had some thousand years of time to study and practically illimited resources from his cult to study and build any spells or magic item she wanted.

I agree that it makes sense for Vol to have Divine Rank 0, she certainly will in my campaign. And, furthermore, I think Wizard 18 is a bit over-simplified, I'd certainly consider some PrCs (archmage, certainly), and maybe a more necro-themed one, though none come off the top of my head that'd suit her ATM.

Wizard 16. =P I feel reasonably certain I read Wizard 18 *somewhere,* but I can't find it now, and it would seem that even if I did, it was an error, kind of like how the dragon that formed the Gatekeepers was called two different names, two different genders, and two different colors throughout the ECS. :uh-huh:

And actually, she reams people hardcore as a simple Wizard 16. Hell, use an "elite array" 25 point-buy and she'll still kick your PCs ass. It would not be remiss to make her a Necromancer 16 and ditch two other schools of magic. Giving this woman 9th level spells is basically saying you want a total party kill. She gets 4 bonus points from level, 6 from a headband of intellect, 2 from lich, and 2 from half-dragon, and that's a +7 to her DCs right there. Considering most people would use at least a 32 point buy or just roll out some stats for her, assuming we're starting with a 18, and using the spell focus feats, we're looking at a saving throw DC of 10+9+2+11 = 32 for her Wail of the Banshee. Yowza. And I'm sure there's some CO way to raise it higher that I've missed.

Now how bad is that? Well... a 20th level fighter with an average 14 Con would have to roll an 18 to survive. A 20th level Wizard with a generous 14 Con would roll a 20 or die. Of course, magic circle against evil, cloaks of resistance, amulets of health can push that up. Ah, and Deathward.

I'd give Vol her 17th arcane caster level. I mean, it just feels wrong for Mordain the Fleshweaver, locked away (hopefully) in his bizarre demesnes, to have greater arcane power at his disposal than Vol, who's had so many millennia and such a cool backstory. It also feels a bit "Eeh" to let Jaela have 9th level spells but not Vol - in Eberron, I think the villains should always be individually superior to the good guys. ;)

Yeah, she's a TPK waiting to happen, but she's supposed to be. She's Erandis d'Vol!

If anyone here feels like being truly evil, the True Necromancer prestige class from Libris Mortis is particularly cruel, particularly if the Precocious Apprentice feat from Complete Arcane will get you in two levels earlier. It's akin to a Mystic Theurge, but better. Vol will now be slinging 9th level arcane and 9th-8th level divine spells, with incredible mastery over her undead hordes. :D

Hey, I'm just glad when I can find the Experience Rewards table in the Dungeon Master's Guide.

Use an "elite array" 25 point-buy and she'll still kick your PCs ass.

I gave Erandis the elite array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) when I built her stat block above. The reason her stats are so ridiculous is because of all the bonuses she gets from her racial and template modifiers.

I just knocked together a ridiculous Erandis, making her a true necromancer with one level in Shadow Adept. She has 22 character levels in total. I also gave her the sword of Kas just to take it that extra bit too far (family heirloom from Xen-drik days, make the Vol lineage have something to do with the imprisoned vampire lords). To make it accurate I've also made her a dracolich rather than a lich but I haven't got the book it's from so had to make do with the endworld 3.0 conversion.

I have no idea what the stat block is meant to look like so I took the e-tools one it made for me and attempted to make it look slightly less cluttered. For some reason e-tools doesn't like 1st level adjustments to int and doesn't calculate skill point properly, tried to compensate but I've done it really, really quickly so there's bound to be errors.

I wouldn't want characters to fight Ms. Vol 'til very high levels so that's why she's this powerful.

hmm, okay so [ spoiler] isn't the tag to put text into one of the nifty click open boxes. Sorry it's a long ugly post then, can anyone tell me what the tag is so I can edit it?

I've always thought of Erandis as being more like Buddha

To quote Osaka: Oh mai gaa (http://ohmygaa.ytmnd.com/)
That's just brilliant, the perfect way to think of her

To get the nifty box, you write 'sblock' and if you want a neat text other than spoiler you write 'sblock=text'

This is purely a metagaming thing but... don't you think that Erandis is the worst kept secret in all of Eberron. Everyone of my players knows that Erandis d'Vol is the "woman pulling the strings" of the Blood of Vol and that she's a half dragon/elf lich with the mark of death. This with most of the players having only skimmed the ECS at best. It's mentioned all over the place. So...

If I ever use her in my campaign... and there is a good chance as its Emerald Claw heavy... she's not going to be a lich. She's not even going to be undead. She's going to be alive and it a special temporal stasis that allows her to possess and control bodies of specially prepared undead.

Just a different thought. I could still use most everything I've seen in this thread, so thanks.

Ive considered making her a Dread Necro 20, too. It increases her CR by one, she still is a Lich, and has ninth level spells and tons of necromantic goodies.

edit: and Im WAY too slow, thats what I get for making half a reply and then leaving and coming back, lol.
